Unreal Engine 3 Senior Enviornment Material Artist


Midway Games Chicago, one of Game Informer Magazine’s Top 10 Developers of 2004, is currently seeking highly talented individuals to exploit the industry-leading Unreal 3 Engine for an upcoming cinematic action/adventure title. Applicant should live and breathe making cool Next-Gen artwork, and should be skilled in realistic texture creation and material / shader construction on pre-rendered and/or real-time architecture, terrain, props, and be familiar with cutting-edge lighting techniques. Applicants should also have experience in working within the technical parameters of a game engine, the ability to work from concepts and to collaborate with the environment team to create visually stunning results leading to AAA titles.

Job Description:

Works closely with Art Director and environment modelers, under the direction of the Lead Environment Artist. Creates hardware materials and textures for next-gen 3D game environments. May contribute to design and/or conceptualization efforts as needed.



Responsibilities:

- Create materials, textures and lighting for a state-of-the-art next-generation game engine.

- Manage technical aspects of shader construction.

- Ability to work in a variety of artistic styles and game genres, including (but not limited to) the following: realistic, industrial and sci-fi.

- Meet project deadlines / milestones as set by project leads.

- Actively participate in team / department meetings.



Qualifications:

- Ability to create very realistic materials, textures and lighting to a HIGH level of quality.

- Minimum of two years of applicable industry experience.

- Experience with creating high-res texture maps

- Technical proficiency in one or more 3D packages and in Photoshop

- Experience with creating realistic shaders in one or more 3D packages

- Experience with modern 3D hardware shaders a plus

- Experience with generation and use of normal maps a plus

- Modeling experience a plus

- Game development experience a plus

- Receptive to art direction and perform well within a collaborative team environment.



Sample Work Required: (Including descriptions and responsibilities)

- Samples of 3D environmental texture, material and lighting work, (online, samples preferred or CD, VHS, DVD format). Ability to easily demonstrate various materials types is a plus.

- Samples of actual textures with examples of texture application.
