I have a problem that I've tried to solve for about the last 2 weeks.

I have a weapon that I am ready to map. I've done weapons before, but this time I've
decided to make my own textures instead of just throw some seamless pictures on them.

It is a low poly model right now. I have tried mesh smoothing it then turning it into a mesh.
I then have this heavy model that is very difficult to select polys to map.

Do you map a model using the low polys or do you map using hi polys?

Is there a tute somewhere that explains this?

I haven't found any tutorials on the net explaining this. It seems to be some kind of secret that people don't want to share.

Thanks for any help at all!!

hello, i dont know of a tut off hand but in my opion unw rap in low poly and then throw a meshsmooth over it, ur meshsmooth should be higher then 1 anyway, and if it is go in there and add more detail. i had a few sec's so here is a make shift tut..

Frist u start with ur object.......

Then u put a uvw map or uwv unwrap on to it, and make sure everything squares up

Then add what ever texture u want to it, i just added colour u will see why now..
