Hi martin.......first off...your efforts are coming up wonderfully.....all is coming really nicely.....:arteest:

.......I got you're PM....I sent to you...but it showed no response,as if it never went out.....I sent twice.....Anyways I'll write it out here for you,in case you did'nt get it......

..............................................

.....I dont play around with Vray materials much......but I have experimented......This may be something you can look into....it's all about tweaking and experimenting...as always....

.....You need to set the reflection glossiness to something below 1.0 to get highlights.......

.............Specular highlights.......to get these.....set the Glossy parameter for the reflection to something below 1.0 and set the reflection color to something other than black....you might also want to "Uncheck" ....Trace reflections"...........if you just want the highlights and not true glossy reflections.......

....Ok hope this steers you in the right direction......Just ask if there are anymore questions....best of luck to you....see you soon.....:arteest:

wow, it's been ages since I've updated.. and only 18 days according to this timer.. scary!

here's my progress.. it's been a little slow and the learning curve for vray materials have been a bit tough ;(

this render took about 21minutes, lit with a omni (placed where the bottle is) and using the kitchen hdri (temporary).
The light is tinted yellow, which is giving the yellowie glows..

The bottle glass I finally figured out how to make transparent vray mat.. I just need to tweak the refraction settings to get it right.

Still left to do are textures on the bag, the coat and legs.

Great job with your texture and lighting. Your image is very natural looking, and while the light (comming from the jar) is bright, it is not overpowering. I thinks the textures and colours you've chosen work very well and give the image a soft, story book feel. Great stuff, especially on the clothing and hair. Alexi

the hair isn't perfect at the moment I know, it's divided up into 3 parts - right, left and fringe. I think what I'll do is correct alot of it in post, it's going to be easier that way instead of fighting with it and waiting for long renders ;p..

Crying horn - thx alot.. right now it's set to 1.55 IOR, but I'll keep tweaking it til it's better.. till then, I'll finish off the textures

monsitj - just for these wip images I render very low at 1024x 768.. is it too sharp? I haven't applied any sharpen filters in post..

goktug - what's wrong with the left hand. Is it the refraction coming off from the glass?

alexichabane - thanks alot for your comments, the things you've noticed really hit the mark. I was careful with the bottle light not to make it too intense, but intense enough for the fingers to be red.

Virtuoso - I'm not even close.. mountains of work still left to do.. I guess we're all in the same boat still ;( thanks for stopping by

think I'm pretty close to finishing the textures on the girl.. maybe a few minor tweaks..

I'm still undecided on the bag color, though you can't really see it with the lighting right now.. it's pink/purple and grey.

I'll set the transluceny on the fingers back on for the final.

Facial expression is still being worked on, still not final.. ;p

monsitj
05-02-2005, 06:02 PM
nice model and nice lighting !! some point is , like you say it's not final , I think her black eye is too small , made her feel like frighten or something , and her finger that grab the bottle is strange( for me)
that's it , the orther are awesome!

Hello martin. As I already said you I think you got one of the most emotive picture.:applause:

I have one crit now I see the render picture with a wider angle. I'm not fond of the other bottle with servant near the girl. I think the attention of the spectator is "corrupted" even if it make a good lighting. I think the solution would be to let the bottle behind but with no faeries and light just to see it's the 1st of a series.
I must stop help people that would, with or without my advices, finish at a better place than me and go back to work but I'm a lazy man.:)

WesleyTack
05-03-2005, 02:18 AM
very nice work!
one crit i had to mention though, the lower part of the legs seems way to thin.
I would really consider on making them a bit thicker.

Versiden
05-03-2005, 08:29 AM
authentic - thx dude.. I had the same thoughts about that a while ago. Initially I wanted a few more captured fairies lying on the ground (like the sketch).. but I think the overall image will be too confuzing with multiple light sources everywhere. So I plan just to have them empty and scattered on the ground.. a story in itself of the effort in capturing 1

simon.wt - appreciate the comment ;p im afraid I'm way past tweaking the model ;( I guess it's personal taste but I'm totally 100% happy it.

Very cute scene you chose here, very well achieved technicly, I dunno if I really feel the master/servant relation ship here... more hunter/hunted... but it is anyway very emotive, looking forward to see some more.

...those artifacts on the feet could do a great burnt/melting skin texture effect ...hmmm... let's keep that in mind...hehe:)

good luck !!

here's the landscape alternative.. I'm thinking it maybe be better as the characters fill the space more..

I'll have to do some more modelling in the scene to accomodate...

Versiden
05-03-2005, 07:52 PM
Tremoside - it's dirt.. dried mud.. I suppose it will fit better in context in the final ;p

Adriano_Zanetti - I think what's so great about the theme is that it can be interpreted in so many ways and that it works on so many levels. The definition of master servant may be different for each of us, I think a servant is there to provide a service, whether willing or unwilling in the relationship depends on the story. Yes, while probably it's true there is that element of hunter/hunted .. I'm trying to capture those few minutes where master&servant roles come into play, even if it's for a short while, that relationship is met.
oh.. those artifacts are actually suppose to be mud.. hehe, no errors there :)

Gunilla
05-03-2005, 08:02 PM
I think the lanscape version, but perhaps widen it a bit to the right. Some space in front of the characters could be good. Just an idea - I'm sure you solve it the best way

This is really turning into a beautiful image - congrats!

Your image is coming together very well, i'm looking forward to seeing it finished. Just two very minor, nit-picking points - I still reckon her heels are a little bit pointed and her feet look a little bit out of proportion with her head...

The subtle details like forearm muscle, kneecap, soft light around face and hand ...it all really works for me...and the composition looks great too:thumbsup: Good luck for the home stretch;)

All the makings for a pleasant scene martin, that we know, and thus far you are reaching the potential you set out for yourself........I would suggest giving her feet a bit more overall size.....a touch, they seem a bit small in relation to the rest of her body and head......

............Other than that this is solid, and well done of course....nice touches and a nice pleasant piece........:arteest:

i agree for the grass, to me it dosen't add anything atm(maybe on the rendertimes though ;) )
it dosent quite match the rest of the style as it is. I think that's mainly because it's so soft compared to the rest.

but you've done a damn fine work on the rest so far.. I'm looking forward to see your next update(s) and I hope you'll make it in time! would be a shame if you didn't after all this work... *pressure pressure*

I\\\'ve modelled the tiny ground plants, i think it looks alot better to compliment the grass. The leaves are opacity mapped planes - no textures on them, just a diffuse colour for now.

more tweaks on the textures being worked on, especially the tree bark.. all on my todo list. Not happy with the flower arrangement, it will be changed ;p

yes , tree bump are awesome! and i think you should comp the girl in your image in Ps and mark area that need to work! it will reduce overowork , because something you have to blur out , add for ,add shadow to it , and maybe the girl and lighting from fairy bottle will be over it , such as your grass maybe it's look good after combine with orther element! good choice in rush hour like these ! hehehe

i really like the background update verisiden, great colours and vibrancy. the textures are also impressive especially without zbrush (i'm going to have to do the background the old-fashioned way too). one thing that stands out is the bareness of the ground, a little bit of variety in the colour of dirt and perhaps some tufts of grass around the place would be a nice touch. other than that ist some super work so far, i'm really looking forward to your final:thumbsup:

What I've done to solve alot of the character lighting is to setup a large "board" with the render of the environment mapped onto it, and some illumination applied. This bounces light onto the character to give it a warmer light, instead of the cold blue/black lit side that I was getting..

hope im making sense ;p

tweaks to the bottle main jar:

what I did was render out the jar separately in the kitchen hdri environment - because the main reason the glass wasn't showing was the lack of reflections. I then applied that render in Screen layer mode in Photoshop.

It gives a nice internally lit apparence too..

Terrific work- very clean models, textures & lighting. If you've got time, maybe you could see what the background looks like with more of a hint of foliage in the area behind the jar (& the refractions would boost the glassy appearance). Also maybe some oiliness/specular on the skin (perhaps just from a single point specular source, & a fractal map on the skin to break up the highlights, then screen this layer on top). Not essential though, & might be too realistic for this current slightly stylized appearance.

Hi Martin.GLAD TO SEE YOU MADE IT.
Very nice looking imagery you brought to us here.I like the idea of catching fairy,so
fantastic.Nothing to crit much, anything I could crit is insufficient and belongs to unnecessary fluff,so I'm Wishing you best of luck.SEEYA ARROUND.

I think you did great in all the steps but the final image have not the same impact. The servant (a very well developed model) is too small and show no details enough to understand what kind of creature is that for someone that is looking to your image for the first time. The pose is a little odd, maybe because of the anatomy of the knees and the feet that's really too small. The girl is not looking at the creature inside of the glass (she looks up). The cloth of her skirt doesn't show any folds and make this part unnatural.

I know that you worked hard for this image and I think it's good. It's just a shame that another people didn't notice this issues before. Good luck.

3dRaven, DaddyMack, A I R, jddog, MDN67, vampeta, alex.h., pixelkeg, Vedrica, goktug, Wandddo, bealobo, cipher - hey guys, thanks for the overwhelming support. It has been a long 2months.. wish it could have been maybe 1 more week longer, but I'm pleased with the results. Good luck to all.

limousine - yup, it's unfortunate that the servant model is really tiny that none of the details really shine, but I had it in mind to use it for another image in my head so I'm glad I put in the efforts. As for the eye direction.. it may be a slight bit over.. (the eye rig from max actually looks beneath the bottle).. and in retrospect, I should have applied more SSS to the eye. Technical problems aside, I'm still happy with it, it's not perfect but I think the mood / relationship that I wanted to achieve is there. Thx for the crits.. always welcome ;-p
