Unreal Engine 3 Special Effects Artist

Midway Games Chicago, one of Game Informer Magazine’s Top 10 Developers of 2004, is currently seeking highly talented individuals to exploit the industry-leading Unreal 3 Engine for upcoming games. Applicant should live and breathe making cool Next-Gen FX, and must have experience in creating real-time and/or rendered particle systems and geometry or texture effects within the technical design parameters of a game engine, and the ability to work from concepts and collaborate with the environment team to create visually stunning results leading to AAA titles.

Job Description:

Works closely with effects programmers under the direction of the Lead Special Effects Artist. Creates all aspects of 2D and 3D game effects. This includes particle systems, animating textures, polygonal effects meshes and assets that may be used procedurally by programmers. May contribute to design and/or conceptualization efforts as needed.



Responsibilities:

· Create billboard particle systems for game engine using proprietary tools.

· Create polygonal and texture effects assets to be used by programmers.

· Work closely with programmers to insure visual quality of procedural effects.

· Using 3D software, simulate and render animations of in-game effects as proof-of-concept for current and future hardware.

· Ability to create realistic effects such as fire, smoke and explosions using limited game resources.

· Meet project deadlines / milestones as set by project leads.

· Actively participate in team / department meetings.



Qualifications:

· Ability to model and texture in 3D.

· Experience with billboard particle effects.

· Minimum of two years of applicable industry experience.

· Strong technical aptitude related to 3D modeling tools and game engine technologies.

· Fluent knowledge of Maya and Photoshop.

· Graphic design or fine art skills a plus.

· Experience with programming or scripting languages a plus.

· Experience with motion picture quality rendered effects a plus.

· Receptive to art direction and perform well within a collaborative team environment.



Sample Work Required: (Including descriptions and responsibilities)
· Samples that demonstrate 3D effects work (online samples preferred, or CD, VHS or DVD format) - muzzle flashes, explosions, smoke, fire, etc.
