Stephan Theunissen has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/view_entries.php?challenger=5884)

Latest Update: Final Image: Passed the line
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/5884/5884_1116370370_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/5884/5884_1116370370_large.jpg)

So here it is the final image & story:

Once upon a time there lived a wise & brave mage. He helped where ever he could and soon became respected amongst the people. But one day he heard of a cloak with great powers. It was said that the owner of the cloak would become irresistible to the people. He would be the most loved creature in the known worlds but it all came different. The cloak itself tricked the mage and he became slave of this artefact. Since than no one knows which fortune this creature is but one thing is for sure this is a all-in-one master & servant solution...

Thx everyone for supporting me during this contest... and if you did not catch the meaning of all this... don`t worry the wine flowed like water

Hi everyone...

after a big system crash and a total rearrangement of my harddisk I decided to go with modeling into a personally new terrain (ZBrush2).

So I re-created the cloak and did some detailing. Finally I put some CS Dummies ontop of the cloak to get a feeling for the dimensions.

C&C are welcome...

Your sketch looks a little 'Giger' in style - a very good thing! You are also sticking close to your original concept which is nice to see.

I hope to drop by again soon and check on your progress. So far so good, an interesting looking start. Good luck!

I made a mistake with the former milestone it was meant to be a modelling one :) anyway here is some more of the modelling workflow...

1.) CS Dummie to get the right position
2.) A rough boxmodelling in 3DS Max
3. ) The ZBrush Output

I wasn`t very pleased with my first output so I went back to 3DS Max and refined the low poly mesh a bit more. I took it back to Zbrush again and did the detailing.

I`ll try to get most of the modeling job done this weekend but... will see. Crits & comments are always welcome...

heya man, nice entry

you have a very interesting design in the works, I have no crits on the modeling everything looking A-1 there. but you may want to change the lighting a bit, try a very bright overhead back light with a dim to black light in the front I think more of a darker look in the lighting would suit this peace.

that's just my 2'cent, great stuff PS: reminds me of some old hindu statues

Hi all... I started to texture the scene. I also figured out that it counted way to much polys for a clean unwrap process in 3DMax so I painted the whole texture of the cloak in ZBrush with the help of stencils I created in Photoshop... nice work around and reminds me a bit of the good old airbrushing days... c&c welcome

Here are the render layers I produced to finally put them in PS together again...

So finally these are the last tweaks... some glow effect on the eyes and blured some render artefacts in PS... think this will also be the final image since there is no time left...

Stephan - really excellent image! I like it a lot! Great work with Zbrush - so cool that you took this project to learn the software and that you were able to get so much out of it. Right on :)

Very mysterious image, interesting hands interaction, especially if you look at horns and servant head, upside down.
Good Luck!

Thx everyone for your kind words... it helped me a lot finishing this "short" contest. Boy, this is stress... I really thought about giving up this contest thing and start of some own WIP thread in CGtalk. I never make it to the point where I am satisfied with my final image.

I never make it to the point where I am satisfied with my final image.

I think that goes for many of us right now... ending a challenge is both frustrating and liberating at the same time, and then there are all the ideas on how to do it instead :)

I hope in some days you'll be happy with your final - I like it! The concept and idea is very intriguing and mysterious and the textures ... simply wonderful. You've done a great job with this, I'm a bit sad I didn't follow it better - ah, well there will be more challenges, right?

Congrats for finishing in great style and good luck

Hi Stephan,

Thanks for your drop in my thread! I missed your final, but it's great mate! The symbolism of your image works fine with your script of final. The overall has a fine balance! Powerful but not too "loud"! There will be no voting as i now, so we only have to wait for the final results... Have a nice day!

Nice. Reminds me of the scifi book covers that were popular when I was a kid in the late seventies. (that's a good thing :D ) Good luck with the judging!
