I am looking to buy some software apps.
I have zbrush, love it. Has anyone who has zbrush tried bodypaint 3d?
are its lighting painting tools better than zbrush`s?
I know it doesnt do modelling. But its used by sony and the biggest 3d firm in europe.CFC.

and Ive been trialling cinema4D 9 but havent tried much of max demo.
max has a LOT. I wouldnt be able to learn it all, but I wouldnt use all the tools anyway,
animation is key for me. I like the plugins you can get with max, CAT and catmuscle.
facestation, hercules plugin from di-o-matic for easymuscle creation.

cinema4D has great workflow and awesome physics, flexible lighting etc, but
the animation possibilities seem limited compared to max.
can I have some feedback from anyone more experienced?

sincerely
Mark J.

Zbrush's power lies in its normal map and displacement map generation, and its displacement modeling system. While it can be used for UV editing and texture painting, its workflow and paint system (while having really smooth brushes like painter) is pretty bad, not its strong point by any means

Bodypaint on the other hand cannot do normal maps or displacement generation, you can paint displacement maps, but no realtime feedback. As a UV editing solution and texture painting solution it is a far more ideal package with better image layer handling, better support for the photoshop format, and more consitent workflow to photoshop then zbrush. Also it favors a one click transportation of object and textures to BP and one click back rather then dealing with exporting and importing back and forth.

in terms of third party solutions for character animation, max is definitely ahead of cinema no doubt about it. max's built in animation capabilities are designed more consistently with the rest of the industry then cinema's as well. both are very capable though. Max has a nicer timeline and fcurve then cinema, but I'll warn you now, compared to cinema, max's speed when editing multiple keys in either manager is horrible. Moving keys on 20 objects at one time in max ins a painful experience regardless of its timeline being nicer to deal with.

one last thing to consider, BP integrates directly into cinema, which is awesome, it has a one click back and forth solution with max, which is good, and zbrush does not have a direct connection to either.
