Hi all,
Has anyone tried Wavgen? It allows unlimited texture maps - or rather that's what they claim. They have an animation where they show screen captures of them using it inside of Lightwave using a very large image map and it appears to have no problems with memory limits. Looks promising but don't want to fork over up to $850 bucks if it doesn't work. I talked to a guy who has it for Max and he likes it a lot. Here's the link

I think http://www.infinimap.com/ does a similar thing. Lightwolf, the guy that made this plugin, has his homepage at http://www.gadget.de/ so you may be able to contact him from there if you have any questions.

Thanks I'll give it a try. Free is better than $850 sometimes.... ;-)

Thanks for the link Karmacop! The InfimapSE plugin works great and the writer of it is just amazingly helpful! No more image map limits I think!

Lightwolf did not make this plugin, Terratracer did and hired him to just do a portion. The original ideas came from the Owners of WavGen Incorportaed (Mohnen, McCarty, Palmer), and the guys doing the Tour de France Animations (www.terratracer.com) and the founders of www.ermapper.com.

Infinimap is flawless, it does what it boasts, it does it well.

once you tweak your personal settings to prevent flickering of hi rez ECW files for your animation, it is as if you dont even notice you are using hundreds of megabyte files in your work,, there is no slowing of your system,, no crashing...

there is a bit of a lengthy wait though once you first load the image into the plugin after you assign the plugin to your object, so load and go get some coffee and smoke em if you got em,,, but once they are loaded in and the scene/objects are saved you will never have to deal with the load wait again.

.................................................

also the ECW import / export plugin for photoshop doesnt work with CS2 but will with CS1... the JPG2000 plugin is a better choice. google to find these plugins foir photoshop.

Since these original posts I've gotten Infinimap Pro - and I have to say it's just an amazing product. I couldn't be happier with this plugin. It does exactly what it promises to do. Highly recommended!

I have been using Infinimap for just about a year now and we have completed over 4 massive projects that we would not have been possible without Infinimap. It is really one of the most useful and practical plug-in's I have ever used. It just solves the problem without complications and the value we derive from it is much greater than the (extremely resonable) price.

Finally, in response to what Jorg said, there are always two sides to each story. For my part, I can unequivocally state that LightWolf is one of the most helpful and intelligent people I have ever come across in this industry.

I used WavGen at my last job with Maya and it was extremely nice.
