View Full Version : Errant Keys!? Maya 6.5 Problem, need help...

I'm working on an animation and as usual I'm using some pretty heavy file referencing. This may or may not have anything to do with it, but I figure I'll say it anyways. So, the referencing is cool in some scenes, meaning: They load up fine, everything looks the way it was saved, all is kosher. However, half the scenes are coming up and there are some new keys that I didn't add and some of the keys I made are different.

Things I know:
The character reference files have no keys in them.
The environment reference files have no keys in them.
The problem occurs in scenes where auto-key was and wasn't used to animate.
After removing and fixing the problems, saving the file, and upon re-opening the problem is still there.

So, is this a new 6.5 feature, putting keys where they don't belong and weren't made and/or where in the preference editor can I turn this off. I know this is probably a rather strange thing to troubleshoot if you can't see it first hand, but I've had such luck with everyone on these forums that I'll post this problem too. Sure is cheaper than a 150 dollar Alias tech support call.

Thanks guys,

Well, I have never used referencing before, but I recently suggested to my group that we use it for out animation....but now me thinks it might not be such a good idea.
When exactly does this come up? When your reference file has not autokeys and your master file does has used autokeys?

good luck

Well, I'll still be using it. A near 30 minute project with multiple scene changes makes NOT using it absolutely absurd, I HAVE to use it. I've found out how to solve this problem with a weird little dirty fix. Just don't open your scenes with auto-key on. Turn off auto-key before opening your scenes and I've cut down the percentage of this happening by atleast half.

I personally think Maya 6.0 is SOLID for referencing. The main new thing in 6.5 is changes to the referencing system... maybe that's why it's so buggy... it's pretty new. If I would have realized that before I would have stuck to 6.0

Still having a problem though with this, so if anyone has anymore ideas, let me know.

Sorry I don't have any help for you, but I appreciate the info. Since we are using 6.0, we'll definitely use referencing from here on out.
Good luck on the project!
