View Full Version : Animated light streaks/rays
strangerthings 03-15-2005, 11:54 AM what's the best way to create streaky light rays that are fully animinatable. I have created the attached by using an extruded shape - and bend and taper modifiers.
They need to be able to bend / twist and follow a path so I presume that a parth extuded is the best way.
The material needs to ideally be a semi transparent glow - more alive than shown here. Think road light streaks like the second image,
Anybody have any ideas?
Many thanks in advance.

Did you tried moving omni lights with motion blur, maybe different camera passes?

Time ago i use a plugin called ghost trails, if you use Max 5 you'll can work on it for free but for Max 7 you must to pay. you find the plugin here http://www.maxplugins.de/
(http://www.maxplugins.de/)
But the scrimski tip could work, sounds logic.

Tried the omni idea - will take forever but would work!
Found the ghosttrail plug in looks good! Found this freebie effect too that work well and fast!

Probably would have found them myself - just was not thinking of the word 'trails'! just 'rays' and 'streaks'. Weird - well there are some keywords for the next person that needs this effect!
Thanks guys
