Hi,
Im trying to modell something very simpel here, when i extrude a surface from the side of my poly cube it all goes well, but when i smooth the whole thing it looks crappy!
See the examples.
Is there some way to clear this out?
The original, poly cube with an extruded surface (and manipulated)

The smoothed version: http://www.bronzilla.f2s.com/_smooth.jpg
thanks in advance,

looks like you need to merge edges - if you're extruding multiple faces in maya, even if they're co-planar, you'll find that extrude automatically creates faces along the sides of each extruded face. you might need to delete these in-between faces, and then merge the separate edges.

Whaf if I......use little to few isoparms, and if nessasery add more to the surface which I want to extrude? so i will only extrude one piece (where i moved up an isoparm)??
difficult story.
TIA.

Try turning keep new faces together on.

you could try rebuilding it so it has more faces and wont degrade like it does and soften edges. don't know if it will help though.

yeah, youve got a many sided face there so its going to screw up. make all of your faces 4 sided.

Yeah, like the above reply says, when you extrude your faces make sure that "faces together" is turned on. It's at the bottom of the channel box, and you might have to scroll down some to see it. I had the same problem. Hope that helps.
