Ui, this last one is very very cool. Itīs like the little catty in her hand has just being summoned. I agree with everyone else: Thereīs more kittens needed! Maybe even unfinished ones. This is just getting better and better:thumbsup: .

Wunderschön! :) Ich kann die nächste Version kaum noch erwarten. Bleib drann, Benita!

Wow, very cute and very talented work!
Will keep track of your work.
It is a very good concept, I can even 'see' a deeper forest behind her with some 'lightlike' spot creatures flying. :)

Good luck !

Very nice painting on the cats. I admit, this is a lot better than the first one and i like where you place the cats too. It has a nice flow to the eyes. The only thing i can say is maybe bump up the contrast of the overall piece. It needs a bit more value range. Keep it coming  HEy, are those floating fur balls? :D

Spin99: on the way :)

Djampa: thanks a lot! :) iīm glad you like the concept!

Arc80: oh yes the contrast.. i adjusted my monitor to maximum bright, because i always tend to work with colors which are too dark.. i will switch up the contrast when iīm ready with the main work..
the white furry things in the bush/air are going to be willow catkins or cotton balls or some other material which is suitable to create fluffy little ones :)

xric7: thanks!! :)

Hi! You're updating fast lately! Cool hehe
the kittens look great! But I'm not so sure about the composition.
The column on the left side takes some room and makes the whole painting..hmm
kind of narrow...if it's the right word.

I also would like to see more depth in the whole painting. Your first concept had
a lot more space. Just a thought....

But anyways it's coming along great!
go go go!

So you decided and are going on?

Well wise a choice it seems. The theme is looking very good.
the wall behind her now suggests an existance of secret garden of some sort. An isolated area she needs to plea for her own. I think you have also captured your initial intention also.

What I am enjoying the most about the updates would probably be the button eyed kittens... with their still fragile cartilage bodies. The way you had the fur carry on them makes them so much more fragile looking.. so more 'infant' to compair to the cliché chubby little kittles.

Concept or no concept. The image is very magical and extremely beautiful!

it looking really good benita. your cats are cute! i think you should look at the overall contrast of the image tho. work on bringing the out the shapes with a greater range of shades. esp. because you have what could be quite strong light sources. mb i can do a sketch for you?
good luck with it :D

the berry bush looked sad before, but now that you added
the furballs to it, it looks enchanting and mysterious.
Keep up te good majik ;)

Goro: the composition is what really bothers me most.. but itīs only so little time left.. and i want to get ready somehow.. so as long as there is no better idea arising i think i have to stick with this one.. but iīm planning to rework the background after the main work with the kitties and girl is done.. right now iīm trying to motivate myself a little by allowing myself to work on the funpart (the kitties) :D
the "problem" with the background is that it should not be too dominant.. the main focus has to stay in the foreground.. so if i put too much details in the trees in the back (or more lights) it will destract the view i think..

any suggestions are most welcome and appreciated!!

Black: iīm glad you like the fragile look of the furry little ones! :)

arlutik: thanks! iīm glad you like it! :)

joe: feel free to do so! as i explained before: the composition is not ready yet and any inspirations are most welcome - itīs always interesting to see through someone else eyes.. :) *waiting for the overpaint* :D

squibbit: glad you like it!! (and i havenīt forgotten the cat-symbol-carved-arm-decoration-jewellery :))

Hi Benita
Very nice work on the kitties:arteest:
A little crit about your background : i'm not quite sure abou the square column on the left.
It seems too much hard, cold... not comfortable for a witch that creates furry creatures.
i may think that cats would prefer some warm and comfortable place

And you have 17 days left, keep going on

Miyagu

Hi again!

Yes you're right not much time left. Well I didn't mean to detail the background more.
It just need more depth. So I did another overpaint to show you what I mean.
I think you could gain some time by removing the column.

1. The tree on the left side was way too dark and took a lot of space. So I replaced
it with some smaller trees and free space.

2. You still have a overall lighting problem. The viewer can't figure out where the light
is coming from. So I tweaked the lighting a little bit not to change too much. I've found
this light glow in here hands so I thought it would be cool when there is some light coming
out of her hands. I made the highlight areas of the kittens brighter and the shadow
areas darker. Now you can feel that there is actually "light".

3. There were a some value problems. The foreground was partially brighter than the background and with less contrast. Normally the bg is slightly brighter and with less contrast.
So I darkened the foreground and lightened up the BG.

4. The column was bothering me as I said already. I think it's disturbing the composition.

5. I changed also the format just a tiny little bit do get more space in the painting.
It's a bit more horizontal now. I just wanted to get rid of the narrow feeling.

I hope this will help.
And I'm really glad you kept the old hairstyle!

Hi Benita, just take care you donmt overdue the darkening of your piece, the hard contrasts somehow are maybe a bit too hard now, love the pastellic dreamlike feel of your work, much if it would get lost in the black. Keep it up! love your work:love:

Squibbit: hahaha! your sweet! :) the purple pillow will stay ;-)

GhostInTheMachine: thanks! i see.. i like the little sparkles on the furballs.. and the extra attention on the kitty in her hand.. i was wondering if the theme would be clearer if i would place a half-furball-half-kitty thing in her hand instead of a finished kitty-one.. like in one of the scribbles before, where it was floating in the air.. to make clear that she creates them.. i donīt know.. or maybe a few sparkles around the one in her hand will suffice.. thereīs a lot of work ahead :D thanks again for taking the time! :)

sacha: thanks a lot! i just came back from your entry once again.. very glad you like my work  :)

Hey Benitta its looking beautiful. There is a very delicate feel to the whole thing, one small bit of personal advice, I think its a bit too dark. Maybe you might want to warm her up a bit with some warmer tones, or even cooler tones. Its just looking a little between the two at the moment. Great piece overall anyway, Good luck!!

Huh? No more kitties

Ok, now seriously.
I think you're letting the magical fairy tale element slip.
She's supposed to be a mystical cat sorceress, in the enchanted forest?
There's plenty human sorceresses, for sure? Most aren't elves I think(hee hee)
Never mind the pest shamans and things..

So I loved it when you added more trees :)
The new composition I like, the old one was also ok(?)
But.. please don't lose the magical element to it??

Personally:

* I think nude is nicest, but ok..

* The dress she has on now is perfect for a dinner date (?)

* She needs the sorceress/fairy enchanted forest clothing!! Please?

;)

Wow! awesome stuff! Haven't noticed this thread before :) It's sure looking great. Have you thought about adding vertical "lians" hanging from the tree, it would make it more mystical I think, and the upper right seems abit empty atm.

This new background is real good. A bit more highlight in some of the leaves would look good as a 'rays of the sun comming through' type thing. Unless you dont intend for light to be sneakign abit through there...then maybe some more shadow? To bring out the light going on the main characters. I saw the work on the cats too; love the shadow job on them. Its makes it seem more real with the different variety of contrast :)

Woow.. lovely details!

I also love the 'fairy-tale' way you rendered out the little kitten in her palm. It all looks so beautiful.
I would say that your entry is most definately a human woman!.. What other species would go through the trouble of changing their hair so often in such a short period.

There is little I would like changed from what the image is turning int to now. I think the one thing that I would like to see a bit diffrent is the dress.. to sort of have it even more thin and skin like.. to a point that you are not sure when it is the colth and when not other than the set of sparkles in it's folds or the bordering and it's straps.

Still it is beautiful.. just beautiful

Those are Somali cats! Somalis! :scream: I should know since I was obsessed with them at some point... and you can't blame me.. they are gorgeous! Abissinians are similar too I think...can't remember..

Your rendition of them is very beautiful. Infact, I actually went through the whole thread mostly because of them( that took me a looong while).

Beside to say that your work looks great, the detailing is amaaazing and I can't wait to see it finished... and that judging by the skills you demonstrated that you know what you're doing... I have a few comments (after reading the long thread :wise: )

1- You are absolutely right; Auto-pilot is the way to go and over thinking kills stuff..

2- Peeples seemed to have problems with the material she was using from the beginning. While no one seemed to have mentioned it, I thought that she molded them out of clay made alot of sense; in both the way she was holding the cat, the ease of shaping and the availability( she could take it from the lake next to her). I couldn't understand the use of rock, wood, or candle wax. The final idea also makes much sense since she's using fluffy stuff to make fluffy stuff(and it's available).

3- Never panic, You are extremley talented and capable(from what I can tell), peeples's suggestions are their thoughts about what they see when they look at it. They can be very helpful, but shouldn't be something you worry too much about or panic over.

4- Having said that, I thought that the variations your piece went through because of it was very interesting :) and I hope that it helped you develop as an artist.

Again, beautiful somalis, wonderfully rendered image and I'm eagerly anticipating the final piece.

Wishing you the best

ok.. here is some work on the whole image.. i fixed stuff in the background.. added a lot of different textures to the tree by painting every single bark and then blurred it.. the tree is going to have some final crisp sparkling lights on it where itīs hit by the "magic" light of her hands.. the lights.. havenīt worked on that because i want to finish the background first.. then iīm going to make the kitties fit in better and fix the light-problem on the magician girl.. oh and iīm going to try some different clothes on her.. the final touch will be some lightsparkles around the kitties
oh and for the special tool.. i donīt know if itīs necassary for the story. i added some splints at the end of a few treetrunks where she has torn of the catkins.. is this visible enough?

just saw your own work: beautyful sketching. itīs so little time left but maybe you can finish it anyway.. itīs sooo important to finish something.. when i first started painting i always painted eyes and elve-faces.. (and in the very early years: horses.. :D) lousy backgrounds (if at all..) so i come to like the feeling of having a deadline because you HAVE to finish till then.. once again thanks for taking the time, good luck!

This is looking lovely, Benita! The colors, the background, the detailing on her clothes, all great. The glow on her hand and the cat is perfect for tying them together. It took me a minute to figure out what that file of fur on the ground by her kneee was... Cat fur? Cat skulls? I eventually made the connection between the stuff growing on the trees, but sharpening and brightening them in the trees could help strengthen the connection. And have you considerred maybe having one or two seperate from the pile, so that it might make it easier to see that it is in fact a pile and here are some of the individual pieces that make up the pile?

Anyhow, this has really come together nicely, good work!

Nice that you chose the forest background in the end.

Also about the catkins - they look better now.
I found them a little off putting in the first pile with little eyes and everything *yuckers* :scream:

They seem to look better now :p
Maybe you could make them even more fluffy kind of thing.
They do look like they were picked - but again I think this idea would benefit more
if you made the picked plants more fluffy-like and less cat like (?)

She's coming along really nicely ;)

Your picture has been one of my favorite since the beginning, and it's getting better and better as time passes. The mood is awesome (wonderful colors), you drew the cutest kittens ever and I really like the sick looking girl :D
A tiny tiny comment though: the hand holding the kitten is a bit... strange (for lack of a better word). If you try to put your fingers in the same position as the girl's ones, you'll see that the ring finger will rise a little. Or maybe you could lower the middle finger. Hmm, I'm not sure my explanation is very clear.
In any case, this is a great piece of art. Can't wait to see it finished

Very nice work on the cats and I love the changes with the new fabric of her clothes. The branches are very wispy and forlorn...I LOVE THIS!

Nice work! I'm very much looking forward to the finished piece!

Ah! New updates, new avatar... what else could a fanboy ask for? LOL

Love the updates... I still get that amazed and giggly feeling whenever I look at the girl's pose... so natural and relaxed. Brilliant. And ooooh, those fluffy wuffy wittle kitties... my wife would REALLY appreciate them, ha ha ha (I'm not much of a cat lover, but I try). Anyway, you've painted them wonderfully. They LOOK really soft.

Keep going... you gotta be close to finishing now, yes?

Amazing. The genious is in the your cats and the woman, the forest however is amazingly underdetailed. You are capable of doing more with it I'm quite sure. No offense of-course.

And don't be afraid... I watch your picture few long minutes... that don't make me think to eat indian food or some other sorts of meditations... sincerly not at all...

The first thought when I'm watching your picture... is the relation between her and the cat... and the many questions concerning this relation... and on what will occur then...

What happened here?! A LOT of changes!!!

But I am sort of glad to have the forestry back... Actually I would hope you don't change what you have here.. the light you are hitting on her face is literally perfect!
nd the depth of the foreground to compair to the background is perfectly distinguished.. I think I have simply posted an "I like" to every change you have done.. that shows how usefull I am now doesn't it?

But I really liked it!

looking good, i really like the quality you have achieved with her skin, as with her facial expression. one thing im curious about, is whether or not you will keep that turquoise/green glow outside the edges of the girl... i think that the halo effect is taking away from the overall image and kills depth. what i mean is the image becomes too flat. i realize that you need some kind of glow as she is doing something magical, but maybe a glow only underneath her hand? i dont know, just a suggestion. otherwise, looking great!
