When using HDRI to render, there are still outstanding bugs as of messiah:Studio 2.2.

Bug 1

Steps
- Import object(s)
- Turn Ground on in Camera for rendering or import in a ground object
- Turn reflectivity/transperancy ON in you object's material, but not for ground plane material
- Attach HDRI map to Environment
- Set Light Source to Environment and GI Type to Monte Carlo/Hybrid
- GI Samples and GI Depth to whatever you want, doesn't matter
- Render with Anti-Alias

Problem
- White noise artifacts

Bug 2
- Import object(s)
- Turn Ground on in Camera for rendering or import in a ground object
- Turn reflectivity OFF in you object's material
- Attach HDRI map to Environment
- Set Light Source to Environment and GI Type to Monte Carlo/Hybrid
- GI Samples and GI Depth to whatever you want, doesn't matter
- Render with Anti-Alias

Problem
- Renders with reflection on a material with NO reflectivity

The attach image shows an example of the problems.

That does look rather nasty. I don't recall there being any problems with the last patch, and our testers reported things were functioning properly.

Can you post an mpj so that we have a clear example of the problems?

Hi Lyle,

Thanks for responding so quickly. Here is the mpj file, but you will have to load the HDRI map separately since I couldn't include it in the project file due to memory size. I was using the stpeters_probe.hdr map. You can get it from http://www.debevec.org/Probes/

Yes, there is definately something going on with HDRI lighting. I know for certain that it was solid & working before, but something new added along the way with the lighting system must have created a conflict.

We'll track down the problem and post a new update as soon as everything's squared away.

Thanx for the assist

Cool Lyle. The problem existed in the previous version 2.1 as well, but I believe you are correct, that it wasn't always a problem, because I do remember testing HDRI and not seeing these issues.

Thanks,

Any progress on this front?

I know that Fori was able to fix the GI problems that Tony reported. Those problems appear to have been the cause of some of the HDRI problems. More testing is required, though.

Aha!

I have fallen victim to this too!

Unfortunately the deadline for my project is just hours away.

I wish I had seen this post sooner. Oh well. I look forward to the next patch.

Thanks Suricate for pointing me to this link.
