Title: The Berserker
Name: Dominic Qwek
Country: Singapore
Software: 3ds max, Brazil r/s, Photoshop, ZBrush

What inspired this character were orcs and dragons/ dragon kin. I tried to fuse the 2 races together to see what I would get. This guy would be around 3 times the height of an average man and very bestial. The accessories were inspired by demonic figurines and also to incorporate that mythical look. At the same time, I didn't want to make the berserker look all god-like, hence I added in some cuts and bruises. Modeled, UVed and rigged in 3dsmax, Zbrush for displacements, photohshop for textures and rendered with Brazil with a seperate pass for rim lighting. All C&C welcomed as usual.
Check out my modeling and texturing reel (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=221111) to see some turntables of the Berserker.

I'll agree with the chain thing. Also, this is a really cool creature and I really like his axe, but he is very hard to read right off the bat. You have to really look at him to see any of the cool details you put in. Once you do start to really look at it though, its very well done. I'd just suggest some more contrast.

Cheers

every chain link seems rotated exactly 90 degrees to the next one.
i can't tell what the material on the club is supposed to be...metal, bone or stone it all kind of melds together for me.
other than its pretty cool.

Great modelling
Maybee you have to do something about the black blackground to get some more contrast in your pic because the berserker is the main subject of the pic and you want to show off with that. (just my opinion)

Wow Dom, you out did yourself on this guy! I like the color scheme you have for him; he looks ready for the battle field.

Is he set for anim?

looks great, but I can't see the render clearly enough - too much darkness, any chance of getting a relit scene ;)?

good work,

Jules

// just done a quick test in PS +10 brightness, +20 contrast does wonders, demonstrates the beautiful texture work much better...

another great model, kinda ruined by ineffective lighting. Oh well, your lighting skills are better then my modelling skills.

V1PER- tks for pointing that out.

calinmatney- I've made some changes to the lighting. hope it looks better now.

b-element- thanks

tomas- i'm afraid I don't understand you, could you explain again? Sorry.

clodhopper- well the weapon is mainly metal, but i wanted it to look like it had a boney form. Probably have to work on the materials so that it looks clearer. thanks!

Krimble- yeah I made the contrast for the characters a lil higher. hope it looks better now. I don't want to constantly tweak this image. this IS a finished work gallery you know. anyway, thanks for the crit.

Joss- thanks! I'm glad you like the colors. he's only rigged to pose at the moment, and currently I dont have any plans to animate him.

gui_mends-thanks!

Droolz- well I did some fixes to the image a bit, I hope it looks better on your end. I'm concerned though, you mentioned the image is too dark?

percydaman- yeah, I really have to work on my lighting. I'll take extra care in future.

ynlay- tks man.

joel3d- noted with thanks.

Keep the crits coming guys. I'm gathering them to see what are the areas I need more improvement in as an artist. Thanks again.
