Well, it's an interesting topic; I've been thinking about it the past couple days.

I decided early on that I wanted to show a master serving his servants, instead of the obvious servant serving the master theme. I will try to capture the gratitude of the servants resulting from their masters help.

How to show this is maybe a little tricky, but I've finally come up with some ideas. The master will be a feudal lord from the middle ages, and the servant(s) will be some peasants.

Good luck Alex. Sounds like you're putting an interesting spin on things.

Here's some of my concept ideas. They're not much to look at, but they help me organize my thoughts. I think.

Here's a little elaboration on the river crossing concept. You can see the destroyed bridge in the background. The master and his horse, and two peasants in the foreground.

Same concept as the last one. But better composistion, and the larger figures will allow me to get more facial expression.

I worked a little further into my drawing here, but I realized that I don't like it so much.

I need to put both peasants on the horse, and the master will be in the river leading the horse. The peasants will be concerned but mostly dry, and the master will be determined but also in danger of being carried away by the current.

What a nice king! I like the composition now, and don't know that you putting the other peasant on horse would be an improvement.

a. King is now at center of picture
b. You've got a nice line from top left to lower right
c. I like seeing lead peasant's face -- indecisive, vulnerable & looking to king for guidance
d. King would be looking in lead peasant's horse's arse
The wake created by each character is a great touch. Keep it up!

Ah, both peasants will be on the same horse. My reason is that I want the king to feel more special, and if the peasant is also wading the river it makes the feat less impressive. I hope to really get the feeling of a raging river going; make it look dangerous.

Here we go. This works better for me I think.

Got the king boldy leading his horse through the river. Peasants probly haven't ridden a horse before, they're holding on for dear life. Maybe the lady will have her foot in the horses face or something.

I like the bridge better in this one too I think.
