hey,good luck,lets seem sum stuff!
I'm really excited to start this challenge, and still don't know where will it end, but I'd like to paint something related with Don Quixote; Imo, one of the best relationships between master and servant. Let's see where does it lead me to...
sketching & doodling
sketching & doodling
Garment & armour studies
This idea is growing up: how interesting when the master needs the help of the servant! I'd like to develope this concept.
First attempt for Sancho. Not proud of it.
03-28-2005, 09:38 AM
yeah nice concept sketching... u got a sweet idea already in Q-sketch05
...would be cool seing those sketches drawn on "old" yellow paper like the drawings from that time... u got a suiting style for it =) ahell looks good no matter what
03-28-2005, 09:54 AM
Until now i don't find it very original as the characters, and even some positions come directly from the leonardo series number 35, the basics of comics volume 3. So I would like to see more of your own style. Keep it up man!
Unless of course you are the creator of the dessigns in from te book ;)
Hello, Bruce. I don't know what comic are you talking about, but for sure I'd like to see that stuff. I'm mostly inspired by the Gustave Dore work. Do yuo have anyu URL where I can see that Leonardo drawings?
Anyway, this is a very early attempt to sketch a vast concept. For sure it won't end like it started.
03-28-2005, 12:34 PM
Hi, it's not a comic, but a book to learn drawing. There is a whole series. I don't know where you live, how ever: http://www.label-art.fr/librairie-1.asp?LIBBAN Here is where you can see the covers. It was nr 37 actually ;) I'll try and find if there is an online cataloque, because as far as I know its only available in France. It used to be in English and dutch to but I don't think te series went that well, about 18 years ago that was. In france you can still buy them. I do, they are good reference.
03-28-2005, 07:51 PM
did I mention I love the way you draw :D

This is just fantastic, Hdri!
i love Don Quixote, and thought about doing something related for my challenge piece. But i'd just done a self-portrait over on conceptart for the UK thunderdome so i went with another idea. I'm glad i did because these sketches are lovely and you'd have kicked my ass. I'd defintely be your Sancho Panza!! :p
Check out the link and scroll down to 9A if you're interested (i'd only go if you've got a decent connection cause there's a load of big images)...
Don Duddle of Manchester..? (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=40534)

03-31-2005, 09:43 AM
Nice! Dont forget to add lighting on the left cheek aswell! Er...sorry I know it's just a sketch, but it just sorta bothers me cause it looks like the light source is coming from above...Well anyway keep up the good work! I'm sure this is going to develop sweetly!

Beautiful drawings Antonio, can't wait to see more!
03-31-2005, 04:02 PM
damn you are a madskill with line :) and even more madskillz with light. I like Don is the coolest and servant looks good also (even if you do not like it) :) Great job.
03-31-2005, 04:07 PM
Good start, paisano... looking for a general composition.
Por casualidad no estarás currando en la peli del quijote? buena elección de cualquier manera ;)
Hey, guys, thank you very much for your encouraging comments. I hope I can soon update my work. I was wondering if some tech & futuristic look would help.
Pablo, hello, colega. I'm not working on Donkey Xote. Soy amiguete de Jota, el diseñador de los personajes; pero no me gustan en 3d. A ver qué tal lo hace Filmax... (Tiemblo por la animación)
still developing the idea of the servant helping the master. Very very rough.
colour scheme -rough-
04-01-2005, 02:11 PM
Nice sketches and interesting idea :)
04-01-2005, 03:12 PM
Lovely characters man. Your idea is awsome. Like it a lot. I'm wishing you good luck with your thread. I'll look forward to the next wip.
04-01-2005, 03:38 PM
I love the idea! And the characterisation is amazing, especially on the close up of the faces, it gives you an immediate idea of the sort of man the knight is. I'm definintely keeping an eye on this thread. The best of luck to you.
04-01-2005, 03:56 PM
very cool style, fantastic characters. Love Don Q. a lot. Could imagine Sancho a bit more "unshaved and sweating" sort of guy... subscribe here too and wish you loadsa fun and best luck! keep it up! :)
Still working on character design. I think I'll finally paint a traditional portrait; I have to work hard on the characters aspect.
04-06-2005, 11:52 AM
Another beautiful sketch... your pencil work is so lovely. I like the raised eyebrow and the angle of view. Great stuff.
The earlier sketches of Sancho helping him onto his horse (or stopping him falling off) are lovely.
Can't wait to see your composition.
Keep on truckin'...
04-06-2005, 01:29 PM
wow very good drawing, i wait the suite of the concept and the line art:thumbsup:
04-06-2005, 05:21 PM
Your graphic style works perfectly with the story and characters of Don Quixote and Sancho, keep it up; if possible, please don't let it get lost under some thick paint later on.
I, for one, would go for your earlier sketch - the one where Quixote is lying on the ground. I think it is the most effective as far as composition and emotions go. I'll be most happy if you choose this one to develop, though the second layout is great, too.
Good luck and have fun! :)
04-06-2005, 05:25 PM
Wow, I hadn't seen your thread yet. Wonderful face, and a great job rendering it. (I like the pencil lines so much, I hope we'll be able to see them in the final... but I don't know your painting style, so I guess I'll just wait and see.) I have to confess I like the stronger mustache on him from some earlier sketches (especially the first) more than the thinner one that you have now. But good luck with it, I'm looking forward to seeing more!
04-06-2005, 05:39 PM
that's funny I thought using don quixote. But after seeing your great sketch.... I'm very happy that I haven't choose it :) haha excellent work man !!!
04-07-2005, 03:38 PM
Nice line work and illustration. I don't know how it falls into the master and servant category yet, but it is nice sketching to look at!
04-07-2005, 03:46 PM
Very nice character concept! THere is a lot of personality in your characters. Keep up the great work! I am looking forward to see how everything looks. :)

05-12-2005, 06:15 PM
Very interesting work!
One more milestone!
this is the final image I'm able to upload. Of course, I'm not proud of it; it lacks lot of work, and imagination, composition, colour, lighting, anatomy, drawing, etc. But deadlines are deadlines, and you must submit on time! I've hesitated a lot whether to upload it or not. Finally, I've said to myself: why not? (I must say I don't like it too much.) Anyway, let's see what do you think of it. Best wishes to all of you!
05-16-2005, 01:16 PM

There it goes!

Beautiful and simple (very understandable) work! I love it.
05-22-2005, 10:07 AM
 Antonio: I REALLY love your style. It is this wonderful blend between illustration and traditional oil painting. Beautiful colors. I especially love your faces, they have SO MUCH CHARACTER.
This concept isn't unique, but I think you made an excellent job of it. I enjoy looking at this painting..
Might I ask what sort of techniques you use in your traditional media? Or do you work only in digital?
Once more, congratulations:applause: on one very nice piece! I really like the way you subordinate details, but don't lose them in the overall work.
I really hope I see more of your work in the future!
