View Full Version : Messiah:Studio demo?
the_entity 03-21-2005, 04:40 AM I'm very interested in Messiah:Studio's renderer after looking at some of the amazing stuff Taron has done. I am a zbrush user and I like how Messiah handles displacement maps. I was wondering if there was a demo version of it, so that I could test it out my self and see if i'm comfortable with it.

yeah, it's cheap compared to other apps..but I prefer testing out something before actually buying it

While the Studio version has no demo you could give Messiah Animate (demo) a whirl so you can at least get the feeling of how Messiah's UI works. Also take a look at Gary's awesome tutorial for setting up a global illumination scene to get the gist of how the renderer works...that's one of the videos that swayed my purchasing decision. :)
Here's a link to "Chikega's Corner" where you can find the GI tutorial along with all of Gary's other tips'n'tuts. http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=125001&page=3

I'm planning on getting Studio Workstation soon, I was also a bit hesitant to spend money on something that I can't try first & I'm also more interested in the render section. As a Lightwave user the material/shader section just confuses the hell out of me but I've downloaded a Softimage demo (which has a similar system) & it's helped me quite a bit. I can generally pick things up quite quickly & if I'm gonna spend $299 on a CD then I'll certainly have some motivation:D
It's a bit cheesey & sounds like a bit of a cop-out but the software is just a tool. If you know what you want to do, then you only need to work out how to do it. The guys at pmG have been extremely helpful to me & I haven't even bought anything yet. The software is regularly updated, the users seem friendly enough & , for what you get, Messiah is very cheap....hell, I'm trying to sell it & I don't even have it yet:D

Yeah, I really like the modular shading system, everything seems so easy. The rendering speed is also amazing! Now if only there was a demo

I feel for ya man, I was going through the same thing before I bought it. As far as the material system goes...I primarily use Cinema 4D for my rendering and that has a very easy to use material editor but Messiah Studio's node based shaders give you more control which is cool. Just after running through a quick basic tutorial that the cd comes with I had a good understanding of it. I hope you find your decision...I know 300 bucks is not much in the realm of 3d applications but to some people that's a good chunk of change.

Haha oh well damn 300 bucks would be a good chunk then for a 15 year old. :) Hmm, go tell your parents you really want Maya Unlimited then when the price of that shocks them say "Oh but I guess I could use Messiah Studio (workstation) it's only $299..." ;)

It's a pretty big chunk for a 28yr old too, I'm not sure my girlfriend would fall for the Maya thing so I guess it's back to selling stuff on ebay:)
