I'm kidding you of course.... Thank you very much my dear friend ! :thumbsup:
I gonna try to do the best I can ! :bounce:
So, I'm going to write the script this night... after that serious work gonna start !:)
03-24-2005, 10:58 PM
Here is the temporary title of my picture for this challenge ! The title is the concept and will be incorporated in the final picture.
I'm just going to explain the story in few lines before doing and uploading a final script.
::: THE STORY :::
"Le morceau de roi" :Explaining the title for non-french people : It's a french title that mean literally : "The king piece of food", witch means a delicious and noble piece of food !
Why this title : This is the name of the restaurant I gonna make in my picture. So the title gonna be on the sign of the restaurant into the picture.
The comp : The picture gonna be divided into 3 parts as as in a comics strip.
On the top: The surface, the city, the restaurant.
On the bottom : The underground, with first room and a second little one.
First script : It's a rainy dark night, only few and pointed lights are lighting this "gloomy" and sticky athmosphere. The glaucous city seems to be quite but to quite so scary, one may see in the background, big dark clouds, and a mix of crane stylised building, cross and craves. In front of a stange restaurant (an old russian/gothic building disguised into a classy 30's parisian restaurant) named "Le morceau de Roi" (in english : "The king piece of food"), a Famous, rich and extravagant character is going out of his limo (a sort "louis XIV" limo, totally anachronistic vehicule, a tuned limo ;-), he has the look of ridiculous but proud king, with make up and lots of manners. Tiny and ugly servants (sort of frankenstein characters, scarified, made of human pieces and stylised because of there function), are helping that charcater going out of his limo. One is holding an umbrella in order to protect this guest of mark of rain, an other one is clearing the way during one more is pointing out the entrance of the restaurant to the character... and more...
Near the entrance of the restaurant, a groom, dry, strange red almond eyes, with an hard and nasty face, is opening the door.
Into the underground, a dark shadowed evil is eating marvelous food, but human meat, king meat.. human membres are hung to walls, corpses are on the floor, and in a corner a big masters and king crowns pile. Near that room, an other little room witch is the evil kitchen were servants are cooking human meat.
::: END :::
Explaination ! This is why I choose that ambivalent title : "Le morceau de Roi" (The king piece of food), because of the trap made by the real master, not that ridiculous faked king on the surface, but the other one, the evil in his cave (the underground of the restaurant, the restaurant witch is just a cover in order to attract his preys)... The trap is explained in the title ! ;-)
::: Why ? :::
Servant and master relationships ! Who's the real master ? Whose master servants are serving ? Masters eating masters ? Master May be a servant too ? Thus, I wanna play on the inversion of statues and roles into a strange dark and just a little bloody picture ! ;-)
::: Artistic :::
Semi-realistic picture, very contrasted into lighting, with bright areas and very dark areas. Very desaturate picture with just few choosed colors, like red for the underground. I wanna have stylised character too, with hard edges and marked faces, trash comics characters types, very characteristics people. With the 3 parts of the comp' I wanna make a real story as in a comics but without any squares... Floor and wall are separating différent rooms which compose the picture !
::: Technical :::
Using Maya for 3D part, Photoshop for textures and post FX, compositing and final colors.
Making the scene into 3 scenes (one scene for one room), render into passes (shadows, lights, specular... etc) and with layers too. Than composited in photoshop !
That's all for the moment !
03-24-2005, 11:11 PM
This is the first rough layout, in order to explain the different parts of my picture and the frame !
03-24-2005, 11:18 PM
hey 'golden-rectangle'! a good start to any compostion.
03-25-2005, 12:07 AM
Here is the first sketch for my challenge, the first character I may see clearly in my brain ! This is the Groom at the entrance of the "le morceau de roi" restaurant !
Other sketchs and rough layout gonna come !
03-25-2005, 12:31 AM
nothing more... :)
a nice concept for ur picture Mr Wakka :thumbsup:
par contre l'idée des 3 images je sais pas trop si ca correspond à ce qu'on attend pour ce genre de challenge, généralement il n'y qu'une image ... enfin j'ai peut etre pas tous compris ... peut etre que ton idée est de faire comme si on regardais un décors en coupe ... ;-)
03-25-2005, 12:52 AM
Yes, of course, c'est ça ! :thumbsup: the idea, is that the camera is shooting the topground, the street and the restaurant and at the same time, the underground, the cave of the restaurant, the separation between the differents roomq are the wall and the floor... As a comics but without any square !... it's just the set that makes squares and so separation... but you may read it as a comics, even if each action in square are différent, you know, it's not a comics story with differents shots !...
Glad to see you like the concept ! :) et puis tu sais j'aime bien faire des chose qu'on attend pas ! :bounce:
03-25-2005, 12:58 AM
Here is an other servant speed sketch test... I try to found the good idea in order to make a style to decline it to deferent servants !
03-25-2005, 01:47 AM
Ok, now, it's the last sketch I post for this week ! And this is the famous character, the king that gonna have a sad destiny ! :-)
I'm waiting your comments ! Now I'm going In Week-end... I promise I gonna draw more and better for sure, but next week ! See ya !
03-25-2005, 07:00 AM

03-30-2005, 05:55 PM
It seem's to be a good concept, isnt'it? A little bit fuzzy for the moment but I'm sure that the artist has a good vision of his stuff... j'ai hate de voir ce que ça va donner but there's a lot of work to do =)
Nice Rough; I like your Waka Style :thumbsup:
03-30-2005, 07:43 PM

Vivement demain alors... allez on se motive... hop hop hop... :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: and don't forget... make us dream with yout talent :thumbsup:
03-31-2005, 07:36 PM
The final rough (china ink made) of my "master and servant" scene.
The interraction of the topground and the underground gonna be better in the final scene, not so cut. The cave gonna appear the cave of the restaurant.
I cannot see clearly the real Evil Master so I haven't drawn him. I wanna In shadows one, One with a very big stomac, quasi a stomac ! I want that spectators may imagine there own monster ! But I'm still looking for a nice design during I'm modelling the other characters !
Rough Caption :
1- The fake king that gonna be eat by the monster !
2- The servants ! One type of servant (sort of frankenstein/zombie servant), then decline into multiples servants)
3- The "majordome", groom of the restaurant, with very dark red evil eyes !
4- The real master, Fat, eating kings ! Tatooed I think... Into the dark of his cave.
That's all for the moment ! First modeling will come : The king at the surface, other character design and an organisation diagram.
The set and the limo gonna be more stylised ! :-)
Cheers ! ;-)
03-31-2005, 07:51 PM

04-08-2005, 04:48 PM
Here it's the final modeling of the king's head... I clear the mesh, enhance the modeling details, and change few details and general shape !
I'm now using the default scanline render of Maya, I was previously using Mental Ray for Maya, but I'm ill at ease with that Render (MR) so... And I found the rendering better, cause I like very contrasted pictures ("clair-obscure" pictures !), with dark shadows and bright lights !
That's all. Tha body is coming ! I'm looking for a technic in order to make the hair and mustaches of my charater. I don't know the one I gonna use and witch what sor t of style !
To be continued...
04-08-2005, 07:45 PM
Great model, it looks really fun to model
04-09-2005, 01:50 AM

Talk about a bad hair day I have often had to shave an unruley beard like that. his, not yours.
the mauve into violet is super. There is a good deal of feeling that you have put into his countenence. He leaves us guessing as to what he is thinking. The Bard once said though he was a villin he smiled and smiled>> but then what is he then thinking? The affect is one where you keep us guessing. That is good you can then keep that knowledge from us untill the adventure of going through the plot brings us to that point. Tawneycocker
