The sdk gets placed in your plugins folder if you want to use them as plugins. The main purpose is for programmers with C++ (if its the C++ SDK) to have a sorta starter file or example of what they are trying to program. So in the SDK you will find an example of pretty much everything in Xl (sorta) So there is a plugin track, a 3D shader a channel shader a deformer, a primitive etc etc. If you want to create your own channel shaader plugin, you could open the channel shader from the SDK into your coding program (Code warrior for example) and use it as your base oir at least as an example.

Hope that helps.
