currently what I have in there looks good zoomed out but it becomes purple and pink as you zoom in. Can anyone give me some guidelines?

Rent the movie Carrie or the movie The Shining. Both have good reference of lots of blood in one spot.

Would be good to give it some reflections, and add some swirlies to it like it has eddies and flows.

Blood is highly reflective, so definately get some good reflections or specular highlights in there, and then add some variety to the procedural noise you have, maybe mixing between several different types of noise at different scales so you get a far more complex bump map that looks better closer.

thanks for the help guys. Currently I'm using Maya and just used an Ocean Shader to put that in there. If anyone could give me a small step by step I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your input.
