An interior, interaction between characters. Moves away from the unwanted separation aspect shown in the first concept.

Another interior, overlooking an exterior landscape. Objects outside (such as period car) to highlight the era in which the scene is set.

The basis for this piece is to portray the Master-Servant relationship as something forced upon the individuals, as a circumstance neither person wants to endure.
The chosen element involves that of an elderly couple, one of whom has begun to suffer from an illness/disease which requires the constant care of their partner. Having lived a quiet (and idealised) life, the couple are now forced into a life which upsets the balance of the common relationship.
The goal of the piece is to blur the line between the Master and Servant roles, to make the watcher re-evaluate the couple and exactly which role they fit into. Does the 'carer' become the Master of its partners life, organising its days, meals and hygiene? Or do they serve the biological whims of the sick and infirm?
The obvious emotional struggle is at the fore-front of this, and will be the primary concern when creating the piece. The location and date of the image has been selected to help maximise this element; as has the relationship between the two characters. A nurse-patient relationship, for example, would mar the struggle in light of it being the 'carers' paid and trained occupation.
The location, an apparent farmhouse in the countryside, aims to portray a feeling of isolation far from neighbourly assistance. The era, as yet undecided, will be set in a time which pre-dates the common occurance of the 'nursing home', when the elderly were cared for by the family. A feeling of poverty and quiet desperation is a subtext I hope the completed piece will touch upon.
