Looking good, but still has room for improvement on the animation. It seems to me the arms and tail lack movement. I believe the arms should swing or have some kind of movement as the t rex walks. Also I find the tail kind of stiff and a little too high.
Keep the good work. :)

Looks pretty good. The bigest thing I notice was a lack of feel of wieght. The trex did not feel like he was 9 millon pounds. (Estimated wieght not scientificly predicted) I think the majot part was when the trex stepped down and you heard the bangs as each foot hit the ground, the the trex's body didn't seem like it reached properly to all the weiht hitting the ground. Look forward to seeing the progress on this one.

everything's beautiful except for the animation.... are you rotoing this? cuz i haven't seen the movie in a while, but the basic movements look really similar.
a basic rule with REALLY heavy creatures like this is SLOW anticipation and FAST release. The slower the anticipation (i.e. when his foot goes up to take a step), the heavier the creature looks. the faster you release, (i.e. when his foot comes down) the more overall weight...
Also, how much time are you spending in the graph editor tweaking your curves. that's where you should be spending the majority of your time. beautiful model, though.

Thanks, No it wasn't a rotoscope animation...I just looked at the scene a few times, to get an idea of the key positions. then I used the audio to time the footsteps etc.
The arms and tail havent really been animated yet...A couple keyframes on the tail, but that will change after I get some better looking weight in the main body...(A couple zillion more pounds!)
I don't have an update ready yet, I have been concentrating on other stuff. (lighting textures effects.) I updated the first image in the thread.
Thanks for your critques. I will try to make it better.

Looking pretty awesome. The only thing that's sticking out at me for some reason is when the T-Rex looks to his right. I haven't seen the movie in a while, but I think that even though the pose is right, the timing or something is a little off somehow. I'll pop in the DVD later and see if I can be more specific.
He's glancing at the truck to our left though, right? I think maybe the movement just needs some refinement. He may just need to swivel his head more downward, to actually see the truck (?).
Overall a great effort so far. Looking forward to the final piece!

Thanks, I think you are right. It bothers me too. I will fix the pose slightly and adjust the timing.

That's friggin' awesome man, but yea...you've definitely improved on the animation. I would say you should start adding more detail to the scene, like trees.....more detail to the roads and cars, and the rain...etc. I think you got a great start going....so, keep it up! I would love to see updates. Jurrasic Park is one of my favorite movies and that scene is one of my favorites as well, so good luck!

I have a update on the animation, but I am going to consolidate this tread into my WIP thread. (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=211153&page=2&pp=15)http://www.joel3d.com/JPG/T.Rex/JPrender.gif

wow, lots of improvements on the animation! it's definately a step in the right direction.
one thing i noticed is that a lot of your spacing is really linear. for example, at the very start, when the rex leans his whole body down and is tearing the fence. He's moving at pretty much the same speed the whole time with an ease into the next key. You should be favoring an extreme. (if you're not sure what i mean by this, picture the bouncing ball example. the ball stays almost suspended in the air, then GAINS speed as it heads toward the ground. That's called NON-LINEAR SPACING. Your rex needs to be GAINING speed as his body comes down and catches all his weight. and his body needs to almost suspend itself in the air when he lifts himself up, again, cuz of all that lizard weight! :) This should be happening pretty much throughout the whole shot with almost every part of his body, cuz he's such a big creature. i'd almost double the anticipation and release of everything. if the anticipation is slow, make it even slower, and make the release even faster. He's definately looking heavier, but still not heavy enough.
keep it up, man! it's definately getting there!

Hey Capel, Thanks for the good directions! I am really honored to get advice from such talented animators like you.
yeah, I guess I tend to keep it too even. I will go back in and exaggerate the curves!
I posted another update if you are interested, New updates can be found here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=211153&page=2&pp=15)
