View Full Version : What do you expect from Maya 7?

Everybody knows Maya is well stablished in the FX and films and is getting more space in game design. Alias was sold to be more independent. Them, Alias bought Kaydara.

Avid, who has a small market share (compared to Max and Maya), desperatelly, dropped it's price and put the crowd simulator (that didn't sell well) in the advanced version to help to sell more XSI seats.
Discreet, to try to keep the leadership (at least in number of users), instead of dropping Max's price, they put hair, cloth and dynamics integrated.

What can we expect from Alias' reaction to this?

What a tough market...

I expect this can be the year of the great plugin renders for Maya.
And maybe, realtime animation and some more tools from Motion Builder in Maya.

What do you think Maya will have to compete with this?

Alias buys side-effects and houdini.

well, i think alias, after they maked 6.5 faster than ever, they will change the interface from scratch to scratch to make-it more usable and a lot better looking. At least i hope to get a gray maya with grayish icons :) .

And ofcourse MotionBuilder will give it's technology to maya...

another thing would be MUCH BETTER poly-modeling tools, and if thy include BPT it would be 300% better than current maya poly-modeling tools :D

buy Byron! buy Byron! buy Byron! buy Byron! buy Byron! buy Byron! buy Byron!

most things can be done via mel but maybe a more interactive way to write expressions allong with a data base of most commonly used expressions that corrispond to the attributes that they can be used by... that would be my dream... dynamics with no programming. ill keep dreaming for now.

rebo: hA! that's a good one... who will be able to afford maya then? its going to prolly sky rocket to 25 000 per licence... >_<

yashu:

alias as i remember already baught the rights to kayadara's motion bulider... but i am not sure all i know is what's on thier webpage.

as for the interface... i like it just fine the way it is... the UI is clear and easy to get around in. so i dont quite understand why you would complain

but if you dont like it you can always customize... but dont skins take up presouse resourses that you might need for rendering... modelling animation ect?

i dont know the option would be nice though.

Alias buys side-effects and houdini.

Is this a joke?:)

Even if it was serious, it would be nice... the next gen. particle system could born inside Maya... And bring all that talent pool to Alias.

Alias buys Modo and implements it as a plugin.

Edge loop Select
Edge Ring Select
Connect selected edges
Edge Loop Split

I know these are scripts already, but it would be nice too see them implemented into Maya itself. :)

yeap it would be nice to have them impelemented as plugins with no bugs and with a Slider and Normal control like OMToolBox has.

another thing: revise the move, scale, rotate tools and add tools to them like Align Move direction to the selection average... custom manipulator like that in bounus tools, but impelmted as a plugin not as a script with expressions...

well, i'd like them to finally improve all little things that make big pains in buts and why not add another Revolutionarry thing to maya Unlimitted.
