Electronic Arts is currently looking for a VEHICLE MODELERS/TEXTURE PAINTERS for project-based hire.
This position will last about 6 months in length.
Vehicle Modeler & Texture Artist
Builds the geometry, layout UV co-ordinates and paints texture maps for PS2 Game-resolution Vehicles.
Prerequisites:
Candidates for Modeling positions must demonstrate an ability to think in 3D
Excellent craftsmanship
A portfolio demonstrating the following is required:
· Examples of high-quality, game-resolution 3D Vehicle Models (around 4-5K triangles)
· Excellent sense of form, weight (mass), and volume
· Good use of light and shadow
· Breadth of artistic styles
· Excellent sense of scale
· Excellent level of finish
· Drawing skills
Requirements:
§ Demonstrates ability to work from reference materials with high level of accuracy (to ref. Material).
§ Demonstrates ability to model complex hard-surface models within a limited polygon budget.
§ Able to work with multi-pass shaders to achieve surface effects on Vehicles
§ Strong proficiency in Maya
§ Experience modeling and texturing Vehicles in a Video Game production environment
§ Good communication skills.
§ Should be able to work with other artists and engineers to export models into the game format and troubleshoot accordingly.
§ 3+ years working as a 3D Artist for Video Game Production
Understanding
Demonstrates a strong understanding of following and how they impact models in real time environments:
· Light
· Form
· Scale
· Layout
· Motion
· Fundamentals of visual language
· Approximating curved surfaces with a limited polygon budget
· Advanced modeling techniques
Responsibilities:
Based upon concept drawings/reference materials, creates models that for primary aspects/assets of a title:
· Are consistently built within the correct scale with nominal supervision
· Are within the technical limitations and remain within budgets supplied; works within and may assist in establishing modeling workflows and protocols.
· Are animated easily and reliably.
· Easily adapt to various resolutions and target platforms
· Are efficient, to correct scale, and within dictated budget
· When requested, create turntable renders of assets for review
· When necessary, conducts research for models; constructs physical form studies or physical models as necessary
· Will be required to create texture maps from scratch and UV map to models.
