No man... only 1gb ram... but Maya manage very well the memory... and I don't use in this case Mental Ray or an another renderer which want a lot of memory...
And another point, I start renders in command line, without maya open, that save a lot memory too.
My computer is a bi-PIII800... I do 9 differents rendering, and the longer take approximatively 17 hours (mother nature + appliances + humano-IDs + ground)... less for the other 8 renders... :scream: the render time total certainly not exceed 25 hours... I don't rest in front of the screen to waiting... hahah

Only 2mb ? Certainly cause you save with a compression... without, that will be bigger and better...
Your size 3500x2500 give normally a weight of 25mb... but if you save in TIF but with a JPG compression at 8 or 9... you will certainly have a weight inferior to 3mb... but with medium quality of image...

For this format saved in TIF... a weight of 27.6 mb is normal...
And it's totally normal that winzip can't permit you to save some weight... in your picture, you don't have interpolation of pixels... no algorythm to optimize the picture... each pixel have it own description... :) for sure the explanation of this weight... 9 660 852 pixels !

HI guys.
I switched my brain on. :banghead:

I looked in max,and I did mistake and exported images from renderer in jpeg.
That gived me of total 75 DPI,and res of 2500X3500,which lead to small file size.
Now I exported image in tif,and you can set desireable DPI,I got it now.
Now my file weights 25 MB. :) :) For a moment,i got scared I'l have to render in 5000X7000 ,but thats history now, :bounce:

But How am I going to post this, with my degenerate net conection.:argh:
:hmm: I got it,I'l just go to univesity, they have fast net conections

Seeya guys,I got everything under control,,thx

AIR -> It's always better to do your renders in TIF or TGA or IFF... after, for the web by exemple, you can save in jpeg... but you lose print quality to win weight...

Alex -> I don't know if we receive immediately a feedback after upload... but if you see you r file of the CgTalk... that will be certainly good I think...

If you can find a better connection to upload... I think it's really better to send the file without compression... but If you don't have this possibility... try with compression... I don't know exactly if CgTalk guys are ok for that... to be sure, that's certainly better your ask to a moderator... sorry to don't know more...

Hmm.. Hard call..

I am in doubt between 9 and 11... I like the manner that they are more defined.
In all of them how ever the leaves in the foreground seem to be a bit exageratedly blurred.. too flat looking because of it... And this is most over powered on 11 to my humble opinion.

So I guess I would also go for 11.

It's your choice in the final run... Good Luck!

I think #10 could do the trick, but I'd like to see stronger contrast overall... more and darker darks, and more and brighter brights... the entire upper half of the left side of the image could be made softer and darker, less detailed, thus give more power to the remaining lower half and the entire right side... just test it :D

'mb -> Thanks Matt... then #11

Mosconariz -> sorry for the number of pages... hahaha... but #11 seem to be a good choice... thanks Frenando.

Agamemnwn -> #11 for you... ok Jannis, thanks.

BlackDidThis -> Thanks for remarks guy... then #11...

Calisto -> Thanks to take a visit here Linda.

DimitrisLiatsos -> Ok mate... I will do an ultimate test... with a thuner less strong !

James -> Well... I see actually a contrast a little bit strong for me, I don't think to give more bright to the brights... but I will try to give some dark to the left background part... the last test I think... Thanks James...

AlexFalchi -> Where I am ? hahahaha... as you know, week-end is only for family life... no computer, no 3d... then, remain me a couple of day to finish... but I think to take the final decision today... I don't must waiting the final hour to post my entry.

I'm waiting your final advice... and again thanks to you all... to be always here and moreover to take time to help me in my final way ;-)

hi laurent. :)
I downloaded the #11 and #12 tests and started going back and forth seeing both of them. In 12 the middleground ( mother nature and humanoids) comes more forward and distinguises itself more from the background and the foreground so u can see the lines from the branches in the end of head of mother nature and the lines of the humanoids more clearly but in the same time it looks like 2 dirrerent layers. If you see in the sides of the mother nature on the reebs you see that they are lit from behind with a rather strong light but in the same time the background is darker. the same goes for the humanoids and the overall middleground layer. The lightning looks dim in 12 and as i understand that you try to concentrate the viewers first glance to the main caracters and on the right, as you look closely to the picture you see that it differentiates from the other layers ( background, foreground). so i would go with #11 again. Great job Laurent, keep it up

This last one is better in my opinnion. The background distracts the eye from the characters in the last one. I'v got similar comment from the few people and fixed it in new version... :)

Thanks to you all... for the moment... If I understand well, a short head for the #12 version... I'm waiting a little bit... a maybe I do a very latest version... a simple mix between #11 at 35% and #12 at 65%...
...a #13 version :scream:

And now, to change a little, as ask me some friends, I will post a series of meshes snapshots of Maya Viewport...

good work Laurent! I like fog and the greens u used in final image - they are dark and uniqe making the image look calmly. therefore the lightning bothers me a little. I know my emotions in 'reading' the image can be different than you've planned they will, but that's how I see it.
and I see it calm, sad, melancholy. even depressing...
despite it or maybe thanks to it, you crafted one of the most excellent images of the contest. congratulations!

I've got only one question: it was told that one of the master/servant relationship characters should be human - are these forest dudes humans? ;)
It's more complicated... there's 2 relations...
- With the time, the human race come to be the servant of these electro-domestic appliances... it's the reason of their apparences... without sex, without ear and eyes... and certainly without brain...
- but Mother Nature was the creator of the Human Race, and she want to re-take her rights on them... by removing all these machines... they're nevertheless her servants and she's the Master...
Thanks for your interest

Little resume of the story :

With time, the human race it is controlled to the profit of the domestic appliances, taking control on them. The men have undergoes a change and became these Humano-IDs, unsexued, deprived of any sense and any thought. They're differentiable between them only by the bare code that they are in the back. Their existence is entirely devoted to these machines. Mother Nature will try to take again her rights. The rights which she had on these humans who she gave birth to, by disencumbering surface of the ground of all these electro-domestics appliances.

RRRaaaa YES :bounce:tu y as pensé!

Well as i already did tell you, imho the final (more realistic) render is more efficient for the subject but i can't stop loving this final gathering render ! So happy you though of it, plus it's a long render time so.... :bowdown:thanks alot

Ok sorry not enough time so i'll go in french for this time...

Uge congrats for this (thoose) images, I'll be proud when i'll produce such images... if I do...

Terrific, detailed & symbolic illustration, good job  The only crit I have of your last image is the lightning in the background looks a bit blurry. Even if lightning gets a lot of dof blurring, it still stays relatively bright, so maybe you could brighten/sharpen it up a bit.

Kylebrn
05-17-2005, 10:37 PM
Good finish,a good idea,and a congtratulations from this guy.
I have a couple gripes. You can probably still fix one of them,Like matt says the lightening is off.In my opionion the lighting looks way too flat. The lighteng should be very vibrant,a real flash
There is no vibrant look to it.It should illuminate the Mother nature tree. That would have been effective. You can do this in PS,you know that.
Also the upper left corner is dead, the dark tree and all,the whole upper left portion of the picture is dead, just darkness.I think you could have brought the mother nature tree to the center of the picture, made ot even larger, cut out that dead space. This would have cut out that dark dead area in your picture on the left side.
In fact all should circle mother nature, why is she off to the side off center, she should be in the direct center of the picture,as in nature Mother nature is at the center of all things, and here she is off center why?
Well, easy to say here,to do is another thing.I still think it turned out good, and I wish you luck in voting.:)

shtl -> I'm happy you lke the final picture... and this one "in rose"... thanks for this good comment. When I read that, I know one of the 2 reasons I do 3d and pictures... In first, there's the pleasure of the creativity, and in second, the incredible feedback, and that, it's very great for me...

I know, there's a lot of different messages in this pictures... comic, serious, sad, visionary, etc... finally, I prefer that each person see the message with their own feeling... some many differents people for so many different feeling... that's the better I think... and why not... we can only see a picture... without messages, just a picture, for the eyes pleasure...

Merci Corentin. :arteest:

goktug -> Thanks... :thumbsup:

Gulliver3 -> Merci l'ami... à bientôt ;)

Vampeta -> It's very nice if you like to discover all these details, thanks for your words Alex. :)

Fred76 -> Thanks copain... for the results... nothing is sure... but for the beer... it's really true

Gpepper -> 3dp2p ?? hahahaha Gilles... thanks for sharing your humour... hahahahaha :banghead:

'mb -> I think that I had many very different opinions for this lightning, and this is the last choice, it's especially a personal taste, this image is more iconic than realistic, and I didn't want to leave a too great importance with this flash. Even if I had decided from the very start to do one of them, it's not a determining element in the concept. I think that you understand my point of view, and for sure, thanks for your advices... and another time, let me congrats you for your incredible entry.

Kylebrn -> As I said previously to Matt... this lightning is not the most important thing in the scene, and I prefer keep it like that... visible, but not too much. This lightning is a bit far... it don't have to illuminate so much Mother Nature...

You wrote the left part is dead, dark... it's a real choice... a contrast between a sad and dark environment... representing the sad life... with this Mother Nature, who try to take her right, and save her children, these Humano-ID's...

There's also a reason for the Mother Nature place in the scene... she's not the only one important subject here... two concepts of Master/Servant...

- Appliances are the masters of these Humano-IDs

- Mother Nature want to come the real master of the Humano-IDs, of the human race..

More centered, we lose a part of the story I think... and that will be only presentation of a tree which resembles to a woman, only... here, I've trying to do a real scenery... not a simple presentation...

But I know one thing, our images can't be appreciate by everybody... and I respect so much your remark Kylebrn, and thanks to take time to comment here... seeya... :wavey:

Wildwire -> Thanks a lot Ralf

Bealobo -> I'm happy you like my picture... really... thanks a lot

Laurent Antoine Lemog (Lolo)......

So you have come to the end of the long winding road.........

I believe you have accomplished what you set out to do.I hope you feel you have reached you're intended goal and showed you're vision as you wanted........... The symbolic image too me depicts the theme of M&S very well......

I sure hope the Human Id's realize that there is much more than appliances and man made machines, and look towards Mother nature more in the future.......:arteest:

You have shown a very nice image with meaning and substance.......and kept it within the un-mistakable style and feel of a "lemog" creation.....

I wish you all the best in the challenge,I believe you will do well,And in all else you set out for.......I will always look forward to more imaginative creations from you both here in the challenges and elsewhere......

Until later Lolo, best of luck and all the best as always.......You're friend Michael.......:arteest:

Que ce soit un exercice de mémoire ou un travail de documentation, grand est cet effort !
Et il t'honore sûrement de milliers de reconnaissances de chacun de nous !

How it is a exercise of memory or a work of documentation, great east this effort !
And it surely honours you with thousands of recognitions of each one of us!

P.S. I have just seen me that I missed with all my duties: I thus introduce my partner to you: Gaelle Falcon which is not other than misstress
