SYNOPSIS

WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW?! is a new type of film. It is part documentary, part story, and part elaborate and inspiring visual effects and animations. The protagonist, Amanda, played by Marlee Matlin, finds herself in a fantastic Alice in Wonderland experience when her daily, uninspired life literally begins to unravel, revealing the uncertain world of the quantum field hidden behind what we consider to be our normal, waking reality.

Just FYI, the movie is propaganda for the goofy-ass Ramtha cult:

http://www.wweek.com/story.php?story=5860

What most viewers don't realize is that What the Bleep (which also screens as What the #$*! Do We Know?) is the work of a strange sect headquartered a couple of hours north of Portland in the prairie town of Yelm, Wash.

The sect is dedicated to Ramtha, a mighty warrior-spirit from Atlantis, who speaks in a hokey English accent through his channeler, a former cable-TV saleswoman named JZ Knight, who plays herself in What the Bleep.

On the surface, Ramtha's message sounds like a cross between New Age spirituality and Amway optimism. Everything happens for a reason. Take charge of your life. Don't be a victim.

But delve a little deeper, and you find some strange, even disturbing ideas. Ramtha says mirrors are portals to a parallel universe. Ramtha says children with Down syndrome have "chosen" their condition. Ramtha says you can read minds, alter your own DNA, reverse aging, teleport, travel through time, and prolong your life with Twinkies.

I have skimmed through their "study guide". Just having a study guide sounded a little strange, for a film. I have never heard of the Ramtha cult, so I don't know anything about them. I noticed in the study guide that they have quotations and examples of different well known theories, to authenticate what they are saying. There were a few other things on their website that I thought sounded suspicious.

It's a shame it's not "just a film", it could have been interesting.

Maybe a couple people's minds.

If I have learned anything in the last 35 years of my life, people's human minds or their Universes are not... universal.

No, no it's not. It's those people from the Ramtha cult trying to sucker more well meaning folk. Avoid it like the plague or if you do watch it make sure you take it for what it is. A lot of bunk intended to get people to part with their money by another bunch of charlatans. They should be shipped off to an island with Sylvia Browne, John Edwards and all those others vermin. Horrible!!

Take it on its merit and just watch. One doesn't have to be Baptized in something to accept some of the ideals they believe. Minus who produced it , it might still have merit.

I have seen this film and would recomend a viewing. Aside from who produced the movie, many interesting and valid points are raised imo. Use your critical thinking skills. Just viewing a movie does not mean you have to except or reject every aspect of it as a whole. This film presents scientific/mathematical and philosphical theories, both of which were interesting to me. It did drag on a bit there at the end though. :p

Sounds even weirder than Rael himself but at least it's fiction...It is fiction right? :curious:

NEVER trust a movie that's not rated... All of those that I've ever seen were either B rate movies or X rated movies that didn't want to be rated because it may cause people to turn off on them because of the rating.

I haven't seen this, but it sounds like boloney. it played at the local "art film" cinema and the reviews were disastrous.

If you guys want something interseting to watch, that sort of deals with the topic at hand, and has AMAZING CGI, then watch "Nova's Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene.

Heck, you don't even have to order it, you can stream it for free on the net.

- Hmmm... perhaps I shouldn't have ordered it. I'm no cult drone.
- Regardless, I'll watch it to see the effects and take the movie for what it's worth.
- I'll let you guys know what I think about it after I've checked it out.

Sadly, I've overheard people at video stores saying this same thing.

Why would you limit what you watch to only the material reviewed by some 3rd party like the MPAA? There are plenty of legitimate reason to not have a film rated. And how many stinkers has the MPAA endorsed? Tarkovsky's "Stalker", a classic piece of science fiction, is unrated. Kubrick's "Paths of Glory", a stunning war drama, is also unrated. Baby Geniuses 2 is rated PG by the MPAA and is #16 in the bottom 100 films on IMDB.

Ratings (or lack thereof) have nothing to do with quality.

I was gonna say.... the trailer seemed like a cross between a cheesey high school physics video and an infomercial

Ooo... a cult-made movie! :D
Last one I saw was the animated anime Hermes: Wings of Love, which was funded and produced by the Kofuku no Kagaku cult (aka, "The Institute for Research into Human Happiness").

I've seen it and while it's not a perfect film in presenting the concepts discussed, I think it has to be kept in mind that it was made for the general audience to introduce them to the concepts not a "new age only" audience that is already familiar with these ideas.

There are some entertaining parts for all and it definitely makes you think.

Also, there may be some on this board partially interested in the crystallized water photography and other effects in the film (those it is not a cgi film at all).

Well there is that brain/horomone party animated sequence bit. :D But overall, yeah, not a lot of CG involved. Do you know the name of that water crystal photography they showed? Do you remember the name of the artist? That was one of the most interesting parts for me.

- It makes it easier for me to organize my thoughts.
- It's easier for some people to read. :)
- Today's society is used to small bits of information and often loses interest in long paragraphs.
- I'm not the only one that does it. Look at other peoples posts.
