Wow that an impressive one it really give me te creeps

one ting maybe the coloring of the bears is too similar with the color of the background maybe a bit more brown or lighten them up

so that you can recognise this sweet tortured souls

In a few words this is really great and I love the mood you have here (Burton-like)!

I'm not so fond of the lighting however. It is very good and it works well but it is just that maybe it reveals too much of the surrounding environment.
No other crits !

Yob Yob thats good stuff -- hmm very good stuff - nice colors - les couleurs sont tres jolies - tres belle palette -
Ca manque a mon avis un peu de clarté pour la comprehension de l action -- j ai eu du mal a identifier tout ce que je voyais. voila voila

Hi, thanks for your comments was really usefull.
Here is maybe the final picture. I've added and corrected little stuffs: darken the background a bit, rework the pillar and the ground material, the blood on the axe, the floating chains, the nasty bear...
Any suggestions or advices?
Thanks in advance.

ps: there's now 6 bears on the picture( 3 are obvious, 1 quite easy and the last ones harder to find :) )

Hye reiv Like you now I'm a fan of your, it looks really good, but i think the image is not filled anough in the right corner. maybe you can add some light. And if you have time put some candels in the " luster" the girl looks cold but thats the purpose, but she looks to nothing. SHe is a bear killer, and there is a bear in front of her, and she doesn't look at him? Maybe if she looks at the bear in front of her, we can suggest that he's goiing to be the next victim? But for the rest ... nice image
good luck

Wow great work , it's truely a masterpiece, the style is wonderful and the realisation is amazing !
Top 10 work for sure :)
For me , the only things to get better is the lisibility..at first view,i'haven't seen that the girl handles weapons..maybe add some specular effect on the blades to bring the eyes to it!
I think you should add some light on the foreground and the front bear :)

Like the girl and the ambiance.textures and setting.Concept is a good one.I think more light on the main characters,a touch at least would be good, dark is the tone for this I know, but it's too dark.Real good job man.

Hey groovy work so far! I think you shouldn't give up on your lighting just yet. All your elements are in place, but they all seem to be of the same colour tone, which really diminishes the foreground and bg, so in other words it feels kind of flat. Maybe you could add stronger lights of different colour for your fg elements, otherwise you just have blues and purples ya?

Just my 2 cents, because I really like your work, and hope to see it reach its full glory!

Cheers

Hi,
Thanks for your comments guy, was really usefull. I\'ve mainly tried here to darken and modify the color of the backroud behind the girl and lighten it a bit more in the upper right corner, to make the picture more legible. I also tried to add candles in the luster but it was diturbing to have something lit and clear in this part of the picture. So the candles are here but extinguished :).

Thanks again,

Olivier:)

It's still making a great job.
But one advice. You've got a pool of light in the back on the girl and we can't see where this light is coming from. maybe because you scene is a bit foggy you need to use a volumetric light of to light a bit and cast the shadow on the floor.

great job:applause:

Thanks again guys,
Here is a try with a volume light behind the girl as venum suggested. Don't really know if it's better or not.
Which one do you prefer?

authentic
05-11-2005, 09:50 AM
Well I prefer without. Or very less important. Your lighting seems good enough without. With this color we loose of the dark ambience.
Anyway it's great picture. One of the favorite for the winning place.:bounce:

I think youre right authentic, that's a little too much. Here is a other version. Indeed that's a detail, but evil is in the detail :)

authentic
05-11-2005, 10:57 AM
Well. It's better now. But I think you can make it better again. It feels not realy integrated in the picture (ca fait un peu rajouté:). Maybe with the form a little too round. Or maybe the light has too go a little on the next side of the girl too. Doesn't really know. I make crit but it's because I love your picture. :D
It's a question of sensibility...Some friends near me disagree...

 i love your work and this piece of art too.
great idea, cool character and nice scene.
it was fun to follow your process.

i like the new fresh colour in your scene. i found the older rendering too monocromatic and thought of a coloured light breaking through the top window and lighten up her face or a teddy to show all the pain he had experienced.
the new backlight is something like this, but i dont know, if it is placed there very well. but better then the old one.

just wow

Its turing out great! I love the enviroment especially the stairs.

Lemog
05-11-2005, 01:06 PM
Good idea with new light... but only one problem... the other objects in the scene don't seem receiving a minimum a color due to this lighting... and then, this part of the picture appear more flat now... I know it's a volumetric light... but raylights always move in a rectilinear way... then, for the moment I prefer the previous version without this new lighting... :D

Olivier. It's actually a really nice work.
The light on the girl is more accurate now on her back, but I need to feel
something on the side of the stair. I would to see something, some part brighter. it still have the same darkness, that
doesn't make any senses. Or maybe it too much subtil to my eyes.
You're work is a piece of art.

 very nice and great work!

the transluscence onto the cloth is white and you back like is pink.

that doen't make sense.
Maybe you can grade you're backlight from the white to the pink. the pink is actually nice, but not accurate according to the cloth of the girl.

It's a master piece your work.

I saw this one a couple of days ago and was absolutely amazed... but I forgot to link the thread and I had to ask around to find it again, that's how badly I wanted to see it a second time.

You have such stunning designs and a wonderful sense of colours. It reminds me of something by Tim Burton yet it's still very uniquely yours. I think this is one of my favourites in the challenge. Best of luck to you.

Hi,
I think you are a GREAT artist man. I know your past works and you have a great syle and technique. This work is no different. You have a great mood in this scene and your personal style on it. My only crit is about your composition. Looking at the thumbnail I can see the main character (the girl) really very small and apart of the rest of the picture. It means that people can have problems to understand your image with distance (but looking close of course we can see the amount of great details and style you put on it). Maybe this is your intention and this is just my personal opinion but I think you can have the same mood but better comp if you try a different cut, showing the girl closer to the camera. Again, this is only my personal tought.

Great job on another great work from you man! :buttrock:

Hi thanks for your comments guys!
Sorry, to reply so lately, but I've just finished my exams yesterday.
Daddymack : about the making of the bear: I've use the first bear I've shown you, turn off the displace map and replace it by a fabrics bump map. Then I added the fur and use a texture to specify the length of the hairs, a sort of contrasted noise map so that the fur seems depilate in some parts.
Concerning the composition my aim was to make a scene with a story, so that you can feel the roomy and cold aspect of the background, feel the mood in the picture. I think with a closer view, I whould have lost this atmosphere.
Finally, about the background brightness, it really depends on you monitor calibration. In fact that was my biggest problem. My picture is quite dark, or made to be seen as this. I've seen it on a really bright monitor and it was ugly. I really had problems to calibrate my monitor. So the aspect of the picture really depends on your monitor. I just hope it looks the way I want on a perfectly well calibrated monitor.

Thanks again for your comments and good luck
