View Full Version : I'm looking for some honest advice and insight...
OceanMachine45 03-24-2005, 12:12 AM Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm seriously thinking about applying myself towards being a texturing/environment artist. I tried organic modeling and low poly modeling, and I'm not too great at it. I haven't done much character animation, and it doesn't really interest me. Now my question is, in the United States, how big is the texturing industry? Would it be something worth pursuing seriously? Or would I be better off working on another skill, complementing it with texture knowledge? I'm at wits end with 3D stuff. I have my BFA in film/animation, but I'm not very good at any aspect, and I'm close to rethinking my future. Before I did, I figured I'd ask these questions. Thanks.

Take a look in the general discussion forum, I think there has been a similar question there recently. In the last week or so.

I work as a texturing artist on feature films in California. Yes, there certainly is work for texturing artists here... if you have experience ;) Since you're only starting out, I would suggest having a broader set of skills, and rather narrow it down and specialise over a few years of working in a studio first.
Even these days I still do a lot of lighting and modelling as well, just for the hell of it :D
