View Full Version : displacement in XSI
machuc 02-12-2002, 09:15 PM Hi, is there a way of having displacement maps visible in the camera view without doing a preview? or maybe freeze the displacement to create a new complex geometry?
or is there another type of displacement, one that we can actually see without having to make renders?
thanks in advance!

Short answer, no there is not.
Long answer, yes. But you have to do it in Softimage3D using a tool called deformation>bumpmap+. I'm sure that this tool will make it into XSI soon enough. (It's been requested a lot.) But I'm not sure exactly when. Until then, the render region is all you've got to go on.

Hope they put it in with the next release of XSI !!! along with rigid body-s.... !!! :)
I-ve used bumpmap+ before in soft3d, I just thought that in XSI we would be able somehow to have something similar... looking forward to it tho!
thanks for the answer Ed!
