Fernando de Anda Orellana has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (http://cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/view_entries.php?challenger=5680)

Latest Update: Final Image: Hamburgexia
http://cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/5680/5680_1116809160_medium.jpg (http://cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/5680/5680_1116809160_large.jpg)

This is not based in anyone's life, it's just a story
that repeats itself everyday anywhere touched by our
consumption and materialist culture, best spread by
massive media.
14 yeared old, Alicia, overwhelmed by wonderland,
anorexic.

Symbols

Stairs: The way of complexes

Frame: The lost of innocence, the lost of Alicia

Yum Kaax: Yum Kaax was the Mayan god of corn... Now,
this original sacred figure is used as ornament in a
wealthy house where you don't need anymore to pray for
having food... now you have to pray for that food to
be eated.

Symbolic details in the floor: (from left to right)
Light culture, society controled by power, earth used
as toilet of human race, human race as killer of
mother nature, killer of alicia. The hability of
killing ourselves as species, the gluttony for money,
social interaction weakened by machines, the
mutilation of original and free inteligence, final loneliness.

Master: The idea of being fat (hamburger)
Servant: Anorexic girl

The idea came from a cousin of mine (thanks Marisol!) while we were searching for some dramatic concepts...

I get the final pose of the girl with the help of another 2 cousins of mine; Andrea & Mayte, thank U

I think it would be an obese person enslaved by fast food. Anorexic people fear being fat but are enslaved by the idea of not being thin enough. Try it, see if it worksw for you.

You can play with the concept back and forward, but believe me, there's no contrast between a fat person and his food... :scream:

looking forward to what you make out of the speak we had yesterday! keep it up mate!!!

mosconariz
03-30-2005, 05:12 PM
Yeah Angel, yesterday we had a great conversation about this horrible psychologic ilness; and after reading a little, talking with you and my sister about some of her friends, i came to the conclusion that there is not a regular patern of how this girls are; they normaly become anorexic at the age of 12 or 14, in most cases they're wealthy, they are obsesive with schooll, most of the times the ilness begins because of a broken or deteriorated family... It is related to their wishes to be "perfect". Anorexia is a desperate cry for atention. They become obsessed with sport, with their eating habits...

So, how all this affects my image?

My image will still portrait fear; that's the most important issue... cause my character obsession to be thin has developed an insane fear to fat food. Her clothes will not be as fashion as i supposed them to be; they will be more neutral. She'll be a 13 year old caucasian "post-cute" girl. And all my image will be full of subliminal messages :)

Ok, I started with something simbolic; the shape of the beginning of human life (human embrio). I put this shape in the navel, cause it is the scar that join us to our beginning... The piercing is braking the navel, where all body connections and history are linked. That's why the piercing is killing the fetus shape.

Everytime I give a break to myself and watch the level of quality in this challenge I loose completely my breath... I know I can't compete, I just can do my effort to make my company works, and for this challenge I'll be making a nice image, I'll learn to model people and hopefuly I'll give a message against these socio-psicollogical diseases.
Thanks 4 watching :D

the1st_angel, thanks 4 your comments! you'll see that 3D face soon!

fer3d, Thank you tocayo... About my inspiration, yeah, is anything but normal... When I'm trying to make art, I always search for disturbing themes; I asume I want to understand this world and its problems... Also I find more interesting this kind of images.

Virtuoso, thanks virtuoso, I'll work hard and harder!

Tremoside, The same 2 you bro! you have been a great challenge friend since Machinflesh! I'm posting the proportions for ya, so that U can check it out... She's a 12 year old girl, so proportions should be a bit little.

rattlesnake, Yeah, I'm having some fun here! However sometimes is disturbing to watch my model. But away from the fun of modeling, I'm learning a lot... I'm using Stahlberg's tutorials and threads about topology, anathomy and skin shading, also checking Linda's comments about color, and M.Costa's way of modeling!

Thanks to you all for all the support!

Hi Fernando,

My jir...ja...friend I have to learn it! For first about Zbrush...I see just as you how different to work with that...I think that is much more faster to add details, also less fight with UVWs if you usin Zspheres. I have it and started to learn but am really a newbie with that! So for the next challenge we should learn (I don't know what kinda knowledge do you have in Zbrush) that and show something stunning entry. Maybe we can save lots of hours with that. And learnin is always a fun!

About proportions: Now I can see clear your whole figure and it seems good. That cutout was the problem to my eyes.
Nice work on those hands and good to see your workflow is on tha way!

Take care yourself, sleep some times, :wavey:

So, here we are, 19 days, 6 hours, 45 minutes, 22 seconds before deadoline... Here's her face, is still a WIP, I want her not to look like the scream movie's mask... Finally I started this kinda drawings before the movie... mmm, whatever

Okay, here she is... has been a log journey since the first polygon... Now we have 6,871 polygons.

I\'m really happy cause she\'s the first human figure I have ever modeled from first to last polygon!

And it works fine... I\'m not completely satisfied with the legs and with the inferior part of the neck, but by now it\'s cool, I\'ll go foreward and try tgo texture her in ZBrush, hope I can do it right, hehe... if not, I\'ll have to do the unwrap UV stuff and photoshop it.

There are a lot of objects and textures to make so I don\'t wanna stop more with her, hope U understand...

mosconariz
04-30-2005, 03:35 AM
Tremo, yeah, Zbrush posibilities are awesome, I'm whatever is before a newbie, newnewbie, hehehe, something like that; I have clicked it a couple of times helped by the_1st_angel, thanks to him :scream:... so we should continue practicing just to be competitive in this challenges, cause we're clearly in disadvantage...

And about sleeping, don't worry, I can't work the complete week if I'm not sleeping, so I've no option, I can only stay awake two nights in a row... :D

Your entry is amazing bro, and U R finishing early, congrats!

Hi fernando......As I mentioned earlier......I would go with #3....... I like the extra depth, and scale provided with this.....Plus you're character is close enough still to the camera.......However,when looking more into this...I got to thinking that #2......was looking interesting.......I like that you can still see more of the hambuger....Possibly a blend of the two.......So my answer is a Blend of #2 and #3.....Hope I did'nt confuse things......;)

Sesame? of course

Ultra greese? We didn't hear that order every day, but you're the client
Bump Texture? Yeah, surely it needs, specially the meat and bread
Specular texture? yeah... would be nice...:D

Want to put that stuff, but I'm going from the urgent to the important... so that I can deliver a nice image in 5 days...

Hey isn´t fair take a photo of a hamburger and say its 3d ...

My gosh is that an UNFORTUNATE figure!

I have to say that you have mdeled the body out very, very impressivesly! Some of us got it, and you are definately one of them.

I like the camera angle since it displays the stories elements.. but I can't really say it enforces anything on to me.. It sort of feels like a closer shot that would enlarge him to proportions to the hamburger; having the stairs bluring from too close an angle, the hamburger engulfing the background would be a good idea to try out. Some what like your second angle...

Well I came by your thread far too late as it is. I am sure you are far gone along your own tracks. it has all gone good so far. Lets see where it gets you to!

Intresting mood.. vibrant on purpose?

As odd as this may seem... I think I am actually understanding what you are intending to do! :)
And see what you mean about the difuse map.. Infact why don't you also use a negative of it as a reflection/specular map... sort of for it to ensure visibility on an even parallel angle

I can agree with the room showing up.. but for insuring that you get te observers intrest to your point you have to do some choices.. this sort of includes your lighting and simiallar aspects. Just see if you would like the new view a bit better or not sometimes it is harder to see things like that when you are into modeling it and thus seeing it from every angle, else I am sure you would have thought of this yourself.

Just gone to the link and can say that I like your style.. I would truely like to see where you take this to.

Good Luck!

Final efforts to make a decent background... my pc crashed in the morning rendering this... then it worked in the afternoon... I saw some mistakes so I went to tweakings... I'll render this tonight... I'm a little worried cause I lost a day...

The sculpture is the maya god of food. ZBrushed!

I tweaked the portrait... so the color gamma is better, less cheesy

And, I created the painting in 15 min... my mind was very clear about the style and colors muahaha

Time Left:

1 day, 10 hours, 13 minutes, 38 seconds. hehe

I am so sorry for being away and not being able to witness your works through the final stages of your entry.
I am very glad none the less to see that you HAVE made it to the final and have managed to submit an entry.

Your idea was original and your methods of executing it was even more original... very well done none the less!
I wouldn't worry about the 'morph's on the stairs actually.. but I think it was good that you had the doubts as I like their new form a lot more. And I am sure the results are even more rewarding in the large scaled submited version.

As for the hamburger.. gosh what can I say that hasn't been said.. it has an emmence amount of expressiveneww in it (how ever that would be possible)
Through what I read of your plans in the earlier stages, I think I had a bit diffrent an expectation, but well caught by suprise I like this one much more!

The parts that are up to ou is full filled.. now it's all up to your entry :)
Good luck with it.. where ever it takes you!

ilusiondigital,

Causins, brothers and friends that helped me so much.

I would like to give Thanks 2 all of those who made a lot for this final image; the best I had ever made! I know it has some bad details, like the elbow on the floor, aurgh! But it was a great experience to learn and speed up; now I'm faster in poly-modeling, I'm faster in photoshop, now I know a little from Zbrush, enough to make the mega detailed clothes. I made my first complete human figure! My first long hair! My first etcetera!... This challenge was awesome, I recieved influence from 2D art in the 2D section, like Sacha's and Linda's..., I was inspired by their work to make the lighting, the best light setup I had ever made!. I can't write down all the influences and inspiration I recieved from you to create this piece. All I can say is thank U all, including CG Talk for making such great oportunitie where artistic and techincal interaction is made possible! Thanks!
