Hi,

I have a few questions about Mental Ray and Subdivs. ((Im running maya 6.0.)) Im finally understanding what subdivs are, and the advantages and the disadvantages. It seems that mental ray dosn't support subdivs, unless u collapse hierarchy (im not sure what that dose, i justk know it will allow it to render). Another question is i read that collapseing the hierarchy, will allow mental ray to render the scene but, i heard that the renders would be slower is this ture? My 3rd questions is, im planing to rig the character for animation etc. Is there any other problems that i might run into with subdivs? With painting weights, or with IK, etc. Are there any other problems?

Thanks

your best bet is to make a low res version for wrap deforming, an up date the sub-d , also youll want to warp defom in section maya can act funny if you wrap the whole object, also dont wrap a vertex twice youll get double transform,

for some unknown reason maya MR dosent like 3sided or 5sided polys , the collaping makes your model all quad allowing you to render in MR

hope that helps
