hey, well, here is the other concept i told you, i dont know, this is something i havenīt done before so it may be a good idea to practice.. wich one you like the most? the robot or the dominatrix? i really wish i had time to do both!! so help me to decide!please!!

hola amigo loco, nasty kid. stop it and go icefishing :D lol just kidding. robot is more dramatic, dominatrix more nassssssssty. i like the funny concept, but the robot is sort of deeper, both are great, hard choice. if you are serious about a deep and epic piece, robot. if you just wanna have fun, nassstypic. sigh, looking over it tomorrow when back alive. keep it up my friend, cool concepts both  :argh:  cheers

keetmun
03-27-2005, 05:14 AM
Yes I agree both are great concepts, so I guess it's really up to you to decide which one you feel for more. In any case I'll be waiting for some good stuff from you!

Neeno
03-27-2005, 05:15 AM
Noth great and very kewl concepts might i add. I do like the 1st one better though (my opinion). I like a deep feel to an image so thats why i like the robot one more. Good luck i'll be watching to see what you choose and begin with.. kewl dude...

ArtisticVisions
03-27-2005, 03:18 PM
Hmm, hard choice; on one hand you have a dramatic concept, while the other is fairly humorous.

Personally, I prefer the first concept over the other (love that perspective), but it's up to you. Either way, I'm sure it'll turn out great. :)

TheFirstAngel
03-29-2005, 03:40 AM
looking over it now the second time and also try to remind this: The composition, body language, lighting, environment, atmosphere and facial expressions in the image itself should also be thoughtfully crafted to tell a powerful story that reaches out to the viewer.
the 1st has the potential to fulfill all points in a beautifull way. my personal choice, i'd go for the first one. keep it goin' Bernardo!

ciscoleal
03-29-2005, 04:46 AM
I don't know. I'm a bit torn. The first one with the chick really does communicate Master and Servant very well. It's also very lively. The second I like because I love robots. I really like the sketch, very well executed. Theme-wise though, I think the robot needs more human characteristics so the audience cares more for'em. Think Iron Giant.

go for the second sketch!

hey everybody! thank you so much for your replies, i have made a decision, i am going to make the robot in 3d, and i get my tablet before the challenge finishes, i will make the "dominatrix" in 2d, i tried to make a model of the face of the man in 3d, but it is really hard to capture the expresion i have in the drawing.. (again, the struggle between 2d and 3d..) anyways i will start working in 3d very very soon, i will also try to develop further the look of the robot, because for my taste it is a little bit too feminine, i will change the weapon and other things too..

well it is really nice to see all my friends in here and i hope i can make new ones, good luck to all of you, i will be checking your entries soon too!

well, here i have some concepts, i want this image to be more hard and more dramatic showing some big damage to the robot, as if it was fighting until total desactivation while trying to protect this really special kid. i know itīs not the most original story in the challenge, but he way i am going to put it togheter will make a difference, hope you like it!

hmm the rendering for today, as you can see, i a going for darker atmosphere, if some of you guys have seen my works i tend to render too happy and colorful worlds, not this time ..
letīs see death and destruction, heroes and revenge gwahaha!!

Hi there, 3db2!
I see you're trying different ideas here...
Well, I like much the very first scetch, I mean it's style. Actually as I see you're developing that one now, isn't it?
If you'll maintain your scetche's style - that can come out a great work!
By the way, good placed lightning - warm and narrative I'd sayhttp://www.cgtalk.com/images/icons/icon13.gif
I'll be back to see more your works!

well, today i continued on the modelling, it is interesting, i modelloed everything on really high res (100k polys for the head, and 160k for the chest) it started to be a big problem for mi poor laptop, but i just used the optimze feature, and now it is about 60k for everything.. interesting stuuf i am learning with this thing.. wel good luck, and please tell me what do you think =)

guismo
04-04-2005, 04:06 AM
wow, fantastic!
and you used max 7, with more then 100k poly, with the deformation tool and in a laptop???

i imagine the baby you have. i wish my pc could do half this...

DigitalOmega
04-04-2005, 04:15 AM
hmmm, well is not exactly a baby.. it is a little old, it is a p4 2.4 ghz 512 ram, nothing too special, the thing is that i had to hide some of the polygons depening on wich area i was painting, thatīs how i did it, you know you must adapt to the circumstances..

great and good expression in the agony that the robot might of add (if robots even have emotion) though it's good that you showed that.. z brush work is good.. impressed overall. He reminds me of Fender from the movie Robots by dreamworks not sure if you noticed it but i would've used him as reference for all types of breaks etc lol.. looks really good, gonna be a fantastic scene according to your concept.. Great stuff my friend keep it up

all the textures here are done in high resoltion up to 3500 px, since the final render will be huge, i dont want to have problems with the textures. god bless photoshop and the blending modes hehehe, i used some resources from the internet, if you want to find anything it can be really easy there.

for now enjoy, and tell me if you like it!

well, today a lot of work done! it should be like this everyday hehe, but well, i finished (almost) the bg, and added the smoke, just as a test to see how it looks like, it might need more detail, but itīs ok, tell me if you think it looks correctly, it will be very usefull!

:thumbsup:Great work 3db2.
I think you should spend more time on the lighting to give a really nice
ambiance. I don't like these smoke. they are to flat, thin. They look like just
cigarette smoke. But the idea is interesting. Spend more time on the lighting
and then work on the smoke. take of the ground. The texture look like pixies,
maybe you need to scale the texture. The scale between the rock rock of the
ground doesn't make sense with the door. There is a scal issue. On my opinon it
should be 5 or 10 times smaller, and it's a minimum.
You've got a real nice concept.

ahh, render render render, i love to do this hehe, i played yesterday, and i got this lighting, i guess it will be nice contrast and have good ambience, is heavily color corrected in ps, but i will add the volume light in 3d, this was just a fake, if you have any C&C let me know.. hmm i still have to correct that floor..

what a nice ambiance, it's really promissing.
A comment. the smoke should get the light and the shdow of the scene. Brighter and transluscent into the volumetrique light.
it's a great step

hey thank yuo for your replies, ahh i have been finsihing this thing for the last 10 hours.. itīs really crazy! but well i am having fun and i will keep going..

deseenme suerte hehe

:) If you're torturing your computer to make a beautifull challenge, carry on. It's worth it.
where is the little girl. She's still not here.
The lighting: ou've got volumetric lights. We can see them go down from the left to he right. On the wall and the door, we can see the light but not on the robot.
3 days to go.

well, here it is, i need more color correction, model the hands of the girl (i am sooo lazy!) and do something about that smoke, if i dont like it at the end, i guess i will just erase it.. well let me know waht do you think, if you like it or not, etc etc..

Hey, venum, thank you so much for your support, you have been very helpfull and inspirational in this challenge! and well, in the lights, i actually made the light that comes from the upper right side of the image to ignore the robot, because in the places where it touched the robot looked like crap (too oversaturated).. i hope not everybody will notice it hehehe..

thank you!

huh huh, i am just doing the final comp, it horrible to work in this pc with a big psd file... it takes like 4 mins to save.. anyways, i will consider change the position of the girl a little bit since its better if i just have her floating a little over the gun..

the smoke is still on hold, i am finishing rendering the last test, if it doesnīt add anything to the image i will just forget it hehe, letīs see..

for now i need a little bit more caffeine and more smokes, and keep working...

thank you for your replies!

hey, i am almost done, this is an image with the layers i used on the final composition, ambient occlusion, diffuse, volumens, smoke, etc etc.

the diffuse layer, took about 14 hours to render with brazil, hdri lighting, and GI, the occlusion layer was done in mental ray, and all the textures were done in photoshop, i used a plugin from nvidia to generate normal maps form bump maps, and it helped a lot hehe i guess there are a lot of stuff i can say about doing this image but for now, just wait like 5 mins until i get the final one hehe
