David Freeman has entered the Master and Servant 2D.

Challenge Page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/view_entries.php?challenger=6040)

Latest Update: Concept Sketch: servant study

Still busy with job, so images and ideas are going to be slow at first (until after next week).

This was one of my first ideas for how the servant mourning her master could look - at least she looks more human than some of my other sketches!!

Must work more on costume...more to follow soon (must go and give my children their tea, so will add more later).

Bit of a slow start I'm afraid as I have a lot of storyboards to complete by the end of next week...then the challenge really begins!!!

I wanted to get some ideas down on paper, so created these sketches during breakfast this morning.

I'm being pulled in two directions at the minute and so have two ideas that both have their strengths and weaknesses.

The first idea is to portray the compassion and bond between a dying master and loyal servant. The image will show the master on his deathbed on route to his final resting place (cheerful start I know!!), with his loyal servant at his side.

He is being transported on a floating craft which is highly decorative (though finished in polished balck wood) and and illuminated by vast hanging lanterns.

As far as composition, I would like to show this craft in the air, creeping through the mist above a vast and ghostly city, but as the emotion is key to the challenge am still fighting with how to concentrate on key characters and still show enough of the environment.

The alternative idea is exactly the opposite and shows the struggle between master and servant. I imagined the servant leading his master through a off world / morrocan style market, the master sitting on some poor struggling beast (donkey / ox alternative), which also carries numerous gifts and trinkets he has bought on a whim.

The poor thinning servant looks sneakily at his master, planning sweet revenge when he gains his freedom by whatever means possible.

These are initial thoughts, so please let me know your thoughts and I'll attempt to get some better sketches and artwork very soon.

This was a very quick sketch of the funeral ship idea I had. Just trying to put in itial ideas down....

This was another sketch show master and servant. This is a bit too earthly and I would like to explore alternative environments, but I did like the composition. I see this as a hot mediterranean (sorry can't spell) environment -

 sorry everyone, but the workload at present (as well as moving house) has stopped me from having any free time to work on this challenge yet again. i can picture what I want to create / paint without having any time to get on with it.

Still with a bit of extra cash from the house sale, I might just free up enough time to work on the next. Still if it wasn't for the last challenge I worked on, I doubt I would be creating storyboards and concept art for the feature I'm working on, so can't complain too much.

Some amazing work out there and I hope to join you all in the next challenge (honest) :)
