Dimi:..why i get the feeling he is lookig abit like u ...hahahahahah.... hahahaha, that's selfreflection, the beard was very greekinfluenced ;) muahahaha.
he definatly needs a shave and a haircut :D :argh: :scream:

Shaykai: thanks a lot mate!

Wintermute: its very simple, i just paint the normmap and map it on the lowpoly in max, and overdrive the bumps in zb to get a nice and cleat bumpmap of it :) so polycount is low, its just subdiv. level2 nurmssubdiv on render only... a displacementmap and a nice bump :)

overcontrast: thanks a lot mate!

Climax, Geta-Ve: please read:
I am going to visit my parents now. Easter visit. Because many many have asked about my haircreationmethod, i'll spend a few moments when i'm back to my pc, to write a little step by step tutorial, that my help many of you to get hair done how you want it.

so check back later tonight here, i'll take my time and hope the tutorial will be understandable (despite my master yoda english) hahaha. cheers!

Impressive work, I like the expression on his face, but actually I would quit a little of hair there, just to show off his face a bit more.

I haven´t read all the comments, because last time I came it was like just two pages or so and I have tasks to complete, so this is already said for sure: Felicidades! está increíble!

I love the colors and the mood. Come on, go back to work ... I can´t wait to see more updates heheheh

Sacha Diener has entered the Master and Servant 3D.
to explain what this funny hairstyle is about: i just painted the hairmask, thats basically where hairs will appear, also its a blendshader mask for having hair on eybrows and so on. the lengths now get defined with splines, and for the main hairgroups, i assign each individual submaterial ID's. i have to admit he looks silly at the moment. but i thought in manner of a complete documentation, this would be important too.

This is a pretty nifty way of making hair. Is it with a 3rd party plugin or is this a 3DMax trick? I ask because my own entry wiill involve hair, a fair bit actually, and I would love to know if you have any tips or know of any website tutorials for this, as I am faiirly green when it comes to this stuff.

José is far not finnished, but I am very happy and excited, cuz i felt like doing a bit of girly modeling, so here\'s the first glance of her.
also the wireframes, and a smove, with a lowres map i just roughly painted to get an impression how she\'s goin to look like (the map is goin to be replaced with a nice texture when she's ready). It's just a start on her...
:) take a look

would like to add something: my main focus on her tonight (i modeled her in about 1.5 hours and painted a little map on her, from the cam perspective) was to roughly catch the type of girl she is in the concept, for an impression here something to compare.

1. How did you go about moedelling..i mean the basic steps?
2. How did you give this perfect texture?
3. What is a frogview?.....you had mentioned it on a post i tried to find out but failed.
Thanks!

Kid Mesh: hahaha, is that your way to make a lady a compliment? muahahaha wanna meet your gf! :P rofl

keetmun: thank you i am glad i just took up the progress again. i'll keep going!!!

pigwater: eyes just for you, hahaha. yeah, i felt like i have to make her a slight bit softer, so i went for a bit of more mass, hope it doesnt change her too much. :)

Ludal and abz:

how did you do your so nice shader ?

the shadertechnique is very simple, posted it already earlier, here's how i make it:

ok here's the shader how it works. I select a transluscent shader. I put a bitmap (call it diff.jpg now) into:
diffuse color.: diff.jpg 75-100%
specular color: diff.jpg 35-50%
specular level: copy of bumpmap, (might tweak the whitheamount with menthod i describe)
opacity: fresnel falloff, swap black and white, 2-5%
Transluscent color: diff.jpg 25-30%
bump: mixmap ---> cellular, fractal 3 lvls, (white cells, black outs) size 0.01 / painted bumpmap from zbrush mix amount by taste (if already a bump, girly here just has a colormap and that's it.)
Reflection: fall off fresnel,

a trick to tweak b/w bitmaps in max is:
get bitmap into new map--->bitmap
new map---->mix
keep old map as submaterial
drag it into mixamount, select swap
now you can adust the white or black like photoshops levelcorrection
for colored bitmaps its not required to swap, just keep it iin the slot, set the other color to white, black grey, whatever, play with the mixamount so you have a saturation controll or brightness controll with the same trick :)

i don't have any pure"bitmaps" in my mat editor, i am used to make things ajustable, almost all maps i use are mixmaaps and blendshaders.

Geta-Ve

thats lo-res?! Ill be lucky if I get that good on my guy :D

Amazing man AMAZING!

TheFirstAngel
03-31-2005, 05:09 AM
1. How did you go about moedelling..i mean the basic steps?

I draw a spline from the sideview with her profile. then switch to frontview, make silhouette without ears. draw splines for mouth, nose and eyewith. add 2 rows of splines each,
to get the shape. then create a surface and finally convert it to an editable poly, then start closing holes.
2. How did you give this perfect texture?
its a simple trick i assign a planar uvw a look at modifier and link it to the cam. a so called cam map. then hit texporter and paint roughly a map in photoshop. took me bout 2-3 minutes.
then import it and use it on the shader described above

3. What is a frogview?.....you had mentioned it on a post i tried to find out but failed.
Imagaine there's a scene. A bird flys over it and sees it from "birdview"
a little frog sits on the ground, he sees the scene from "frogview"
Imagine you were a little frog, so you see everything to appear very big. also, if you work with speed (motionblur, seing fast moving things a bit blurry, those who are not moving with the camera) i tought it would help your runner composition, to show he's running, add a nice feel for the movement to your work...

keep it up! thanks for everyone who's supporting me, I am very very busy at the moment, still try to keep it up here (and in 2d) and if someone has a question, feel free to ask, :)
best luck and godspeed, ladies and gentlemen, keep on rocking !!!

Hi Sacha, your girl is already looking off-the-wall beautiful; the proportions, modeling, and even the current textures (especially the eyes) all draw the viewer into personality of the character. :)

Only critique I have (not really a critique really, but more of a curious thought) is, what is that black triangle shape (shadow?) that appears on top of the right ear?

Wow... beautiful progress so far. I really, really like the features of her face. I also love the expression on the concept sketch. Very adoring of herself, one might say.

The model is lovely - but I miss the expression a little on her. It looks a little bit more lazy than arrogant, I think, but it's just a progress so what do I know :} Awesome, anyway!

Linda: Thank you very much, you are right with the expression (i might tweak that as a morphtarget and play a bit with the expression on her)...
also, i have to put much effort in her to create a good shader for her, lighter, smove eyebrows, and still smove her out. i'll try to work her expression for the next update :)
special note: your new avatar is intriguing! fascinating

Sacha, do you mind if I ask you a question?

I'm looking at your lips and your edge topology (which is all very clean), and I was wondering: the way the lips are modeled, with such little detail at the edge, how do you get the mouth to deform properly?

Since it's my current issue and since my skill level isn't anywhere near yours, I figured I could ask as helping won't put me ahead of you in this race. ;)

Also: that skin map, it isn't a proper one? What will you change for the final? It looks terrific to me.

tilite: gotta post tomorrow, am in the middle of her body at the moment and spent some time on my 2d entry tonight as well, so update gets a bit delay, but it's up after work. :)

.::STRIKE:: Thanks a lot Stike, your nasty pigmaster rocks bad ass! like him all the way. tell your boss to go for a game called "pigcry"... hehe, i'd see a cg bomb take place :P

=BlackNull=: thank you so much crazy frenchy! haha, you're too kind! just trying to do a good work here, humbly. thats it :)

Brent_3D: thanks a lot! i'll show her progress after i'm back from work here cheers!

Lord Bubble: Likewise and thanks a lot, your worx always rocked, nuts bubble god! haha, i'll give my best to let her appear godly sexy! Just to please the gods ;)
out nutsopolis, i just wanted to take a pic from aunt frieda and uncle alonso-hans-albert when a speednut attracted my focus ;) looool

dioxide: thx a lot! just keep em smove, thats the trick.

kattkieru: i never mind a question. its all simple, I work with very targeted edge-looping. you might try this technique to see the way it works. select an edge on a lowpolyobject you want to define. extrude it 0 and basewith 0.1 for example. hit meshsmove and look at the result. no magic, just focused modeling, focused on keeping polycount wearable.
did this help?
Skin map is just a shitty lowres cam map, i'll paint a nice highres in zbrush when it comes to texturing :) i mean, a really high detailed high resolution map. :)

Ok, i'll be propably back here a bit later, if not, a slight bit more late, after work. :D hahaha, thank you all! I'll keep :wip:

did this help?

Whoa, MaxSpeak. :) I haven't used Max since v1.2.

What you're saying is, you extrude edges into the shape you desire, huh? Like starting from a box and then carefully dragging them outwards to form cheeks, etc? I'm sorry; I just don't know what basewidth and meshmove mean any more. It's been a long time since I had any of that lingo in my head. ^-^

As for keeping polycount low... yeah, I'm suffering from poly bloat on mine. Your model's economy is really interesting, because for so few polys you've got really good definition.

Skin map is just a shitty lowres cam map, i'll paint a nice highres in zbrush when it comes to texturing :) i mean, a really high detailed high resolution map. :)

I must have missed the definition of "shitty lowres" because I'll be happy if my skin map looks half as good as yours in my final render. ;)

I was thinking a lot about the appearance of the particles, and also about the enlightment, the glow wich symbolizes the enpowerment of her servant. (found an E.T.-Finger not too exciting to go for that) so tonight popped up the solution i might go for.
I feltlike stuck in thes concept, also i didnt have room to playout my ideas.
so i quickdoodled this conceptupdate, i plan to create a few glowing little pets "made of light" and i think i found a nice solution to go for. any suggestions on this would be most appreciated... cheers

Hmm she looks rather delicate so i'd suggest maybe humming birds??? They move rather fast and can hover so you can get details in some whilst others could be zooming...I'd probably forget about most slow animals...when I think of light creatures fast ones rather pop into mind...of course these little fellas can give of a slight glow (an omni with inverse light source and rather small radius) Particle flow could do wonders here.

abz: thank you very much and most welcome. thats normal. and, have a great and creative weekend, so will i :)!

Miezis: Nah no way, go and look around, there are so many great pieces and i didn't even make it to see all of them yet. Am just clicking like stoopid and have doubts all the time if what i do fits... but then, i am very happy to just being part of this. :)

Stjepan: YOU sure can Paint and model like hell, i am just sort of intuitive and chaotic. I love the classic way of developing of yours!

Kattkieru: thanks a lot mate! meshsmove besides is simple nurms-subdividing... lol
yeah, that method is boxmodelingbased. About texturing: i work bi-leveled, using zb and ps in combination to have the favopurs of both tools... that makes texturing work nice and fast... thanks a lot for the observation

Kid Mesh: Yeps. 200% go, weekend is here! Happy Polyrockin'!

UK3D Thank you very much. Body is at work. been sleeping a bit little this week, around 2-3 hours normally and 2 times going straight to work, because i also am playing around a bit in 2d :) silly me...

goktug: thank you so much. now i have granted me with my concept add on a lot of little zb sessions and a'm very happy about that! thanks for visit!

Raven: Yeah, i give hummingbitrd a try. lol, i'll try standard particlaearray, if not satisfying sandblaster, cuz i still work on 5.1, i dont have particleflow

Ok, here's the 1st pets a scientific explaination:

http://www.angel3d.ch/content/3d/wip/masterandservant/xtra/squibbling.jpg

squibbus Dragonensis are a very rare northern species and well known to be elfs
best friend, they are fast smart and a little shy, can also be sighted when dance in the morning fog with elvish folks. in the young age learn they cant fly, after that are fast runners and most elegant dancers....

I've been refraining from posting because you're always so busy answering everyone but I just couldn't resist anymore! The squib is so cute! And Inspiratia so beatiful!

I don't agree that the creatures should necessarily be delicate because inspiration (or imagination) is a powerful thing - making them cute was a good option.

And thank you so much for the tuts and tips. Although I'm stuck back at Max 2.5 there's a lot basic stuff that I can still use.

I won't be posting again for a while (I rather have you working than answering me  !) but I'll be watching!

The modeling is going very well .. of all your characters actually. It was not an easy read to go through I must insist.

As for your last post. His skin so ressembles the feel of the thin membrane of a fish-skin. Which is really not what I had expected from the ripples along the back in the modeling. But the general of it is very adorable and fitting to everything you have showed up til now.

I guess you are of the few that has not set gor to get the upper hand of the work.

It's all fitting in place very nicely!

There goes me and names again!
I did a quick search for it and the nam is JIMMY neutron. Sorry Here (http://www.offthestreets.co.uk/tv/pictures/Jimmy_Neutron.jpg) is a small image.. I found alot of picturs of Jimmy, but not much of his friend. The character I am talking about is the fat kid in the back.

I think loosing a model is like spilling coffee or soup (long story) over your keyboard... You always end up getting a better keyboard for an extra cost.
I am sure you'll create a something better. Apparently we all are.

BlackDidThis: hehehe, thank you, now i think i remember i see it once, on cartoon networks, is that possible? he made a bus a spaceship and they were flying to the moon. Uhm, i stop comment this, i really take care my inner child is staying alive and has much fun...
You are right, every time you do it again, you already know possible mistakes or difficulties and things go so much faster everytime you do it again. I lost all my data twice, and had to do all my 3d things again from the scratch or very very oldversions wich resulted the same, and whatever i done, the new version was faster and even closer to the idea than before. :) so no hard feelings, thanks mate! I already feel a bit better, things don't come up as fast as usual, but i just finnishes a small detail i was feeling like to post to show a sign of life. I'll try to continue, i had 2 days i spent at home, sick, lol, trying to model and paint with fever, spent 60% of the time in the bed or on the porcelan trone... thank you very much my friend! best of all to you too!

korayarts: Thank you so much my friend! :) I'll give my best to get all my pets as cute as possible :) keep on going too!

suk-grigorij: Not a good idea. should be hard to continue make cool cg if you're dead. am not sure if they have cg applications in heaven or hell... except 1 thing. i am sure in hell, if billy boy arrives there, he'll get a helldows xxxp and has to install bugfixes to the end of time...

rattlesnake: Thank you so much bro! I am actually a bit confused, stressed, so muh to do, such a weak machine, so little time and not on 100% of my capabileties. but I wont give myself a breaak or give up... whatever it takes, i'll finnish this one as good as i can! thanks for the visit Jorge, and keep on rocking!!!

Nixor: Nick! wow! you READ THAT ALL!!! oh my, !!! Thank you so much for your visit!!!

Kanga: THankk you very much! Well we have tales here locally about elves, normally mountain Farmers meet them in the forests and fall in love with em and are stupid enough to fail the elves what causes a not very happy end. hahahaha. local tales. we don't have fairies as far as i know in outr local tales, but i love em very much, and thought for little friends for my godess of inspiration and creation, the little fairy would fit well :) thank you very much my friend for your observation! oh, yes, i was inspired much of the substorytelling on the old-irish mythology, the earthgodess and her servant the human king of the woods, who's fullfilling her will on the world of mortals, bringing her will, the laughter and the beauty as her representant and servant, in this case as an artist, to come to life... thank you very much for your close look!

ABZ: THank you for watching. well, the wings are simply using the slice option of max's symetry modifier my way: i scanned the wings i drawn. i modeled the polys along the lines. then applied the displacement modifier on a copy of it and used the inverted drawing as displacement map, then applied the symetry modifyer and had the "frame of the wings" in 3d :) the undisplaced original builds the membrane. thats it :)

for wireframeshading, there's 3 cool ways.
1) use shaded version of max. thats the simple one you're looking at.
2) create a square in photoshop. white or light grey. select all, modify selection, boarder, make the boarder black. name it "wf_facemap.jpg" for example. now back in max, load the "wf_facemap.jpg" into a new materials diffuse colorslot. check facemap. and here goes shaded wireframe.
3) make sure it is a editable poly. switch to subobject mode edge. select all edges. hit create shape from selected eges, in the menu that posps up, hit line, on the now created shape, check, renderable, sides 4, assing any material to it you like, and render it.
looks very nice that way.
also, you can combine 2 and 3... to make an "ultradeluxe very odd special premium wireframepresentation"... just in case you feel like doing that :)

3d for everything: Thank you very much!

Miyagi: Thank you mate, i am very happy you like my work :)

Real Capri: Hehehe, servant bows and says thankeees!

Sonja: thanks! thanks thanks!

Deadly Force: THank you very much! THe transition is planed to be some fluffy hair/feather like things like those on puffy fluffy butterflys... thank you very much for your visit mate!!!

d-tox: Thanks mate! cheers!

Michael: Thank you very much my friend! yes i was aware they look like working, for little fairy here... thank you so much! bout my speed. i still feel a bit sick. was very religious last 2 days, been prying to the porcelain altat on my knees and sayin "oh my god..." before bowing down for giving my deepest inside in there... uhm... but i already feel better. today i could eat and keep it. and am very happy i could model a bit. I'll burst my nitro tomorrow again i hope, i get better... :) thanks for your encouragemennt and look over my friend!

Keep it ap, all of you, thank you very much for your support! Best luck and have a lot of fun, cheers

The fairy is looking pretty good (great wings! ).
The ears look a little odd (not really sprite-ish); they look more like regular human ears with a spikey-point at the tips.

ArtisticVisions: thanks mate. the ears should look more funna fter the zbrush workup i hope. i imagine fairyears pionty. she also has a pointy nose. and pointy wings. is pointy propably a nice name for a fairy?... uhm. goin back to clothes after dinner :) thanks for your look over!

alex.h.: Zbrush and Texturing are one step away, i'll keep it up mate! oh, 2 steps. shitty painfull unwrapping. uhm, will keep me busy for a few mins as well... sigh... thanks a lot for your visit mate!

beelow: thanks a lot mate! keep on goin, and bout zbrush... yeh, its a crazy good tool, lovin it!

alexfalch: THANKS YOU SO MUCH! well yours look cool and funny and i love the plants, gave me a great laugh! keep it up mate, looking forward to your next update as well!

mireneye: yes, its going to be a very sweet and unusual loveley work i hope. i try to approach a way that lets the servant act in love for his godess, and all the little thingies around her are the gift of her in exchange for his dedication... being her tool for her power of creation... trying to approach it this way...

thanks for the visits my friends, I'll be back here with an update here soon i hope! keep it up my friends!

Great modeling and detail. I really like it. About how many polygons are we looking at her in your last image? 20236 polys, 18804verts, not much, pet and fairy together... :) hehe, low polycount, cuz i'll have many objects, i keep polycount as low as possible, i'll have 7 actors and a whole environment to handle... thanks for watching! keep it up!

ssjgogetta thaks a lot mate!

Goin back to model, was helping a friend so time passed without any progress... keep it up mates, i'll be back!

Wow! Sacha, your fairy really gets me! :)

I'm one of those people who's always loved just the idea of fairies. (Hell, on some level I even still believe they exist.) It's a really nice idea to keep one as the Goddess' familiar / pet.

I'm putting in my vote for tousled sun-bleached or moss-green hair on mahogany skin. I've always liked the idea that fairies would be full-on physicalizations of nature, and many would be the mobile spirits of trees. And please keep her naked! This isn't Disney; I've always thought that real fairies wouldn't even know what clothes are, let alone feel like sitting still for long enough to make them.

Now, this is going to sound strange, but I'd recommend going simpler on the wings. Something that small wouldn't have vestigal wings; they'd be properly useful, I imagine. Those wings are incredibly beautiful, but they'd never fly! I know there's lots of magic in your image but even magical creatures come from a basis in reality, in my opinion. Something like dragonfly wings would be perfect, I think.

Of course, vestigal wings would mean smaller breasts due to the musculature needed to keep them beating. I loved how they did the angel Gabriel in Constantine because they had just enough chest there to suggest a merging between male and female as well as a moderately good musculature.

Also, I've been thinking that the Goddess could give little items of doting to her creatures. Like, maybe the fairy could have a human-size ring dangling around her neck like a collar, etc.

I'm always amazed when you post a new image -- keep going!

Sorry, but I am still dead:eek: , consider me a zombie:scream: . By the way, it's not as hot in here, as i expected. Hey wait a minute... Who is this? Hey, it's billy boy. Guess what is he doing.

Ok. Seriously now. I like the model of character (the one with the wings), but her forehead is a bit flatter than it should be:wise: . It gives me a sence that she is a weakminded a bit (Please don't be offended). Nothing else to critique.

My best wishes to you.

Greetings Sasha!

Just came over from Vampeta's thread and happend to click on the links for your 2D- and 3D-entries for this "Master and Servant"-challange in one of the postings there. I also looked over at your personal website. I'm floored... period! Most amazing drawing and modelling skills you possess. Your character "Gini" is very beautiful... a nice mixture of Manga-style and some Jamesart.com touch. Really a sweet digital temptation in pixels :)

I should really put shells and compilers aside from time to time and try to develop my drawing- and modelling-skills and so I can do something with my Realsoft3D-license :-)

Surely I'll follow your progess here too now!

Best regards...

MacSlow

kattkieru: Hi mate. thanks a lot for your inputs. i have designed a full set of clothes made of plants for her to keep the look very organinic. going to start on them now. was too tired yesterday. if i don't like the result, i still can delete them and go for a nude fairy :)
one thing is for sure, she'll have a very natural apearrance, and i will try to keep her as sweet as possible. the idea with the ring is very cool. i maybe play around with some "gadgets and gifts" and give your input there a try. very cool idea. thank you very much for your look over and i hope you will like my next update! keep it up mate! cheers!

gra7: thank you so much my friend! keep it up!

suk-grigorij: thanks for the look over. hahahahaha, yeah, billy boy's eternal sp's. lol. goin to tweak her forehead, thanks for that input! keep it up mate!

crapple: thank you very much!

MacSlow: Thank you very much! hehe, i'm not much into manga's, but love em comics in general. my strongest influences in my toonstyle came from my youth i think, i have many french comics i read and and i had a very sweet muse for gini. but... oh my, she's unfinnished and i wanted her to be ready for d'artiste as well. i better get modeling :)
thank you so much for all those compliments, well apreciated and am very happy you like my style. Keep it up mate!

THanks everyopne for comments and encouragements! goin to get busy now and hope i got a nice update later today here :) best of all to all of you, keep on rockin'!!!
