ok ive got it. i know this looks chaotic but my images always look like that at the beggining. well the idea is to show the master as a spoiled boy and his servants as his toys. the girls represents a good master. i wanted to show that someone with this much power can toy with his servants and lead to destruction. i hope this sound symbolic and not just silly hehe. i hope to gest some feedback and some advice from you. thank you.best regards

so i guess that the last idea wasnt wasn\'t very good so i have come up with another one. again this doesnt look very interesting but now im gonna have a lot of time to make it look clearer.

here is another stage of the piece. i deicided to work a bit more on the characters just to give the general idea. and im still trying to block the shapes in the background. i am going to add some more servants and of courdse as mach detail in the background as possible. tell me what you think please, a really need some help on this one bacause im not a very experienced painter. thank you

and i forgot to write what im trying to achieve here. i hope i can express myself in English.
the idea is that people need to believe in some divine form of life so that they have something to live for. they want to achieve salvation. other people try to exploit that fact and use them for their personal purposes. the priest in this piece is this kind of man. he tells the people that he is the link between the divine being and them and so he convinces them that whatever he sais that is the will of that being. and since they want to believe in what they believe they have to obey their master not to make their god angry. im trying to show the result of this kind of relation in the piece.
i hope i have explained it in the right way

i've spent some time on working on the master. i was experimenting with some skin tones and brush properties and this is the result. before i was jzust using soft brushes but i was advised not to do that because the pictures looked smudgy.
i still dont know how i should paint the background, i should make some research.

Oooh! Very interesting stuff going on here... This is what I mean; good concepts being explored well... Certain parts of the skin tones are working really well! If you want advice, I guess I'd say get a base colour of skin tone down first, it doesn't have to be all one shade, and later work in the details. Shade and form first, details later. :)

Thank you so much for your reply and advice, Aly. I really, really aprieciate it. Now im trying to block the shapes of the whole image and skip the colouring and shading for the moment.
Thanks again

i have been working more on the shapes of the background and perspective. im going to base my further painting on this concept so i decided this should be my line art.

Intriguing! Who is the gray person in the background? A statue or someone standing in a doorway?

Be careful with the composition - right now, you've cut off the feet of the two submissive figures, and the guy with the gold is leading the eye out of the picture. I'm not sure, but it might help to expand the canvas a bit, to let the cut-off feet back in, and add some space to the left of the rich guy.

marcheen
03-25-2005, 06:21 PM
liiga, i was also begginig to worry about the feet of the servants getting out of the picture and was also thinking about making the canvas bigger. well now i will expand it for sure, thank you;)

and obout the eyes of the master- that is to be fixed later on

and the statue represents some kind of god that the servants believe in. the priest (the master) claims to be the link between him and the servants and he is using that to use them for his purposes.
thank you again;)

i've been trying to add some colors and expanded the canvas a bit. i'm still not sure how the priest's clothes should look like to make him more interesting. i also thought that maybe i should make the statue alive and about to strike and punish the priest for beeing so greedy and for exploiting the believers. this could bring so action to the image bacause i think maybe it's too static... still not sure if that's how the temple should look like. i would appreciate any advice crits or comments. thank you

Really like the idea of animating the statue somewhat, even if it's just really subtle. Like the way you're headed with this...cool!

what are the line that create the rules of your work?
thing before you see, the bakground of everything is the concept and the relation of the object in your scene... here ... not perspective maybe you must change your point of view... control you "camera" and show us the emotionaly beyond the facial expresion and the body... that envolve all the scene this emotion of avarice and tirany... rules your work... see some films that you can fell this emotion whit out actors just whit the scene you tell the concept... whit the perspective and the relations of the objects, etc. this go up the facial expresion.
is just my opinion...

PD: excuse my english please. :)

i've decided to change the composition a bit because the last one was very simetrical and boring. this time i'm trying to focus on the characters more and not making the background as large as before. i'm not sure if the new angle is better or if the characters are drawn correctly... any suggestions and chritics are most welcome. that would help a lot

but i wud suggest spacing out the characters a bit more, they seem a bit squashed in.

i moved the servant on the left more to the left. i'm not sure if i'll stick to these colours. i just wanted to block some kind of shapes because it's easier to move on like that. still dont have a clear idea about the background. i'm wondering whethere i should put a painting or a sculpture of a god to make clear that it is some kind of temple. any help and suggestions are very welcome. take care

Hi
like the concept, so realistic,
think that first sketch is better needs a different angle, and like Liiga said
master is pulling your eye of the picture, if you try to see this from the left side
kind like you move camera this would make composition more dynamic,
the master would be more prominent, and I think the statue in the back was good idea
hopefully this helps :)

some composition changes. Korline, thanks for your suggestions. i am going to put a statue in the back hope this angle isn't as boring as the first one. this composition i'm the most satisfied with so far. i hope this works.

this is looking much better marcheen, excellent improvement, keep goin!

Korline
04-16-2005, 05:58 PM
much better, you can do this from ether side does not has to be from the left
I just like left cause it's me and your eye always wants to go the right first so its kind of trick
cause forces you to go the other way, symmetrical on the other hand is good with the closeups
but when you look at the things I mean everything even from slide distance you'll never be at the dead center
it's just not natural
yeah looks way better,
another thing is now characters are getting lost in whole image, so maybe if you crop this down third from the top
and a bit from the right you would've pretty good layout, cause you do want to focus on the characters
you don't really have to se the whole room and the statue your mind will add this, another suggestion is fish eye lens
it's distort the proportion but it gives strong psychological effect, the light is cool but you have to watch the source
and how affects the characters, when you out and about just squint your eyes so it's gets all blurry, the you can see lights and shadows :)

thanks for words encouragment NOOB! and Jarek. you are right about the characters. rhey are getting lost there and they are very important in this case so i enlarged them a bit. the prist's expression is especially important. i hope it will be visible. i spent 2 days getting this composition. i know it sounds stupid but composing is difficult for me for now. but anyway we'll see maybe i'll make a different angle. for now i will color this one. thanks again.

Hey there, nice concept! I like the colours so far, but I think you should make it a little bit darker maybe, the interior a little bit shadowier. As it seem it is times when there was no artificial lighting, then the interior should be a tad big darker, I think you could add some torches or smth like that for additional light source. The master is very cool! I like the composition. Keep working :D Good luck!

marcheen
04-18-2005, 08:20 PM
thank you Edite! i was actually thinking about making the image darker since the concept isn't exactly happy. i need to play with colors more. and i like the idea with torches. i'll try to fit them somwhere maybe near the statue. and i should make the statue hidden in the gloom so it doesn't stick out like that.
thanks again!

Nice progress Marcin. Good thing you changed concepts the new one is a lot better. Have you thought about getting in a little closer with the composition. The charactes are realy small now. Maybe lower the ceiling and make the statue behind him a bit smaller..you'll get in a lot more details then.

04-24-2005, 11:44 PM
Hey nice progress, Marcheen! Really like the new composition. Are you still planning to animate the statue? The new priest design is much more evil...love it. Only suggestion is whether you might consider a slightly closer crop to make the scene more personal...it might make more of the interplay between the priest and his servants... his expression is so sinister it would be a shame to lose it by panning out so far. Great work, will keep watching this progress.

3dRaven, redfrog, thanks for your comments and kind words of encouragment. i know that the characters are too small now. maybe i'll crop it later. but i'm getting too attached to the composition. i want to have some clouds, i want to have the statue, the ornaments but that propabily won't work. or maybe i'll add more servants... and i don't want to animate the statue anymore. it just will be a part of the background.
anyway this is another update. i was mainly experimenting with different brushes and shapes. i am going to change the design of the columns into something "original". these are too boring...

3dRaven, thank you. yes that sky is strange now. it is a result of my experiments with new brushes and i kind of like it like that. i'll just add more details to it. and actually it's not that low because i this is'n ground floor of the temple. i just have to come up with something to indicate the sense height. make a balcony maybe...

Marcin go with what you think is right. If you feel the other project will give you more satisfaction than go with it. It all depends on what the end goals are......go for the one your more comfortable with.

I guess your last submission is the best, I really like the overall composition and feeling. But my advice is to make your figures bigger or crop the environment a little bit. This way viewer can read your composition easier. My first reading was the architecture and the statue instead of master-servant figures. I would kill those nice environments for the sake of to make my theme more readable. Anyways, just my two cents. Keep up the good work.
