Evil Gerbil : Thanks for the compliment, especially from a great arteest:beer:
cha0t1c1 : Thanks a lot for your kind worfs, hope i'll deserve it until the end
ebrowning : Yessss, another master coming to my thread :bounce: About the inspiration, i may think i'm still stuck to the 70' :arteest:."Spirit of Moebius come out of this body !!!" He He. Thank you for the comparison

The Peteboy : quote :"Dude, Emmanuel, god is with us all, but he prefers your fingers" Aren't you Daniel Jackson (Stargate or somthing like dis), the guy who knows everybody's name translation all around the universe ? He He About my fingers, yes i feel them strange since 3 or 4 weeks... Don't what it is... Maybe the call of the graphic tablet ?

Arc80 : :blush: Don't know what to say instead of thank you very much. Ah yes, you have some work to do too. Every step you take, every move you make, i'll be watching you...

Again thanks to you all for your sweet support

A little overview of my to-do list :
1 - Redraw Agnes' arms and re-design a her to a mortal - it seems that semi-goddess is not allowed in the challenge...
2 - Add 200-300 servants more, with special design and expression... Ooops, not enough time !
3 - Add a small space ship wreckage (thanks Archie !!!)
4 - Detail this damn huge guy in the background : castles, forests, etc...
5 - The chains... Arrhh !!! Why did i decide to draw them? ... Why ? ... Why ?

6 - Sleep a little and take care of my little family... Yes Honey i'm ready for dishwash, set the kids in their bedroom, yes mistress...

Cheers

Great work man! It's coming along with a very clear style, both in the drawing and coloring departments; and the detailing.... fantastic! I would like to see a bit more contrast in the lower part of the picture, only a bit, just to balance it a bit, but without overpowering the focal point. I'll be watching this closely :bounce:.

Before you begin to think that I´m absolutely crazy, I can assure you, I am. But it´s not me who is painting an astonaut captured by "moonians" who are servants of a sea-virgin. ;).

spacesnail,

I squint in admiration at all the naughty subliminal messages you've planted. Take the planet earth, for example, (you know, that earth-like planet somebody didn't recognize). Well, that's where snails live. And here, we see it floating in space. Another subtle use of your callsign.

My stupidity aside, your entry continues to flaberghast.

Just for fun, make the astronuts eyes bulge out of their sockets, as in the opening sequence of Total Recall. Also, have a second moonie lick his nose in an intimidating way, as that would me amongst the more horrid ways to be annoyed.

Brilliant work, and only getting stronger. :applause:

This is looking gorgeous, spacesnail! I like the addition of "Agnes' favorite." It adds a little more action and tension into the pic. One note to add: right now it almost seems like the astronaut's helmet is just floating as it's not very clear if there's an arm holding it up or just beind it. You might make whatever hand or talon is holding on to it a little more evident.
But no other crits, everything's looking terrific.
Oh, and I loved the mooore that you added! :-)

wow.. so she is going make the poor astronaut her new slave? I like the alienness of this painting. The colours used here are very interesting!
A question here about the theme. Is the human a servant or about to be? Cuz the rules stated that either the master or servant has to be a pure human. I see the lady as an 'alien goddess' and the creatures down below as her servants. The REAL human is more like a victim here.

NOOB! : i hope so, anyway there's still 18 days !
jeromoo : thks to you also. About the alien goddess-like, the problem is due to her actual skin tone : too dark and white strange eyes. I'm working on Agnes flesh tone to have her look more terrestrial.

I hope there´s gonna be more black going on on the "moonians" in the foreground, as your sea-virgin is kinda popping out of the image too much right now. It´s like she was in front of those "foreground-guys". Overall, this is coming out very very nicely.

Dude, that moonian with the long tongue, that guy is a f***ing perv. I really don´t want to know what he´s up to with our poor astronaut, but I guess it ain´t no good. Hell, I´m gonna have nightmares tonight. It´s scaring the shit out of me already... "If I get cancer, I kill Jack". But: "If I ever meet a moonian like that one in one of my dreams, I ignore Jack and kill you".

yeah, peace ;)

And I doubt you could make sense of even that! As for the painting, I think this is coming on amazingly since I last saw. The lighting is much more dramatic now you've darked Agnes skin tones down and you seem to have upped the contrast on the figures at the front. I'm not sure about the huge red tongue on the Hookie in the centre, it's a really strong pull for the eye, almost to the point it detracts from the rest of the picture, especially Agnes. Who, I must say, is amazing. I love all the detail in her dress. Will you be darkening down the roots of her hair a little too, as she's backlit, it's most likely even the brilliant white hair would be darker where is meets the mass of her skull. A minor point though, in what is an amazing piece.

Tres Belle! Nice work man. Your style is very original. There's great scale to this piece. It has a very soft feeling too because of all the blue. I'm not worried about the astronaut, it looks like his future might involve being a sex slave instead of food. Not so bad considering she's a hottie.

Hello spacenail!!

Thanks for your comment..As soon as i finish my work i will make this test about perspective...

So i have full question ask to you about The Final Image submission..so i'll talk in french (afflicted for the others) because it's more simply for me to be understand..

_"All entries must be submitted by Midnight at the end of 18 May 2005 (GMT)".

_"All entries must be submitted by Midnight at the end of 18 May 2005 (GMT)".

Manu

There´s a big dark spot on the mountains on the upper left side of the pic that is catching my attention all over and over and over again. I don´t like that dark spot. Well, what else should I say. It is a goddamn dark spot that is the only thing I can crit:thumbsup: . Cheers bro, this turned out exeptionally, extraordinary, amazingly. Just awesome! Respect. I´m glad you didn´t change the "long-tongue-guy" :) . Keep up the good work in the future!

Well I think all that effort has paid off - It looks great! Very dramatic work - I'm sure it will be up there with the best entries.

The only thing that bothers me is the mixed colour perspective - just feels a bit strange having a faded middle ground between those blacker foreground and background elements.

Anyway - It's your pic and you must style it accordingly! Nice one!

Moon to earth, moon to earth, it´s the Peteboy talking. Is someone there? I repeat: Is someone there? I´ve been drained to the moon through a time warp portal and I can´t find a way back home. Right now I´m standing beside a "long-tongue-moonian" who was nice enough to borrow me his notebook. I don´t know what he wants from me as return, but I´m afraid it´s nothing good... Wait, I´m seeing more of these guys... they´re coming in my direction... what the... is that!? It´s a ... sea virgin riding some kind of ... machine behind them. Holy sh** !!! They´re ... coming ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

What about some clouds ?

am7
05-10-2005, 03:37 PM
Good idea. But I liked it better before.. not sure why. Perhaps you could try to go the other way, and add even more dark (black) colors to your front servants, aswell as darken your values in the background (which also makes the master stand more out)? In short - UP the contrast abit I mean, it seems overall abit to "pale" with the clouds?

Mythmaker

Dude! You fixed it!

How am I supposed to criticise it now?!!...

This looks terrific, Manu! Great detail work you've been up to: The Earth looks wonderful and I like the subtle halo around it. And the subtle cloud swirls look great too.

I have to confess that I liked the bluer, more saturated palette that you had going on earlier. I'm not sure why, maybe I just got used to it. Usually I can enumerate why a change works for me or doesn't but this time 'round... All I can say is I just liked it! :-)

I'd say 'good luck,' but looks like you're pretty much all done... So good luck uploading the file!

Personally, #380 in my opinion is perfect. It has a bit more depth to your piece, because it's kinda pushed back with that halo and hazy effect. It's also not competiting to your focal point, which is Agnes and the action going on with her slaves.

This one is just popping out too much that it is competiting with Agnes for attention. I'm staring more on Earth than Agnes with this one... which makes me want to be on the EARTH's TEAM than AGNES's TEAM, hehehe.

Here is the background story

A long time ago in Britain, a time portal appeared.
Of course, no one knew what it really was.
There were rumors of abductions.
Time after time, the portal disappeared in the growing forest.
In 2004, Agnes Whitehead, history teacher, discovered an old scroll depicting the story of a terrying "Duke of the Moon".
After many and many researches, she finally found out where the time portal was hidden.
What was a legend suddenly became true, but she didn't want anyone else to be aware of her discovery.
Taking a deep breathe, she climbed the trees and finally stepped up in front of a strange light, moved through it and "POP" disappeared.

Many years later, a space probe discovered some strange activity on the Moon.
The new International Space Consortium decided to send a mission.
Agnes'former fiancé, John Eagle, wasn't choosen to join the team.
The mission wasn't quite a success. No more transmission after landing.

John decided to do his own enquiry... You can now see what happened then.

Hope you'll enjoy it

Spacesnail: did u post ur final Image in the resolution u worked in, cause I tried to submit mine but kept giving me errors...

spacesnail
05-13-2005, 11:45 PM
I'm actually transferring the file (47 megs)

Here are the explanations :
"Final image submission

Image requirements:
The image should be a high-resolution (as high as possible!) uncompressed RGB TIFF, inside a ZIP file. It is imperative you get the format correct, otherwise we may not be able to process it.

Specific details:
Image: Uncompressed RGB TIFF, maximum possible resolution (without upsampling). 3 Samples/Pixel - No alpha or other channels.
ZIP: Compress just that one TIF file, do not subdirectories, do not include any other files.

Image dimensions should be print resolution (as large as you can possibly render). Do not send in a low-resolution placeholder and ask us to get back to you, as we won't.
A guideline is 2657 pixels wide and/or 3636 high, 300 DPI.
DO NOT upsample your images to achieve higher resolution. If you cannot reach the desired full-page resolution, just send in what you have."

Maybe you have posted your work on your own thread ?

Hi there. I posted a response to your kind words when I first entered the challenge, but as I was unsure how the forum worked at that time, I suspect you never saw it. First, thank you for your warm welcome, and second, your challenge piece is just amazing. All that details would make the veins at my temples burst, so I am in solid awe of any artist with the patience and skill to achieve it.

Much muchgood luck with the challenge, and again, thank you.

Boohoohoohooo, you make me cry
I try to post a sensitive comment and thought, and look : you're bad with me.
I want my mom... Boohooohooohooo

Okay all this doesn't meet the 4th commandment :

Critiques and responses to images are to be constructive and related to improving the quality of the artwork.

So, even if there's some bad guys around here (He He), this community is really a cool one.

Sensitive boy

---err, i'm kidding, okay ?---

PeterPuppet

There´s no bad guy in here, I can tell ya that. There´s a lotta good guys and maybe one or two who are normal ;) . Don´t worry Emu, you´re definately not normal. You have the privilege to be all above this. The category you belong to is "unique" or like the normal people would say "freak". ;)

Just to make things clear, I´m not putting myself into any of these categories: nor am I normal, nor good, nor unique...

I´m all beyond this, hehe. I´m in the category "freak". Normal guys would say "psycho" and now -with your help- I have another psycho on my side. He´s blue, big, comes from the moon and has a very, very, very long tongue and we two are gonna take over the world haha!!! Thank you for this :) I wish you the best in the judging and hope you can survive this horrible mental attack we two are planning. Cya in the next challenge. You´re a damn funny guy. I love funny guys (in a non-sexual way of course) ;) .

peace, pete

Or just write a stick it note, that tells everyone who asks to stick it. When your spacesnail, it's better to paint than to yak about it.

ravioli_rancher : Invertebrates rule the W... (SCRRRTCHHHH...squeeze sound)... About the tutotial, that's a cool idea. That's also funny because i'm on my way to become Art teacher, so this could really be an interesting self exercise... Since i'm not a very good english writer, i'll certainly have problems with "technical" words, so i'll ask for help with this.
agios : thanks and i wish you good luck too
