Latest Update: Final Image: THE PRINCESS AND HER BODYGUARD
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/6235/6235_1116371036_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/6235/6235_1116371036_large.jpg)
At last it is finished…. Here is my final image. I call it THE PRINCESS AND HER BODYGUARD. I hope you enjoy it.
THE STORY
In a kingdom of a far away world is attacked by their neighboring kingdom. They sent is thousands of robot solders to attack and destroy the kingdom, and the royal family. In the verge of defeat, the king orders his trusted cyborg solder Egolad to protect his only daughter Princess Alida. He is told to take her to a safe land of their ancestors.
In their path to the safe land princess Alida discovers Egolad is not just a solder but he has a very good heart. Thus they became very close friends. On their way they encounter several attacks from the wondering enemy drones. Egolad uses every bit of his energy to fight them and save princess Alida. After a tiring battle Egolad and Alida stands near their enemy’s ruins. Alida’s servant has served her well and in return he wins her trust and friendship.
THE STORY BEHIND THE CONCEPT AND MY IMSPIRATIONS
I am very fond of sci-fi movies and I also enjoy great stories. My idea for this piece comes from a mixtures of sci-fi, drama and fantasy. I like to keep a since of emotion in my works, a great picture or movie with no life doesn’t appeals to me. So here I tried to capture a slice of time where human emotion is visible. I’ll leave my audience to judge if I reached that goal or not.
ABOUT THIS CHALLENGE
I am very thankful to CGnetworks to arrange such a wonderful challenge. I really enjoyed working on this particular theme. It gave me a lot to push myself a bit ahead and also I’m happy that I have been able to finish it.. I’ve always been very weak in the field of texturing, I had a lot of practice from working on this project, and I think I have improved a lot. I would definitely be interested in joining more future challenges cause its so great here and peoples here are just so talented and helpful. Its been a heck of a time.
MORE ABOUT THE IMAGE
The things that you see in this image is there because of reason. Starting from the background, it is blurred cause its now an unsafe zone, and is left behind. The sparks of fire in the air is because something in the right was shot and it basted into flames, but the flame are invisible. The cape Egolad is wearing is for 2 reasons, it symbolizes the royal army and also symbolizes that a protecting blanket is around Alida. The bracelet that Alida wears is to symbolize she is a Princess. The simple outfit she wares is because it’s a time of crisis not a time to ware tangling outfit. Egolad wears a baggy pant, cause its cool. The gun that he holds is a shock blaster. It generates a shockwave that tears out all the internal parts of the victim. Well that’s about it.

Hey guys sorry for the late submission. But, here is my first concept. And here is the story:
-------------------------------
The year is 2521. Evil beings from another planet threaten the survival of the human kind. To fight back humans got tangled into an epic war. Almost everything is lost in it. Few who survive must be protected. One of them was princess Alida. The king, in the verge of defect, assigned one of his most powerful cyborg guards to protect his only daughter. The cyborg called Egolad took princess Alida to a place where she can hind and be safe. In the way they became very close friends. On their journey they gets attacked by the enemy, Egolad gives his every last ounce of energy to save Alida. After the battle they stand there on the pieces of their enemy.
-------------------------------
Tell me what you think about this...

Hi overcontrast,
Imprerssive scetches!
But for me hands seem to be too little (especially fingers) comparing to overall figure. I suggest that you make them longer otherwise for him it would hard to move his fingers...
second pose is more dramatic. good luck.

I am really liking this idea! My only qualm would be the semi-cliche half face being cyborg. Maybe if you made one eye cyborg, kind of subtle, that would be better than making half his skull that way, it just seems a bit cliche to me, but you might be able to pull it off so it looks original. I'll keep an eye out on this thread :)

hes a big boy. apart from what u said urself the only crit i have is the pecs. depending on the pose they will change dramatically on a guy that size. if his arms where outstretched they would be in that form but if his arms are down they would for a more square shape than triangle.(if that makes sense???) i think u need to shave off a lil pecs where they meet too, no one can obtain that much definition, not even arnie in his hay day.
sorry there was a time where u could find me in the gym every day of the week... anyway thats all i can nit pick at its a great model.
all the best

Wow!
Missed a quick one here. Everybody's just in friggin' frenzy or something. Great work:thumbsup:.
If you want advice on the model here's my 2 cents. The ribs should end lower at the front side and they could be bent more(curve aiming downwards. You could also, for aeesthetic reasons, make the second "six-pack" muscle smaller then the upper one and then the lower ones a bit wider again. All of them could be less wide I think. Saying this 'cause I like you work. Good luck with it!!!

Hi, the first sketch was better imo, as for the model, its pretty nice man, only crit is the shape of the head: maybe you should try to make it more round, it looks a lil like a box if u see wat im tryin to say? its flat on the sides there is like an angle from the side to the forehead, i would work on this area a lil bit, the torso is really good, keep it up!! good luck! :)

hey Zubuyergreat stuff here ... the model looks mad.. cant wait till you add all the mechanical features to him, hell look fantastic. didnt read everybodys replies so i just tell you what i though should be changed, his obliques need to be just a little smaller then the size of his abbs to get a really good look for a man that size,, his ears look like mike tysons, too small for a big man... other then that man thats next to perfect dude... really clean and great Great Modeling!! keep it up!!
Great model an interesting concept :)
The pec are still too flat i think, the size of the arms should brings him some huges pecs

Looking very good! realistic even!
I was looking at refs of bodybuilders(google images: bodybuilder, excellent refs!!!), somehow I think the abs are off. here's a good reference:>>link (http://www.kopykake.com/images/bodybuilder.jpg)<<
and it looks like there should be a group of muscles present at the ribs. Also very visible on the link. Otherwise it's pretty much dead-on as far as I can tell now.

Your modeling is going very impressive so far...
But there is a small something that caught my attention;
As much as I have tried to skim through your whole thread please forgive me if this was mentioned earlier. Not with the best of attention spans at the moment.
I notice that with your original sketch aswel. You havepulled up the pectoralis major a bit too high... I mean the thicker chest muscle. This it not too irregular.. and infact found in many heavy workers. But it seem that when you were following it's musculature you have pulled up the bicepts (The buldging arm muscle) a tidy bit too high. It doesn't have any anatomical leverage to lift the arm.
At first glance it does't take much of a notice because the mass above it is so great. But whan you try calculating the position of the shoulder joint, b removingthe deltoid, you can see what I mean.
If you have further plans on covering the area up slightly... just igonre this. Cause the rest of the model is too great a success to draw any attention to the arm-pits.
The sculpting is going outstanding. And it was great fun to go through your thread to witness the process. Keep it up!

• Looking good Zubuyer! About pectorals, yeah one may say they are not natural or whatever, but we are artist in here and everybody has a style, if you are going for hyperealistic modelling, then you should listen critics about it, otherwise it looks good to me

BlackDidThis: thank you for the suggestion man... yeah theres some anatomical mitakes over there, i'll try to fix them in the next update

hey mate, that model is looking awesome. I always try to give sorts of constructive crits, but since my english sux, specially when it comes to anatomical specifications, i wrote you the latin names of them, hope my descreptions help you to figure out what i mean.
the inner side of the ellbows (M.Brachialis) and the pit between biceps and triceps (Spetum intermusculare ulunare) could use a slight bit of definition maybe, also handjoints could be a slight bit more defined and "angularity" on the outside caused by the ending of "raduis" (the thumbside bone of the lower arm) when hands bending hands inwards.
On his backside, the M.trapezius (muscle group neck->shoulders) looks a bit too blewn up in relation to the rest of the muscles there. to add volume, i'd start on the lower spinearea center, and gave some volume to Pars aponeuotic fasciae lumbodorsalis, then move upwards to latissimus dorsi, M. teres Major to finally meet the delts and have a nice flow, having the neck as reference for the massconteroll.
of course i know what wip means, and also, my suggestions are only a matter of taste and my own personal point of view as always. your work looks very very good yet, looking forward how your big boyo gets into his shapes and from what i can see, we're looking forward to some freakin awesome work here :)
Hope the one or the other of my points in any way was usefull to you and supports you on your fantastic way of creation. keep on rockin' mate,
cheers:thumbsup:

Very nice style man, your character is awesome. Concept is nice too although I'd very much like to see a more "action type" situation... like he'd be protecting the kid against an incoming danger or so... rather than a quiet atmosphere. So far it shows more of a parent-child relationship than servant-master... of course it is only the way I perceive it. You might not even need to show the incoming danger just your character keeping the kid behind him and fronting the danger, taking all the fire... I dunno... just thinking out loud now. Or else if you wanna keep it quiet... the kid on his shoulders might be more suggestive. Well there I go... tellin you what to do :) ... am just sharing my thoughts here, I think it will look awesome in the end anyway.
an other thing... a detail... out of all the nice curves on the body, the inside of the pecs tickled me a bit... might B a lil too deep there

Adriano_Zanetti: wow thanx for ur long comment.. i respect ur thought very much but the concept is laid, now i see the scene as i set them out. so to think of something else means changing a lot of things. but i like ur suggestions. as i said before i like more of a storytelling calm atmosphere rather then a action sequence. Just my taste tho. And yeah ur dead on with the pectoral problem.. i forgot to tweak it.. i'll fix it up in the next update...

Lookign good, she's a ver cute girl. You make texturing look so easy. Curious to know the whole material setup up. How do you keep, or plan to keep, the UV mapping from messing up when you create the body? Will the body be an entirely different object?

Z looks like you were able to transfer her cuteness to 3d :) The eyes look a little lifless though...are you planning on doing something more with them??

Maxko, smaddl, rynomyte, Neeno, Lemog: Thank you very much for ur appriciation guys. U inspire me.
ace4016: Thanx for ur comment man. Well textureing is different depening on the character. For this perticuler character i wont be creating the underlaying body, cause it wont be seen in the final image anyways. So i model and texture each part seperately. When i model the hands i'll use a different UV mapping and textures.
3dRaven: thanx for the comment mate.. yes i feel the same about the eyes.. it needs more work. I still need to add the eyelash.. and i might go easy on the mascara...
thank u all for ur support.

Here is another update of textureing Alida. Did some tweaking with the epidermal skin, added a bump layer, updated the spaculer layer and subdermal layer. Tweaked the eyes a little bit and also soften the marcara.
Tweak tweak tweak, it goes on forever eh? You pretty much look to have the face sorted now but wait till you start putting expression in there the tweaking starts again. I've had several sleepless nights tweaking myself. Love what you are doing with the texturing and the play of light.

Hi overcontrast, I think the rules are , Interpretative!
The relationship of master-to-servant can be human-to-creature or creature-to-human, one-to-many or many-to-one, about human condition, and therefore requires at least one human component, whether in the dominant or the submissive role.
thanks for your comments, I like your texture work, a nice level of realism
best of luck!
Patina
*hey grea modleing and lighting...ur concept is very touchy but just to remind u the contest rules.. ur final image should contain atleast 2 characters... one being the Master and the other being the Servant. And we should never frget the meaning of servant, which is to serve.. in this case surve the master... thats all from me.. happy vertex pulling*

Alida model and the texture are really great. She's already expressive. The transluscence of the ears is great. The shading is of Alida is gonna be awsome. The comment about these steps is: It's perfect. I can't wait to see the whole model:thumbsup:
The modeling and the concept of egolad is brillant.
Overcontrast, Do you know of to finsih the jonction between the the mecha arm and the shoulder. Or maybe you You're gonna Hide this under a shoulderpad.

thanx for the comments guys.
venum: Thank you for ur comment venum. I'm glad that u appriciate my work. And about the arm junction, well the arm is not completely finished, if u look closely the shoulder joint of the mecha pert is perfectly aligned in 90degree angle, this is for better aligning purpos. And when i completely done (or should i say bore doing) with the arm i'll seal the shoulder part... And yes, there there are gonna be shoulder armors, but that wont hind the shoulder junction. I'll post some more updates soon. thank you again.

I have noticed the jonction of the meccha arm onto the body and the gap on the top of the shoulder. The shoulder armor make sens.
Anyway, I know it's not easy to make jonction between flesh and metal.

Will try to improve
You going good so far. The feet seem a bit too blocky compared to the cyber-arm. Try maybe smoothing out some of those edges. He looks like he could use a new pair of sneakers the current feet probably wouldn't have good grip. Maybe try splitting the two toes? He would have better balance if the had some sort of toes (maybe try turning the two outwards a bit?)
I'm suprised how much details you were able to cram into him...definitly a demo reel character is born

Hey nice Hand! You give a more human like style to your cyborg! The new jonction of the arm to the body and the shoulder pad are great.
the top of the body is less mechanical style , so that make sense now, you want to change the foot. You've got to choice on my opinion. A kind of barefoot style (terminator), or a kind of shoes style (that seems to be the direction to follow, for that you have many reference in the manga book). Or You can keep the foot you've got, but you need to change the model of the jonction to the legs. The ankles look like tiny and cheap now with the new concept of the body.

Great character and modeling! The only thing for me is that the feet don't look as organic as the other mechanical parts. The arm has a great style to where the mechanical components follow human anatomy (roughly). I think it would help if the feet did something similar. Really nice modeling. Keep it up.

jowens: i made the feet long tym ago, and still didnt changed it, its more like blocked (as many said) so i'll change it real soon. thanx for dropping by mate.
venum: thank you very much. Its great to get appriciation and feed back from some1 like you. I like ur idea, and as for ur information, i was inspired from medival armoury, manga and a bit of rock culture to build this cyborg. So for the feet i'm thinking of a very stylish menga look which is at the same time functional. So i wont go for a bare foot look, but rather a metalic sneeker look. Thanx you very much again for dropping here in my thread.
