Hi all.

If you look at my model here:

http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9010&perpage=15&pagenumber=2

You'll see that I have modelled our little Jedi Master.

I'd like some advice on how to surface his clothes. Upto now, my main focus has been on modelling.

I was wondering whether his cloak would best be surfaced using

i) procedurals

or

ii) image maps

or some combination of both?

If I can get hold of a digital photo scan of similar cloth, is that going to be any good as a surface?

Cheers

Richard

I'd go for a combination of both - image maps would be useful for the colour, diffuse, and spec maps, and procedurals would be cool for the bump map :)

Leigh,

Cheers for that. I think that proper "Cloth" look is going to be difficult to achieve.

Have you seen it done anywhere well? (with LW?)

Cheers

Hmmm... I can't really think offhand of any examples done in LW....
Perhaps you could browse through the gallery on lightwave3d.com?
I've done cloth before, and it's not particularly difficult :)
Obviously, it really depends on the kind of fabric you are trying to recreate, but generally, for the actual coarse texture of the fabrc (ie the weave), procedurals work perfectly. The it's just a matter of making the colour maps, and so on.
