View Full Version : How to model a glass full of small rocks?
Peoples 03-15-2005, 09:51 AM Hi,
It's been a while since I posted here, but it's good to be back! I'm trying to model a flower in a glass full of tiny white rocks. Check the image:
A flower (http://www.tml.hut.fi/Opinnot/T-111.030/2005/asetelma-originaalit/01_sivusta.jpg)
Is there a smarter way to model the rocks in Cinema than one by one and placing them manually inside the glass? Can I use particles or something and restrict them inside the glass somehow?
I really appreciate the help if You know a way to do this :argh:

You might be able to fake it with a texture and use some spd for the top. Just thinking out loud...
For particles meaby the fizz plug-in can help (sorry I don't have a link).

I saw a cool rock slide somewhere done with Clothilde. make a bunch of pebbles with the landscape round object,m tag them with Clothilde and set stiffnens and friction real high. make the jar a collider with a tag and the "drop" the pebbles in. they should settle nicely from the .mov I saw.

Is it this one?
Rockslide.mov (http://homepage.mac.com/killbots/portfolio/rockslide.mov) (6MB)
The movie is from a Clothilde-thread (http://www.3dattack.net/forum/showthread.php?t=962) at 3DAttack.net.

Yeah.. That was it.. Couldn't remember wherwe I saw it but the light bulb went on big time. I liked the one where they attached a bunch of spheres to a mesh as a single object and then dumped them down a slide.. they rolled down perfectly. Just Cloth and a collider.

Here's another approach, excuse the quick & dirty render:

This could be done with either Jenna or DiTools. I used DiCloner++ to distribute a pebble object over the surface of a duplicated section of the interior of the glass. There's a secondary layer scaled down slightly to add depth and hide the fact that it's "hollow".
