modelling and texturing is good  although i'd suggest to paint some dirt in the edges in addition to dirty nuts. just to have some dirt that was smeared down by the rain. that would be nice at the steps and also under the platform in the top right of the image. but i think the lighting is a bigger problem, with a better lighting this picture will look pretty darn nice!! unfortunately i am really no lighting expert so don't expect some supergood tips from me. :hmm: but maybe you should make the whole image darker, like a night situation where the moonlight provides some dark blue light and that the light from a street lantern with some more of a yellowish light is coming from the right. then maybe add some fog or steam to the scene. hope you understood what i mean. :)

That really cool

How long did the modeling take ... is it easier than it looks

Thanks.

Ah ya rain grime.....I didnt think of that :hmm:

Yep lighting sucks :hmm: ....what happened was I had all my lights not looking to bad after a battle of about 2 hours, then I go to render and see the auto light is on...arrrrgh :annoyed:,so I just turned it off and rendered, maybe I should have left it on :D

I have a sunlight of 5 omnis at 30 each all cast soft shadows, and a fill of 30 with orange brown whic is also an omni,+ an area light above for sky color bounce set to about 30 with soft shadows. It only took 7 minutes to render at 480 x 480 so that impressed me :)

Ok some tweaks and I will re post.

Oh ya this image has gamma adjusted from .8 to 1.2 Derwolpertinger. It ill look a little darker on Windows gamma.

The modelling took about a day and half, but I was working on an old file so some of the intricate stuff was already there.

Is it easier then it looks:) ...hmmm,its really a matter of making friends with the magnet tool Kaiser and getting used to using it.The boxes were tricky because I had to try and maintain an edge to be able to bevel in order to get a good spec return or they would not look right, plus to make the hole and make it look dinted I had to make quite a lot of inner extrusions to get enough points to be able to make a decent dint with the magnet tool. What I basically did after that imagine I had a cardboard box sitting in front of me that was a little dampp and worn, but that has also been kicked about some,so I had to work out impact sites and hw the box would deform after being kicked. The paper was a bit easier because all I had to do was keep with an arc type of deformation going one way on a single axis. The ladders are cylinders with round ends as they but into the corners of each other nicely simulating a welded join. The walls are planes except for the back wooden wall which has extruded boards as I prefer the look as oppposed to a bump. The floor has some magnet treatment for some dips in the surface. The grate on the right wall I cant remember how I did that now,and apart from that just layers and bloody more layers of all kinds of grime on all the textures :)

I dont think I forgot anything :hmm:

try using hard lights on this one, the lights are too soft, or if you still want the soft light up the shadow map resolution and give them shadow cones pointing at the objects visible in teh scenes, this should make them a little bit sharper... in a scene like this it's important for things like the railings to have nice sharp shadows, rather than se the omin cluster try using a light with area shadows... i think in this case it needs that look.

Nice one Kiwi!

All of your pics have the same ambience to them. What kind of lighting do you use?

I generally use a slightly yellow omni with soft shadows and a an orange brownish omni for fill :)

I deep sixed the back wall,am trying rusty steel, might just go for brick like the other walls though.

On an OT subject my upgrades for PS and AE arrived at the same time as my composite tool kit upgrade, only Adobe customer service sent me 2 bloody copies of each... :hmm: So I got on the blower and got it sorted but they would not admit the mistake was at there end.Like I am going to order 2 copies of each, give me a break :annoyed:

hey, already looks much better although there are still not enough shadows in my opinion. maybe place the main light a bit lower to get some onger shadows. and again, some steam would be very cool. :)
