Hello!

For my test project I have modeled very large terrain (aprox. 12km×12km) and my comupter is on edge of crashing. Does any one have idea how to texture this terrain (maps) and especially how can i put models of trees to this terrain without crashing my computer.

Thanks,...

What software are you using? What is the poly count of the terrain?

Hello -NG-

I'm using 3D studio max, and the number of poly's is around 1.500.000,00. The terrain was modelled in autocad than it was imported in 3dstudio max.If you have solution for problem i would like to here...

Thanks!

Well, that's a lot of faces, no wonder your computer is on the edge of dying. You may want to try runing an optimize modifier on your terrain to reduce the polygoncount if detail isn't the most important thing, or maybe run optimize, convert to editablePoly, then use a meshsmooth with rendertime only settings to make the ground higher res only at rendertime instead of in your viewport. But that only works if the landscape can be a little soft, if your original landscape has tons of tiny detail or sharp edges that won't work. Another thing to try is break the landscape into smaller pieces, like say 9 seperate pieces using the detach feature, that wont save you on rendertime, but it will allow for faster viewport speed if you hide the chunks of landscape you don't need when editing. Or do that and then render each part of the landscape seperately, then composite them back together in a piece of compositing software.

Anyways, hope something in there helps.
