I like a lot that concept of master and and servant and playing with that.

I found two directions completely different...

The first one is to play with the master and servant idea in Love. When you have a love story between two people, sometimes one of the two become a slave by love....
I tried to find some ideas between a man and a woman (inspired by Hopper work), but nothing interesting came up.
That's where I had the idea to take a very classic theme, used by many great artists, to develop my idea : The love story between Ceasar and Cleopatra. Why not trying to do an homage to those old masters by choosing a theme they used, and try to translate it with digital media ? It will be a huge challenge in the challenge :)

I just watch the making of Lilo and Stitch and an old animation master (don't remember his name) said "in Art if it's not difficult, don't do it. Always choose the difficult way.".

The second idea is to play with the idea of master and servant and not knowing who really rules. I'm in love of chinese culture, and always find interesting the role of the chinese emperor during the chinese revolution. He was THE emperor, but wasn't able to go outside the forbidden city.... So who is the master and the servant in those conditions ???

So know I have to choose between those 2 strong themes, perhaps I'll have time to develop both.... I don't know yet. But it would be great if you tell me what you think :)

the intricate balance of love and amster-servant relationship may eb a good idea.though i feel historically, cleopatra could not be clouted as ever servile... that may eb a bit off..though only a problem if you want to be historically inclined..

will be checkin out your concepts
love,
Vinesh

omengeorge >> That's exactly what's interesting they are 2 emperors, so they don't have usually someone on top of them. I think it's interesting to see how Cleopatra let Ceasar believe that he is the master, to better control him. Men always had the strength, and the power, but women always knew how to use men, to get what they want :)

Ooooo.. the woman overpowers the man while making him think hes the alpha male..damn good Thierry, and will be a real tough job bringing the two conflicting looks onto the image..but heres a thumbs up for a strong image visual..

After having lots of ideas, like the last 2... I was looking to adapt "The Island of Dr Moreau"... But the concept behind was a nit classical.

I was looking for a deeper interpretation of the theme for this contest.

So Here is my idea :

We are all the "slave" of our addictions (love, drugs, etc...), but in the same we are the one and we only who decided the way we want to live : we are the masters of our addictions.

So I decided to draw a girl who look at herself in a mirror, she his the servant of her in the mirror. I still don't know how I will depict the face in the mirror, I made a skull head for know, but I'm not very happy with it.

hey man original your idea, and youre right, the girls and some guys like to see their faces all day, it seems that they like the pain, and one never know what are they thinking, if they are thinking.
good work man:thumbsup:

What a big and terrifying concept
May I add the "Portrait of Dorian Gray" to your inspiration process?

I'm waiting for the next sketches... Good work

Omg wow, I actualy just wrote a poem with this same exact concept called "Skeleton in my reflection"! LOl, what are the chances ! I love the concept thus far, and I am very interesting in how you devlop this idea further, as well as your color choice!

melkao thx for your support

spacenail I didn't think about it in a first time, but that's definetely the idea :)

Coryarte I would be curious to read your poem !!! It will be hard to mae that concept understandable for the viewer, but that's what I enjoy :) When it's difficult I like it

Guga3008 Oooh man that's very very close... Perhaps it's because this is the first idea that pop up when you think of someone looking at a mirror... Even if our ideas are a bit different the composition is too close... And to respect your work, I'll search another way to show it :)

Here is another composition more dynamic.

I think that the concept is more understandable if this is the "real" girl that looks hill, instead of her reflect.

If think the composition is more interesting also... I'm quite happy with the result beacause I didn't use any anatomy reference.

I will reenforce the difference of the 2 characters with the colors, the real one, with more green and gray tones, the reflect, more alive, with reds and pinks.

Looking good. I too like this composition better.
I've got a similar mirror-type theme going on for my entry except it has more to do with the voices in our head. (still trying to decide if I wanna do it).

It's a really nice sketch, well composed. My only reservation is the theme is difficult to reconcile with the competition topic. I know you explained it but I think it will be difficult for anyone looking at the artwork and not reading the explanation to understand how it relates to Master & Servant.

I really love your take on this challenge. Already I have a very emotional reaction to your piece, and I can't wait to see your progress of your latest composition. The sketch is excellent, and your color study could really push your concept further.

Maybe some help couold be provided by the mirror itself : I'm thinking about the slimy mirror in Matrix or the liquid one in Orphee by Jean Cocteau.

Hey Bone!
Intéressant et original ton concept. La nouvelle posture avec cette compo vont bien ensemble. J'espère que le fait qu'elle ne regarde plus son reflet ne gènera pas la compréhension. Bonne chance à toi !

I have to say... this is in my top5 list... I just love the facial expressions...

Only real crit I have is with regards to the structure of anatomy... Her pose is great... but if you study the reflection... her back is too wide... try drawing the reflection on its own with a piece of tracing paper... and if you follow her back curve,, I think you'll find her to be out of shape when you fill in the rest of her body... Give it a try I may be wrong, let me know:D

Other than that... can't wait to see how it looks rendered...

Cheers
Jimmi:thumbsup:
