this is a wip for the skin tone on the characters. im undecided on the skin being fleshy or slighty blue grey and dead looking.

this is a collage of some sketches of my initial ideas. the character of the average man will probably stay the same but the most of the other elements will change.

i felt that the viewpoint in my initial sketch of the scene was a good idea, but the viewer was placed to far back. i wanted to be able to see the faces of the characters and went in closer. the idea for the image is the same, but some of the other elements in the initial sketch have been lost (homeless people, kids on the bus, trees) and the image is now a lot more focused.

Great draftsmanship and creepy composition. I like the picture, but I don't get how it relates to the Master/Servant topic. The men look like the human equivalent of lemmings (follow the leader). Or are they servants of time?

hi - thanks for the nice comments! yes, the image relates to the master and servant topic on both those counts. the first concept i did covered many master and servant themes, including homelessness and consumerism. i felt the first concept was good in so much as it explored many master and servant relationships but was unfocused because of it, also the fact that the veiwer was so far back it would of been hard to see expresions on faces etc. made me decide to focus upon one part of the image.

so yes, the image is saying that we are all servants of time and that we are so obsessed with it that we ignore everything else - this accident is making everyone late. the driver of the vehicle was rushing, not concentrating, the pedestrian dying, one beady eye still on his watch, the other pedestrians don't care that one of their "own" is dying they'll be late.

and yes they are all lemmings!

there will be other elements in the final image which will alude to other master/servant relationships. the signpost points one way to goldbrick avenue and the other way to halfpenny lane for instance. time is money........

cheers

lee
