View Full Version : Living Mechanics - cyborg
funkychild 09-23-2002, 01:37 AM I'm working on this for a contest - the topic being 'Living Mechanics'. In this piece, I'm heavily influenced by my favourite manga, Blame! and it's no doubt going to come through in the final image.
I'm aiming for a slightly similar style of character to what's in this image (http://zigguratbuilder.nu/manga/blame/main/b2back.JPG) from Blame!.
Here's my first rough render. I think I need to work on the shape of the head a little bit (my first 3dcg head), however I still want to keep it looking a bit alien and not too realistic.

Thanks for the comments, all :) Gotta keep working on it when I can find some time.

I like All the SPike stick on the back of its neck.
HAHAHA....
Allow me to ask, issit an inspiration from the Manga comic - BLAME! Cuz it looks quite like dat. So, i suggest u keep the spike ,so it wont make the others think like wat i thinking now.
The spike is unique for quite sometimes even it looks kinda weird.
Well, actually we are looking at the weird stuff. Why not making as weird as it can be? Good job...

It's been ages, but I've dragged this old thing out recently to play with it a bit more. Yes I'm still funkychild - I just made a new account so I could change my nickname.
dinodog, yes as I mentioned earlier, It's very influenced by Blame!.
Here's what I'm up to now:

And here's a link to a better concept sketch (http://m477.com:9000/blender/living_mechanics/concept.jpg) of where I want to take this now.

looking very good so far..................i think it would look cool if you added some mechanics to the upper part of his head

sorry i didn't read ur very first posting description.
So, wat is the latest episodes u got in store now?
I got only Episodes 7 so far. I can't wait to see more brutal action from this exciting creator!
Anyway, i had look thru ur sketching for this mechanic robot. It might looks really cool figure if both legs & arms are longer & not shorter. Maybe u drew it in a 45 degree bird view?
Add some mechanic part on his head might be cool. But it might spoilt the beauty of this organic. Is fine to let its face smooth & clean. Maybe just some scars on texture later.
Everybody listen here, Matt_e is not modelling another robotic from our western robot mechanic. This is something not brand new, but enuff to stimulate ur vision wif something u want to see.
Spent some time & analysis another new dimension of cybotic or bionic designing from this manga -Blame! Highly Recommended!
(well, part of the design might similar to "hellraiser", but wif a more destroying equipment & ultra-evil attacking suicidal skills.

Update with some changed proportions, small corrections and modifications, and started work on the back:
http://m477.com:9000/blender/living_mechanics/wip07.jpg
Thanks for the comments! I don't want to add anything to the head - I'd rather keep it pristine and smooth. One of the main things I want to express in this model is a contrast between soft, smooth, clean and sharp, mechanical, complex.
Dinodog: I've only got up to book 3 so far :( Books 4, 5 and 6 are on order for me from Japan :D

dinodog_jr,
It's not available in English- I'm reading the original Japanese books. I can get them imported from Japan at a Japanese bookshop here in Sydney. I understand some Japanese, so I can generally understand the story (especially since there's very little dialogue :))

well, i got until Episodes 7 (After 1 year)....Got a new cool cop-guy who control a level which is almost controlling by the silicon creatures. He was der to protect human from being hurt by tos danger species.
U can see this new guy cool-looking from the net somewhere. At episodes 6 , they got a micro capsule which contained some important compressed data of DNA. Given by the two "White Angel" warrirors. But they havent reveal the capsule yet. I hope they will finding a supercomputer to read something out from this capsule in the nxt episodes. THe story seems very dragging begin from the episodes 5. Sorry, cuz i am reading the chinese text. I dunno wat they called in English.
Btw, Do u ppl check it out a special edition which is explaining HOW was the Cyber Dungeon being interrupt by the bionic & silicon creatures. And the human ancestor who try hard protect human being from vanished in the planet Earth. We can oso see the progress of a planet earth become a horrible dungeon living by all the living dead creatures fighting each other for survive.
Any ppl knw other manga which is So ultra-cool like this one?I mean from artskills till storyline. haha, got another one is called "EDEN". I only read until episodes 2. Nice art & describe the Future desperate world wif confused cyborg fighting & hiding from fears & sorrow. Lotsa physcologist words which might need some time to understand & think twice.
ha..i still like BLAME!................
