this is a great pic. well modelled and well lit. however, i think the volumetric lights are overkill. id like to c this image without them, or maybe with them just subtly showing. rite now, all my attention is drawn to the rays of light instead of to the beautiful modelling, and the great lighting work behind it.

still though, nice image!

Great work especially the modeling.
The minor thing I would say would be the lightning as Abigor already mentioned. Personally I think it's a little too much.
My idea would be to reduce the volume light completely or to concentrate the volume light in one spot at the steps. Afterward put a person into that light to give it some dramatic expression.

Nevertheless it's a great pic. If you don't wanna work anymore on it just forget my comment.

- That's quite a model.
- The volume effect looks like something from a horror film. :)
- It must have taken quite a while to model all that detail. Good job!

Nice one  !
I would suggest adding some stars, perhaps the moon on the background. Any evidence that it is the sky actually.

Thank you for your comments, and of course, thank you for the front page :)

Here you have a solid image before texturing or lighting, and a wire of all scene inside Lightwave, after model all elements in Modo.

I find it a very nice model - the streaking lighting is way over the top for me, really. I prefer the lighting of the day-lit image you posted.

Thumbs up, though :)

Did you use multiple spot lights for volumetric light or one big pointlight with volumetrics on?

It's a very cool picture man! But, I'm from the Czech Rep. and I don't recognize it (well, it might just be my lack of history knowledge thou), where exactly is this cathedral from? What city and what is its name? Other than that http://www.cgtalk.com/images/rating/rating_4.gif from me man!

But according to the volumetric light, it seems that your building ground floor does not have a celing and the top floor doesn't have a floor

Wow that's kick ass. Can you pull your camera in closer to one of those surrounding steeple-pillars. Those look really cool. I'd like to take a closer look at their design.

Or maybe you could copy one and render it alone. That would probably reduce your render time considerably. Looks great anyway though.

Again thank you for your comments :) ... i am now rendering the hires print version, with minor changes in textures ...

Volumetric lighting has been made with spotlights with volumetric effect inside Lightwave. As i say before, it is inspired in a old drawing of a chaletdral ... i have no source to see what building is, but it have a lot of "free" details, so i dubt it is close to reality.

Enhorabuena juanjo, un trabajo increible. Me uno a los comentarios acerca de las luces volumétricas, si las bajas en intensidad creo que la imagen ganará muchísimo al perder esa espectacularidad excesiva que quizá no corresponda con el edificio.

No obstante, reitero mi enhorabuena y añado unas pocas estrellitas :-)

I love the lighting the way it is. With normal lights, it'd be an awesome picture of a cathedral, but little else. As it is, there's a horror theme in it, there's something going on in there, and it's making me curious.

I can imagine walking by it and the light flaring up like that, an electric scent in the air and some strange sort of hum. Very, very inspiring work.

Am I alone to disagree with this piece?
this volume light make non sense for me,
No mood, no point of darkness in this image.
I guess you worked a lot to make this picture,
and I used to see better work from you.
You should turn off this volume light, and put some small point of light,
that will make your picture more illustrative.

Sorry, but i don't like it

Nice modeling, impressive piece for sure.

However, I'm defenitely not a fan of the atmosphere, volumetric light is not subtle enough for my taste... at a point that it even makes me wonder if it's not there just to fill up holes or lack of textures on the windows.

Another thing that sorta killed the thing for me was the low detailing of all the elements on the foreground, why not putting an extra effort on the stairs and wall in front when you spent so much time modeling a detailed Cathedral.

Lighting is made to show a diferent piece far from my normal realistic style ... huge volumetrics comes from the idea of a foggy enviroments with a hi intensity lighting source inside it. As you can undestand foggy enviroment oclude any background detalis, like stars ...

Thank you anyway for your points of view ... it is always a way of make better works and to see what people see good or bad in a work :)

great use of lighting, especially through the windows and the dust. Did you embellish a bit on the original church design or is this what it really looks like?? Would look nice with maybe a dark brown/orange type clouded sky in the background but, at any rate better than what I can do at the moment. Really nice architectural modelling.

Resurection is nothing short of magnificent. The amount of detail and work that's gone in here is worthy of it being given Front Page status. A definite plus for any portfolio and if I were a games company I'd snap you up immediately, Senor Diaz!

I like it very much! Beautifull model and great ambience! Should be a scary view for someone who passes by :)

I agree, it's an incredible model!

As to scary...light eminating from a church, a cathedral, scary?
Well, I guess that would depend on who or what walks by. :D
Personally I think it's a very inspiring image. Warm Holy light that pierces
through the darkness. I like the truthful concept and symbolism as well as the modeling extravaganza!
By the way, is modeling with modo way better (night and day) than LW or just somewhat better?

Hi Goron, why would you want a "point of darkness"? The volumetric light, I think, is awesome. Obviously it's about symbolism and what's wrong with that? IE... Holy Light!
And, about being illustrative, ironically and amusingly, the webster's dictionary defines "illustrate" as:
1. to purify, make bright.
So according to Webster, this is an illustration thanks to the volumetric light.:D :applause:
3. to make clear
4. to show clearly; to give an example or instance.
Definition of illustration as:
2b. a picture or diagram that helps make something clear or attractive.

I think the work is attractive!
An "illustration" is not confined to a photographic style of work.
