Just exploring some ideas of what the general should look like. As I was sketching I started to add more interest to his facial features like a beard, scars and an artificial eye. I will develope these ideas more tomorrow.

So here's the idea- I got the idea to do a victorian style portait in the vein of Seargent. Only i wanted to add a sci-fi twist, but still keep the old style. So i have an old retired general in his study that contains the various interesting items he collected from his tour of the galaxy. Which includes a massive beast that is complete and utterly loyal to him.

Great sketch with plenty of small details. I really like the general's body language -- very arrogant looking. I'd love to see a really exotic looking beast, as though the general has been places we couldn't even dream of. I don't know why but I'm seeing nothing but bears in this competition and it's only the second day. :surprised Good luck!

Hey Derek,
Good to see you in this challenge! I like the idea you've come up with. Should be interesting. Don't hold back on the weird artifacts and alien animals!
I still got to think of an idea...

I think your idea is great. I really like the idea of going with a formal portrait. I also agree with Evil Gerbil; lots of artifacts and trinkets would be really cool. Good luck!

Thats something original in this challenge. And I like the idea very much. While ur drawing skills r great, u should put more attention to generals face, make him recognizable and proud. And I think he shouldnt be some sort of a bad guy looking. A peacefull and happy oldman is what I have in mind.. but that is just my opinion :) good luck with the challenge! Nice start already!
