do you have the ability to set the ambient light at 1?
So you could basically turn off all the direct lights and make ambient = 1.
hmm. i tried the ambeint light but im using transparency so i get a really weird color on half the geometry. i just made a layered texture and use color and transparency and that seemed to work but i am not aboe to get my specular highlights in. give me a minute and ill post pictures of what im trying to achieve

Not sure if you're using Maya. If so use a Surface Shader to get rid of all shadings.
