View Full Version : Importing .3ds problem/Lithunwrap

I am using 3dsmax 4.2 and have been unwraping my models in Lithunwrap and then exporting them back to max as a .3ds file.

When I do this all the polys on the model become detached from each other. ie: a 1200 poly model has 1200 different center points and axis.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 3ds format is not the best for texturing. When a person unwraps a model or textures it using multiple UV sets or shells and keeps it on a single mesh the 3DS format does not do this. Every UV set or shell will be be split up in the 3DS format into an object.
I am not sure how Lithunwrap works but if it puts tons of UV sets on a single mesh it more than likely will bust it all up when it converts it to the 3ds format.

What you could do is in Max just combine everything. Select all your verts and weld them together with a minor threshold. Its a pain but it should work.
