ok, im having a problem with the graph editor

I have a free camera that pans 180 degrees, but i want it to move at certain speeds at certain times ( slow at the beginning and end, quick in the middle, sort of like a parabola) However keyframing the motion screws it all up, i guess its trying to smooth it out too much because it pans in directions it shouldnt

now on to the graph editor problem, i thought i could get a better result if i graphed the rotation under function curves but i get no graphed lines whatsoever in the cameras rotation track (position and scale work, they have graph lines that correspond to the animation) ive checked in filters and rotation should show. What the heck is wrong?

Yeah adjusting the function curves is a good plan for this, it'll work nicely. Are you using MAX R4 or R5?

I suspect you're running MAX4 and you're experiencing the problems that comes with using the TCB Controller. Which MAX4 assigns to rotation by default.

If this is the case you'll want to:

Go to the Motion tab
Open the "Assign Controller" rollout
Select the "Rotation:" entry
Click the small icon that lights up just above called "Assign Controller"
In the popup select "Euler XYZ"
Optional: Hit the "Make Default" button to make newly-created objects have the Euler XYZ controller assigned per default. I recommend doing that, it always seems better to have it assigned. It also makes it easier to wire parameters. MAX5 comes by default with Euler XYZ assigned to position and rotation, so it can't be all bad...
You can now see the motion-graphs in Track View

I don't know why MAX4 comes equipped like that.. I've changed my default-assigned controllers to Euler XYZ in Position as well as Rotation. ..hm.. come to think of it I guess Scale should get the same treatment.

If you do this you'll see that, in Track View, there is suddenly three seperate entries under Rotation, one for each axis. You can see the graph of all three of them at the same time, by CTRL clicking each entry. It works out nicely.

Have fun with them curves.

Dude, you are seriously awesome. I knew it had to be some obscure thing like that. Thanks a lot!

EDIT: Just tried it, it works perfectly, thanks again!
