I and a friend of mine, Andrea, have done a digital crow for a production.
We have used 3d studio max 4 and shag fur.
I've modelled the crow and Andrea has rigged and animated it.

Fantastico. Bel lavoro. E' molto realistico. Sono curioso di vedere l'animazione.

Fantastic. Good work. I'm very interesting to see the animation.

Since this crow was so difficult to rig, maybe you should have titled it "The Crow: AKA Beast of Burden" for CGTALK. Excellent work though. Looks very good in the top post. I know you guys can't show the project this was used for but could you quickly render out a short flutter flyby or something for us CGTALK souls here since this looks so fantastic?

Guess that's an oxymoron right? "QUICKLY RENDER"? Hehe...

Excellent !!! I personally know hard it is to rig anything that is supposed fly and fold the wings..etc etc...would like to see still versions of the model it looks good but hard to tell with the blur :applause:

Hey there, nice model.

I'm kinda curious as to how you would get accurate shadows
from the wings, since, as far as I know, the light would cast a rectangle (the geometry) instead of the alpha which you see at render time.

Cheers.

the only thing wrong is that the head is not of a crow, the beak of a crow is I believe black the head needs re-working.

Hey, leprinoxyz, nice to meet u here, i am working on a little project about bird, May i ask u question? Do u use single skeleton for each of the feather (i mean on wings and tail)? please give some advices about how to set up a bird, should i keep bird's wings expanding in the progress of modeling?Thank you a lot,.
You bird looks very cool, I love this bird.

Yep, I would darken the beak a little and make the head a "lower". Right now it looks more like a "Corvus frugilegus" than a "Corvus corone corone". Don't know the english names for them, but in swedish the corvus corone corone is the black crow, Svart kråka, and the corvus frugilegus is a Råka. Also there is the "Corvus corone cornix" which is the grey crow.

(ok,I admit it, I am interested in birds)

At first I thought I was looking at a Blackbird instead of a Crow. I think it's because of the head. The beak doesn't appear massive enough. Some more angles would show the model a little better.

the principal wing bones are 5, the others is animated with a script. Every scripted bone is moved with the influence of the principal bones.
On every bone has been linked one or more plumes.

there are two different scripts and manipulators to control the wing and tail opening.

then we have made a cicle animation
40 frames = slow
12 - 9 frames = fast

Dato che ancora non ho visto il clip mi chiedevo se si tratta del video dell' ex cantante dei Timoria... Renga insomma!

we animate it by keyframe using ik.

it was simple because we had to move only 4 bones, other bones was controlled by a simple script

we took madonna's videoclip "frozen" and other images/video found on the net as reference to animate the crow

bye bye
