Jose Pardo has entered the Master and Servant 2D.

Challenge Page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/view_entries.php?challenger=6208)

Latest Update: Final Image: The Masters Sword
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/6208/6208_1116391926_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/6208/6208_1116391926_large.jpg)

I wanted to portray a benevolant Master Servant relationship. One where the Servant serves willingly, even unto death if necessary. There are many that we choose to serve, our God, our leaders, our art. All three are in my image. Perhaps some day through humble service, or fate, we might one day become Masters ourselves. I tried to capture that moment, when the Servant must become the Master.

As soon as I saw the challenge, I saw my image, sort of. I sketched out the concept with the basic composition imediately, then the noodling began. I knew that I wanted to show a benevolent master servant relationship. I had a servant kneeling, handing the sword to the knight, but there was something that just wasnt clicking. So I went back to thumbnail #342 ; ) and drew the king instead. The master has been mortally wounded, and now the servant will avenge his masters life or die trying. Where he was while the king was in trouble I am not sure, maybe he was getting his hair done... Finally, though I am not a religious person, I felt that the image needed a higher master, that both king and knight serve, represented by the heavenly light beaming down on them. Nuff said.

These heroes, they're so vain. This is looking good, I like the poses, especially the king.

I am pretty happy with it, I want a lot of atmsphere in this one, beautiful clouds and majestic sunbeams.

Good sketch, i should admit although i think the idea of king and the warrior as Master and Servant is too common. But the idea of the king(as a master) become the weaker individual, is a good idea. I wanna see how this one would finished

Thanks for the support guys, I am really happy with the sketch, but... I admit I am having a very difficult time with the color for some reason. I have spent several fruitless nights trying different things and nothing is working for me. I hope I can snap out of it this weekend.

Thanks again to all for visiting.

Looking very nice! My only issue with it is the king looks scared thus making it look like the knight is about to throw his life away for some punk that doesn't deserve it. If I were you I'd make the king unable to fight due to injury or something and get rid of the frightened facial expression. Just my opinion. Keep it up.

Oops, just read your story on the first post, nm my comments ;)

Wonderful classic work, with a nice twist with the king being the servant. Your composition i solid and fluid, and the idea of lots of sunbeams and dramatic clouds has me dancing with glee. Can't wait to see colour!

I agree, the best thing here is that the 1 that should be master is kind of aservant - nice. Hmm, i'm sure he'll end this war without a scrath on his face and shiny armor:) Just don't tell me he will be blond:rolleyes:

OK, finally got the sky looking the way I wanted, still needs work, but at least I'm in the neighborhood. The ground around the King will be dying and as it moves forward towards the servant it will be alive. Their costumes still need work I am not sure of the coloring, but my main concern was the sky. Thanks again to all who looked I will browse around tomorrow and see how everyone else is coming along. Have a good one!

Trying to finish the bkgd. I am trying to apply some of what I read in Linda's Q&A so I am still feeling like a pig on roller skates. I'm liking some things about it not so happy with others. Bkgd still needs work. Thanks for visiting!

love the grass and the clouds especially, the knight certainly has the heroic pose on this!i think maybe u might wanna off focus alil bit on the army and also the rocks/stones futher back on the background as to create some sense of depth for it.
best of luck mate:thumbsup:

I like it. The sky is particularly good. The only thing I don't like is the bright line along the horizon. It divides the image into two and distracts the eye, it would be better to continue the dark shading of the clouds right down to the horizon. Looking great other than that :)

Thanks to all for visiting. Have been very busy lately, not alot of time to look around and see how everyone else is progressing. I am trying hard to apply some of the things I learned in Linda's and Steven's Q&A. It is not easy to teach an old dog new tricks! ; )

Marko- Thanks for the advice about the different armor colors.

Baron- Thanks for the sky/horizon tip, it does look better now.

It still amazes me the amount of talent on this site!

Thanks to all,

mwahahaha its criticising time:twisted: the light on the knights face is impossible, the sun is behind him, metal reflects light , that is true, but it also reflects colours,in other words his cape, also the metal of this glorious armor needs some decoration, ornaments and stuff, cloak ias a storxy for itself ,it needs to be enlighted, light passes through single layer fabric. now if u have msn messenger i can really give u some cool and simple tips on how to improve it, it is an awesome work and it would be a pity not tto bring it to its greatest epic potential, if u have msn then p m me and well talk, later man:thumbsup:

Good progression on your painting, just I would re-examine the light on the face of the knight, because that flattened its head and does not correspond any more in the light of the body, good I hope not annoyed with my small criticism, go, go for the continuation.

Thanks to all for visiting. Everybody is bothered by the lighting on the face except for me! LOL! I knew it wasnt totally accurate, but if that many people are bothered by it I guess I should redo it. I was getting into a good groove there for a while, disappointed to have to leave it alone this week, toooo much going on. Thanks.

Hi Josť. Great work here. I like the way the composition go. All the sky and the background army have a rounded perspective sense that I like a lot. The grass and soil took the same rounded sense. It all flows around the hero. This is great. Awesome clouds and light. Can't wait to see the characters develope. Good luck!

Hello Jose. I saw little icon to the left of a post and liked the way it looked so, decided to drop by. I like this image. Very 'board game art' like. What I mean by that, you could easly (if your not already), get work doing art for the board game industry you know, fantasy art/magic/wars etc. Someone here mentioned that we have seen this art time and time again (or something to that effect). Who cares, because even if we have all seen this type of scenrio before, each time it will look different. And it's always great to see a NEW interpretation. And, I very much like what you have done here. Great detail (man, that grass must have taken you some time-smile). I absolutely love the clouds, very majestic (and the colors in them are just great!). Hope you finish it this weekend, there is still time. Ok, best my friend and take care.
